The front yard family - breaking isolation and loneliness with Jason Knight

The front yard family - breaking isolation and loneliness with Jason Knight

It’s almost Christmas time, so what a perfect opportunity to talk about the importance of community and connection. In this episode I chat with Jason Knight, the branding specialist that created the brand for my businesses. However, we are not talking about branding. We are talking about a movement that Jason started in his neighbourhood to foster a spirit of connection and community. ‘The Front Yard Family’ has led to so many positive outcomes in Jason’s local community and the concept can so easily be picked up and applied to our business communities, that I thought it a great conversation to share.

If this episode has inspired you to combine the silos of your life into the one circle ‘the integrated life’ you can check out the special offer that Jason mentioned in this interview here:https://www.askjasonknight.com/onecircle

How to make your marketing documents more accessible

How to make your marketing documents more accessible

Did you know that in Australia, over 13 million people have one or more chronic (long-term) eye conditions? And that over 575,000 are blind or vision impaired in Australia alone.

    I certainly didn’t.

And I’m embarrassed to admit that until I met Kathryn Collins, a graphic designer that specialises in creating accessible documents (and the 2nd person in Australia to recently qualified as an Accessible Document Specialist with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible., I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible.

In this episode, Kathryn talks about what document accessibility is and how we can all start to make our communications more inclusive.

If you are interested in checking out the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines – you can see them here: https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/

Also, if you want to make your Word docs more accessible, if you are using a Mac, you will see a big button that says ‘Check Accessibility’ in the tool bar in when you are in the ‘Review’ tab.

Small business branding with Aynsley Campbell

Small business branding with Aynsley Campbell

It’s easy for small business owners to dismiss the idea of investing in brand development as it’s a hard one to directly measure the outcome of and it always seems like a hefty investment to make in isolation.

However, it’s honestly one of the most important investments that you can ever make in your business. A brand helps create attention in the short term and build trust and loyalty in the long term.

In this episode I speak with Aynsley Campbell, a branding specialist that has worked with many of my small business clients.

    Aynsley shares:

    • How there is way more to a brand than a simple logo or brochure deign
    • How you can harness the skills of a brand specialist to create unique and consistent images in Canva
    • How she creates more leads for her own business by asking her customers at the completion of each job to refer her to another person looking for help with their branding

What is a Certified Practising Marketer and why should you care?

What is a Certified Practising Marketer and why should you care?

It seems that these days, just about everybody is a marketer.

It’s a broad term and there seems to be a hell of a lot of people who are NOT a marketer, claiming to be one. #justsayin

No wonder it’s confusing for small business owners to know who to listen to, which advice they should follow and who does what in the world of marketing.

So, when it comes to marketing, how do you sort the wheat from the chaff?

Well, one of the ways you can tell a professional marketer is by looking for the Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM) certification.

The CPM designation is the only peak professional benchmark of its kind for Marketers in the Asia-Pacific Region and the title officially recognises both formal education and the successful application of a marketer's marketing knowledge and skills in practice.

Kristie Atkins, Managing Partner at Wink, and I both tied as Certified Practicing Marketer of the Year in 2021 at the Australian Marketing Institutes Awards for Marketing Excellence.

And in this episode, we get together to shoot the breeze about the marketing industry and what best practice really looks like when it comes to marketing.

The Great Resignation and what it means for the creator economy

The Great Resignation and what it means for the creator economy

The Great Resignation is happening all around us. Millions of people are voluntarily leaving their 9-5 jobs every month in search of greener pastures.

In fact, the latest figures show 4.5 million people voluntarily left their jobs in November 2021 alone. Health and tech have had especially high turnover rates, with a 3.6% and 4.5% increase in year-over-year resignations respectively.

So…what’s going on? Are people really dropping out of the economy completely, or are they just changing jobs?

The statistics alone don’t tell the full story. The truth is, the economy is shifting. Employees are free to find followings online—and with those followings, they can leverage new opportunities.

Jay Clouse has seen it first-hand. Clouse worked at Smart Passive Income where he lead its Community team. He saw people quitting their jobs and becoming creators…and decided to try it out himself.

After building a personal brand and following online, his side gig with Creative Elements eventually became too lucrative to ignore—he could either work two jobs (with the requisite time spent away from his family) or join the Great Resignation.

He says he was able to join the creator economy thanks to one important factor: his followers trusted him, which meant they were willing to support him.
