    What makes the 2024 Big Ears Festival and Bonnaroo lineups special?

    While Bonnaroo and Big Ears Festival take place three months and 150 miles apart, both events were created by Knoxville native Ashley Capps. Plus, both festivals have become known for their diverse lineups and their unofficial status as music discovery festivals.

    Knox News journalists Ryan Wilusz and Brianna Paciorka, who have regularly attended both festivals over the years, dive into the respective lineups to share their top picks from both bills. Listen as they discuss why each of their most anticipated artists are must-sees and why anyone on the fence about purchasing tickets should plan to attend.

    Designing Braggable and Unique Benefits Programs with Emily Munroe, Global Head of Benefits & Wellness at Live Nation

    This episode features an interview with Emily Munroe, Global Head of Benefits and Wellness at Live Nation. Emily began her career in banking and finance before making a career change to HR. She began in HR serving growth-and-expansion stage biotech and pharmaceutical companies in Compensation and Benefits. She has also worked in global Benefits roles for a consulting firm, tech and retail, and now entertainment.

    In this episode, Sasha and Emily discuss must-have benefits, how to get buy-in from leaders, and creating braggable programs.

    -------

    “My tactic has been to start in the ERGs first. Get the voices that I think are impactful in the company, the ones that folks are listening to that aren't necessarily just leaders, but get them on board. Once I have them working with me to increase the awareness of really important impactful programs, I think it comes a little easier.” – Emily Munroe

    'Twas the Night Before Show Day

    'Twas the Night Before Show Day

    STORY EPISODE – Joyous holiday season Venuelanders! As we prepare for an exciting 2024 with some incredible guests and bonus episodes, please enjoy this special holiday treat. Here is our version of that classic, fire-side story which will hopefully warm your heart – ‘Twas the Night Before Show Day. 📖💗 We hope you’ll share this short story with coworkers and fellow live event friends, and that you have a peaceful, happy holiday season however you celebrate. See you in 2024!

    ––––––

    'Twas the night before show day, throughout back of house,
    Not a crew member stirred, not even a mouse;
    Road boxes were packed into semi trucks with care,
    In hopes that by load-in they would surely be there.

    The GM was nestled all snug in their bed,
    While visions of show profits danced in their head;
    Marketing, ticketing, security and more,
    Dreamed of patrons smoothly going through doors.

    This holiday show – an iconic one of a kind,
    Combined Mariah, TSO, Rockettes, and Mannheim;
    Promoters all wanted this last-second show,
    All venues were in awe, for that you must know.

    As staff arrived and prepared for the night,
    A snafu was discovered, the details weren’t right;
    Part time support staff never got the call,
    This last-minute booking may not happen at all.

    Word went out that this show needs support,
    If no help arrives, they'll have to abort;
    As the staff hung their heads, joined the fans and cried,
    A door opened with reinforcements from far and wide.

    They exclaimed, "It’s AEG! OVG! Live Nation and Legends!
    There's Kroenke, MSG, NS2 – good heavens!
    We need all your help, give it your touch.
    Let's make this show happen, thank you so much!"

    The crew all jumped in, staffing entries and parking,
    People unloaded trucks, got chalk and began marking;
    Ticketmaster, AXS, eTix, and more,
    All teamed up to get people through the door.

    With everyone in their seats and anticipation high,
    The lights went down with not a dry eye;
    The crowd began to roar, giving everyone a hand,
    Always a favorite moment for those in Venueland.

    Mannheim Steamroller was first on this bill,
    They brought out the classics and had no chill;
    Putting their heart into every last song,
    Synthesizers, drums, and even a gong!

    Next up was the Radio City Music Hall squad,
    Performing numbers as the crowd ooo-ed and awed;
    Their eyes – how they twinkled! Their show so razzling!
    Their legs kicking sky high, the Rockettes were dazzling!

    And with a blast of pyro Trans-Siberian Orchestra took the stage,
    Guitars shedding, lasers beaming, a show for every age;
    Holiday classics with rockstar flair,
    As musicians and singers swung through the air.

    Mariah closed it out, and sang loud and true,
    That all she wanted for Christmas, was you-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooooo!
    And just as she finished her final note,
    She invited staff and crew on stage and cleared her throat.

    “Normally these companies compete for nickels and dimes,
    But today, this special night, they put it all aside.
    They understood how important this holiday show was.
    And despite who landed it, it had to happen because,

    No matter who performs, what venue, or profit split,
    Making memories for fans is the reason we do it.”
    They joined the performers, and sang through the mic,
    HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!

    Will Swifties take down Ticketmaster?

    Will Swifties take down Ticketmaster?

