    Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, and entered public service as a means to help her community feel more connected with local and state government. She’s served as County Auditor, County Commissioner, State Auditor, State Representative for House District 78, and now Lt. Governor. Her portfolio in this role includes overseeing the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Office of Defense Development, Office of Community and Rural Affairs and Office of Tourism Development, among myriad other responsibilities as chairwoman of several councils and tasks forces.     My guest on today’s show is best-selling author and retired Police Captain Frank Zafiro!

    During his law enforcement career, Zafiro worked as a patrol officer, corporal, and detective before entering leadership roles and becoming a sergeant in 2002. He was fortunate enough to command patrol officers, investigators, K-9 officers (and their dogs!), and the SWAT team. He also commanded both the patrol division and the investigative division of the police department at different points in his career. 

    Frank is an accomplished writer with over forty books published.

For over a decade, he has served as a member of the International Association of Fire Chief’s Safety, Health & Survival Section and is currently the Secretary of that section.     Rob Brown began his fire service career in 1992 with the Glenwood Fire Department in Long Island, NY. He currently serves as a Lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department and has been an active member since 1996.     Steve Prziborowski is the author of 101 Tips to Ace Your Promotional Exam. He is a 29-year fire service veteran currently serving as a deputy chief at the Santa Clara County Fire Department in California. He received the 2020 Ronny Jack Coleman Leadership Legacy Award from the Commission on Professional Credentialing/Center for Public Safety Excellence. He was also named the 2008 California Fire Instructor of the year, and has authored three other books on entry-level and promotional fire service preparation.

    He is the founder of Code3FireTraining.com and an international speaker who provides his Courage Under Fire Leadership sessions. Lastly, Chief P. is also an adjunct faculty member at the National Fire Academy.

He talks about the life threatening incident when he was shot by a rifle wielding barricade suspect. William discusses the incident, his struggle to survive and what it took to return to full duty on the Troy Michigan police department. After retiring from his full police career, in spite of his lifelong injuries he worked as a civilian employee at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and works as a volunteer at schools.     Fire Chief Christopher Bowcock started his career within the fire service in 1994 at the City of Burnaby Local 323 Department. He’s spent time as the spokesperson for the City of Barnaby, specializing in community risk and hazard, was the Union-Management Liaison for the development of Fire Departments, and is the past director of Burnaby Municipal Benefit Society. Currently, he is the lead member of the department’s COVID-19 Task Force and the designated leader for the Trans Mountain Expansion project

    Lieutenant Kevin Tomyk of Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, began his firefighting career in 2003. He is currently stationed at the Rehab and Decon unit department hall where he is an active safety committee member for both the department and the provincial association. Lieutenant Tomyk is also an elected officer for Local 18 Vancouver Firefighters, and a proud board member of the Honour Guard. 

    Paul Rushton has been a firefighter with the City of Burnaby Local 323 Department for the last 20 years. He’s currently the chairman of the Burnaby Fire Department OHS Committee, has held a variety of positions on the Burnaby Firefighters Local 323 Union Executive, is a member of the Central City Safety Committee, and has served as the director on the Burnaby Municipal Benefit Society representing Fire Local 323. Paul is a certified Fire Investigator for the Province of British Columbia and is most recently the Union Occupational Health and Safety representative for the City of Burnaby Local 323 COVID-19 Task Force.
