I just made my final $239 payment for B-School and I could not be more relieved. Every month I have been dreading having to pay for the program that I haven’t accessed in months and that I have my regrets about signing up for. I tried the B-School experience because I wanted to learn some new marketing techniques and to see if I could improve my business processes. Since I have been online since early 2004, I have experienced a lot of changes in the online world. I was open to learning new strategies and applying some new procedures in my business. B-School is one of the most aggressively marketed online business programs and I was curious to see what it was all about. 

Although I thought the $2499 tuition price was very expensive, I thought that the marketing training alone would be helpful since Marie Forleo has access to some of the top internet marketers in the industry. 

I had read a lot of reviews about the program, all of them positive and glowing which made me somewhat suspicious. The old adage, ‘you can’t please everyone’ applies to all businesses and I wondered why I could not find a single negative B-School review. So I did a little digging and it seems that Marie and her team don’t like negative reviews. In fact, they have a clause in their terms and conditions, which you must agree to before signing up for B-School, which specifically prohibits you from posting critical reviews of the program. 

Really? Aside from violating the US  Constitutionally protected free speech, it also violates the Consumer Review Fairness Act which specifically empowers consumers to provide reviews of products they purchase, positive or negative, and also specifically prohibits sellers from limiting customers’ ability to review their products. 

So this B-School review is my lawful assessment of my B-School experience and is provided within the terms of the Consumer Review Fairness Act, as well as my expertise in the areas of business, economics, finance, technology, and law, which are all areas I have education, experience, and authority. Any attempt to intimidate, threaten, or harass me for this review will be responded to with civil and criminal prosecution.

Warning: I get fed up with the f-word in this episode and get pretty weepy. No, not that f-word. The word FRICTION.

Today I am sharing a few points of friction in my life causing me to use excuses for not doing what I would like to, one example of that is recording and publishing podcast episodes consistently this summer and even little things would show up as friction.  Tune in to hear the story I tell about it and why my word for this next season of my life is frictionless.

I believe that I need to take you along on this journey I'm going through in my life right now as I've been taken along on other people's journeys. And I'm cheering for my friends who are on the other side of the world, Nikki Green posted something this morning about her partner, Josh Cousins, and all of these extreme circumstances that they've walked through.  It is so incredible to be part of the journeys that people are taking.

And I think I take each step in this journey and as points of friction come up I oftentimes find myself learning and referencing some incredible books.

I love books.  I love them. Some people love fancy cars and shoes and trips and dogs. And I love books. I'm surrounded by books.

Every fiber of my being believes that books are the best way to change the way the world.

In episode 17 of the Her One Thing podcast, host Kristin Zeier first reviews her new approach to goal setting. The point of this is to demonstrate that goal setting, goal management and goal mastery is an art. There isn't a one size fits all approach. 

It's a good idea to continuously tweak your goal setting and management process. Despite what experts say is the best approach, you have to find what works best for your personality, your energy, your life and your time. 

What's important is that you find a method that you can stick to, that you find joy in, is effective and that moves the needle on what you are set out to accomplish. 

Next, Kristin moves into providing a dose of inspiration to remind you that you already have what it takes inside of you to create your dream life. So often, we tell ourselves BS stories and excuses of why we can't do it.

This isn't true. These are old limiting beliefs that are replaying throughout your mind. The truth is, you do have what it takes inside of you already. 

Not only do you have what it takes, but you have an abundance of resources at your fingertips to find the answers to things you do not know. There is free information everywhere. Or, as Kristin recommends, you can invest in yourself by purchasing books, courses, coaching or programs to further deepen your knowledge and skillset. 

We live in a time where the opportunities are more expansive than any other time in history. We truly have the ability to design our own lives on our own terms. This is incredible. You have what it takes - you know you do.

The question is, are you going to answer that calling of your soul?

Episode 10 of the Her One Thing podcast reveals the most common four blocks that people have when it comes to reaching their goals:

• Self-doubt
• Lack of focus
• Procrastination
• Fear

Host Kristin Zeier discovered these results when she polled 1,110 people in the Own Your Future Challenge Facebook group in May of 2021. 

To understand what is holding you back when dreaming bigger in your life, you first must become self-aware of what you're thinking and believing. Kristin recommends that you practice self-awareness exercises such as journaling and meditation. 

You want to get to a place where you become the observer of your own thoughts. Once you learn to observe your thoughts objectively, you can ask yourself why you believe that. It's then that you can start to reframe your beliefs around what is possible and thus, dream bigger. 

Kristin also discusses which piece of the puzzle is the most important when reaching a goal or dream: belief that it can be done. If there is too much self-doubt present, then the goal or dream will never come to fruition.

For many, working a 9-5 job or one with inflexible hours is just reality. Once something disrupts our flow, such as having children, we realize…hey, wait a minute. There are other, higher priority things I want to be doing with my time. 

This was the predicament of today's guest Salome Schillack, CEO/Founder of Shine and Succeed. Working as a pharmaceutical rep, Salome was tired of choosing between her income and her family. After attempting a coaching business, Salome dove into online course creation. (which by the way, she quit after her first course launch was not what she anticipated - more on that in this episode).  Salome now has a multiple six-figure Facebook ads agency, a membership, and online courses…all which serve the online course creator niche.

• Launched a course, A-Lister, during COVID-19
• From key learnings, pivoted to a membership
• Help students start earlier at a lower dollar value, so that over the course of a few months they get sustainable long term results

 The Action

• Create your ad account, setup your pixel, set up your custom audiences
• Run engagement ads consistently in the background, all the time
• Build engagement, then build email list, and then build your launches
• Create lead magnets that solve a problem that your ideal customer wants solved

The Mindset

• Grateful for lessons learned and to learn; know you have learned enough now to keep going
• The pros talk about the same thing for years, gaining mastery
• Daily routine: Meditation, journaling, exercise 
• Save social media and email for later - get to the meat of your day first thing

I first heard of Genia Stephen when she had landed a 5-figure contract with an organization that wanted to not only purchase her digital course, but roll it out across their org. When I dug further to see what she was up to, I learned that her business 'Good Things in Life' was completely centered on supporting parents with kids that have disabilities. Some of you may be aware, but this tugged on my heartstrings as my parents (after having 8 of us biologically) adopted 12 children from varying backgrounds and hardships.

Genia is a prime example of someone that had knowledge in a certain area, saw a hole that needed to be filled, and figured out a way to build a service that filled that need. Growing up, Genia was surrounded with leaders in the disability world as her mom became a powerful advocate alongside her younger sister's diagnosis. Cut to 14 years ago, Genia's own son was born with disabilities and medical complexities.