    After Ticketmaster botched sales for Taylor Swift’s upcoming concert tour, her die-hard fans, known as Swifties, did more than just whine on social media. They took political action, calling their representatives in Congress and flagging their concerns to other lawmakers across the country. Some Swifties even filed a lawsuit.

    This is far from the first time Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation, have been accused of unfairly monopolizing the ticket market. And after another debacle last week that left Bad Bunny fans stranded outside his sold-out concert in Mexico City, it’s clear it won’t be the last time either.

    Today, we look at whether the latest backlash is big enough to finally break Ticketmaster’s stranglehold on the live music market.

    Host: Gustavo Arellano

    Guests: L.A. Times reporter August Brown and Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.

    Here's The Deal Podcast - The Max Baker Jr. Story - Episode 23

    We pick up in 1998 & discuss the Horde Festival coming to Oklahoma City as well as Vans Warped Tour with bands like NOFX, No Use For A Name, Fu Manchu, Ozomatli, Reverend Horton Heat, & more. This was during the very beginnings of Vans Warped Tour. During this time Max owned Choice Music & was selling concert tickets & music directly to the fans through the music store. Cannibal Corpse in 2022 just played the Diamond Ballroom, Max recalls a Cannibal Corpse show in 1998 at the Will Rogers Theater & talks about the protests & harrasment from religious organizations in protest of some of the acts Max was bringing to Oklahoma City. Before Myles Kennedy joined Slash as his vocalist, he was in a band called the Mayfield Four & we discuss a show with them opening for Big Wreck at the Boars Head in 1998. Shout out to Fritz from The Boars Head. Max & Jeff both agree, doing a show on Sunday after Thanksgiving is almost certain to fail. We discuss a Cherry Poppin Daddies show that wasnt very well attended the Sunday after Thanksgiving in 1998.

    Taylor Swift And The Tour That Pissed Everyone Off

    Taylor Swift And The Tour That Pissed Everyone Off

    On the show today...

    There’s been a lot of TV news overnight. Ellen Pompeo announced she’s leaving Grey's Anatomy after 19 seasons, and Neighbours is coming back?! Here's everything we know.

    And there are a lot of angry Taylor Swift fans right now, after the website selling tickets for her Eras Tour was completely overwhelmed by buyers. Fans are calling for Taylor to step in, but is it really on her to take responsibility for the site's faults?

    Plus, it's Weekend Watch time! And we have two shows to recommend that are at completely different ends of the streaming spectrum. One that's fun and a little risqué and another that's so wholesome it's almost guaranteed to cure your stresses.

    Bonnaroo: What's new for the music festival and the Farm in 2022?

    Bonnaroo: What's new for the music festival and the Farm in 2022?

    Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, the brainchild of Knoxville native Ashley Capps, helped pave the way for largescale music events in the United States since its first iteration in 2002.

    After last year's event was canceled – not because of COVID-19, but because of weather – roads on the Bonnaroo Farm in Manchester, Tennessee, have been paved, which could help prevent a muddy mess. And that's just the beginning.

    This episode is dedicated to some of those big changes. Whether you are a seasoned Bonnaroovian looking forward to what's new or a Bonna-rookie with no clue what to expect, we have you covered.

    168 | Complexities of Selling BevAlc Online | with Yoni Reisman and Jay Liddell

    In Yoni and Neal’s previous lives, they were music industry veterans behind some of the largest festivals in the country.

    Along the way, they saw the demand for quality cocktails growing, but the careful preparation required to make one made service in high volume environments pretty difficult.

    They fantasized about creating a world-class cocktail in an easy-to-serve vessel, thinking maybe they could help solve a problem for venues, events, restaurants, bars, airplanes, and regular folks at home on the couch.

    Eventually, they stopped fantasizing and started actually doing it.

    Enlisting the help of their favorite bartender and James Beard finalist, Miles Macquarrie of Kimball House, they, along with Jay, developed classic cocktail recipes and packaged them up to drink at any time and, just about, any place.

    Tip Top Proper Cocktails are always within reach, especially if a trusted bartender or fully-stocked bar are not.

    Astroworld and Crisis Comms; Aaron Rodgers Fumbles Media Interview; The Problem With Polling Data

    Following the initial recording of this episode of The Business Communicators, tragedy struck in Houston hours later on Friday, Nov. 5, as eight people died at Grammy-nominated artist Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in a mass casualty event. Austin and Thomas open the podcast by discussing what went wrong and how the crisis response was botched by event promoters.

    Then, the show breaks down Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers quarterback, handling of his first media interview following his COVID-19 diagnosis. Hint: It did not go well. Find out why Rodgers exclusive interview with The Pat McAfee Show backfired and what communications professionals and business leaders can learn from “friendly” conversations with the media.

    The podcast closes with election talk – and why polling data is becoming increasingly unreliable.
