    Ep. 52 Dogville

    Ep. 52 Dogville

Join me today as I we go to the 1930s Rocky Mountains and the avant-garde world of Lars von Trier’s film, Dogville. With the magic of digital video, minimalist setting, and an unforgettable performance from Nicole Kidman and Paul Bettany, we promise you'll find yourself captivated by this remarkable cinematic experience.

Feel the pulse of Dogville as we dissect the life of a fugitive, Grace, who finds sanctuary in this small town. Immerse yourself in a narrative that blurs the lines between greed and acceptance. I highlight the standout performances and the unique visual style of this movie.

Whether you're a film enthusiast or a casual viewer, this deep dive into Dogville promises to be an engaging and rewarding journey.

#61 - Dancer in the Dark

#61 - Dancer in the Dark

Krys Marshall on 'Eternal Sunshine...' and Weird Women

When Krys Marshall (FOR ALL MANKIND's Danielle Poole) told us she felt seen by Clementine from ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, Annie from ANNIE HALL, and Selma from DANCER IN THE DARK, we couldn’t wait to get together and hear the full story. Krys and Jordan talk about how these free spirited (and sometimes misunderstood) women speak to Krys as an actor and as a person.

In one quick thing, Jordan’s seen THE NORTHMAN and can’t wait to tell you the phrase she left the theater chanting.

    Breaking the Waves (1996)

    Breaking the Waves (1996)

This is not a happy movie. Maybe there's an undercurrent of romance somewhere, but this movie is pretty wild. Jason Furie and Adam Roth review Lars Von Trier's 1996 film Breaking the Waves starring Emily Watson in her very first starring role alongside Stellan Skarsgård and Katrin Cartlidge. If you ever wanted to wallow in misery and/or see Stellan Skarsgård's dingus, this movie may be of interest to you. Full review and deep thoughts ensue.

    S01E16 - Breaking the Waves (1996)

Welcome to Season 1 of Snubs & Dubs! This season we are covering the 69th Academy Awards, featuring the films of 1996.

On Episode 16, we're talking about Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves. In a small and religious coastal town, a simple, devoutly religious Scottish woman, Bess McNeill (Emily Watson), finds a partner in an oil rig worker from Norway, Jan Nyman (Stellan Skarsgård). However, the relationship grows strained when Nyman breaks his neck in a horrific work accident on the rig and becomes paralyzed. Unable to perform sexually and suffering mentally from the accident as well, Jan convinces Bess to have sex with other men, which she comes to believe is God's work.

Please leave a five-star review and follow us on the social platforms below! We'd love to hear your feedback on the episodes, or thoughts on the movies themselves!

Dancer in the Dark by Lars von Trier with Kevin Ferguson

The “Cinephile Cuties” are ready to get devastated. That’s because they’re chatting about Lars von Trier’s ‘Dancer in the Dark.’ And to do so they are joined by a very special guest, the senior producer of NPR’s ‘Bullseye with Jesse Thorn,’ Kevin Ferguson. With his help, they dissect this very dreary movie. Plus, they put this film through their proprietary Fartsy Test. And Patrick recommends a drink pairing.
