    Aaron Crowley: Ex-Porn Performer, Author, & Anti-porn Advocate

    Aaron Crowley was accidentally exposed to porn at the young age of nine when he walked in on his older brother and his friends looking at it together. From there, Aaron’s porn consumption escalated while it perpetuated false expectations about sex and normalized sexual objectification. While in college, Aaron experienced drug-facilitated sexual assault, and he was exploited and re-victimized when the perpetrator shared nonconsensual photos of the assault online. His abuse triggered trauma-induced hypersexuality and he says it paved the way for his eventual career as a porn performer. In this episode, host Garrett Jonsson and Aaron discuss how he entered and exited the porn industry, how it negatively impacted him, and what his life looks like today.

Sonja Lyubomirsky joins Igor and Charles to discuss the key components of happiness, lessons from 9-11, ‘happiness-intervention fit’, Mother Teresa’s dark side, and the unexpected psychological impact of the global pandemic to date. Igor reflects on life-under-lockdown vs life in the downfall of the Soviet Union, Sonja discusses the subtle art of balancing optimism with positive action, and Charles learns that when it comes to counting one’s blessings, it pays not to count too high. There can be times where stress reduces happiness, but actually improves well-being and life satisfaction. They explore some of the ways money and work impact stress. In general, there's probably too much stress among the population, but too little stress can sap the motivation to overcome challenges. The sweet spot of stress can lead to accomplishments that provide fulfillment, self-worth, and value to your life. Listen to the end where Aaron and Trishul share some personal stories on what they do to reduce, but not eliminate, stress with their own happiness and well-being in mind.
