    The Crow review

    The Crow review

When someone makes a list of the best 90s movies, this week’s movie is usually on the list. I bring you my review of classic, The Crow. The Crow was Brandon Lee’s final film. He sadly was accidentally killed on the set of The Crow. He was famously precluded in death by his father Bruce Lee, who also died far too early in life. We still got a masterful performance by Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, who comes back from the dead to avenge his, and his fiancée’s, murder. He goes up against some slimy baddies led by the murderous and twisted Michael Wincott as Top Dollar. He gets help from a cop played by Ernie Hudson and his friend Sarah played by Rochelle Davis. The action, the drama, the tension is all accompanied by a edgy, hard-hitting lineup of tracks that enhance it all. Join me to do a deep dive on this dark classic. The Crow also stars David Patrick Kelly, Jon Polito, Bai Ling, Tony Todd, Sofia Shinas, Anna Thomson, Angel David, Laurence Mason, Michael Massee, Bill Raymond, Marco Rodriguez and Kim Sykes.

    Cabiria & Steamboat Bill, Jr.

    Cabiria & Steamboat Bill, Jr.
This episode, we decided to give voice to the voiceless by spotlighting two sizable monuments in the silent film canon: Cabiria and Steamboat Bill, Jr. First things first though...our Blue Plate Special broods over two moody genre flicks with 1994's The Crow and new release Infinity Pool. Upon inspecting cinema's earliest days, we discuss the strained theatrics of Cabiria, the slight hilarity of Steamboat Bill, Jr., and the clearly observable influence both movies had on not only their respective genres but on the development of cinema writ large. Alien Resurrection & Nope

    Alien Resurrection & Nope

In this week’s episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss 1997’s strangely pulpy final entry in the original Alien series, Alien Resurrection! Are fans of the series thrown off by the wildly different tone? Was this one of Hollywood's first attempts to make a “requel?” Also, Matt and Alex saw Nope but they don’t want to ruin it for Tim so they keep it cryptic, and Alex saw The Gray Man.

In addition to the movie discussions, Matt’s boss and uncle, the mysterious “shadow producer,” Robert Pentor, is so frustrated with Matt’s recent lack of focus that he actually shows up at the recording studio!

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @alexharriscomix. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIPT Movies crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter @AIPTmoviesPod.

    Bad Lieutenant

    Bad Lieutenant
Hop on into the squad car and bear witness to one of the most notorious cops in cinematic history with Bad Lieutenant, Abel Ferrara's controversial 1992 masterpiece. But before we scrutinize this grisly mugshot of a movie, this week's Blue Plate Special find us fielding 2022 thoughts on Steven Spielberg's 1979 disaster 1941 (with us so far?); glancing into the hall of mirrors psychological gauntlet Synecdoche, New York from none other than Charlie Kaufman; and find a lot to love in Nope, Jordan Peele's latest blockbuster chiller. The time finally arrives to merge onto this episode's degenerative off-ramp of a movie, forcing us to confront an outright daring Harvey Keitel performance while grappling with what sets Ferrara and his direction apart within the crime genre, not to mention a discussion of content that warranted the film its infamous NC-17 rating. It goes without saying this episode isn't for the faint of heart but perhaps you'll agree that the unlikely redemption makes the brutalist filmmaking all the more rewarding. Jordan Peele's Nope — Episode 99

    Jordan Peele's Nope — Episode 99

After signing a five-year development deal with Universal Pictures, Jordan Peele got to work on his next project following the massive success of both “Get Out” and “Us.”

Peele’s next film was announced in November 2020 with the writer and director saying he wanted to create something audiences would have “to come see” after penning the script at a time with incredible uncertainty surrounding the future of movie theaters.

Notoriously secretive about his projects, Peele didn’t reveal much of anything about his plans for the film other than saying that he was focusing on humanity’s addiction to spectacle while specifically naming films like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Signs” and “The Wizard of Oz” as influences on his writing.

The film also reunited Peele with Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya, who had received rave reviews for his performance in “Get out” along with a cast that also included Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.

The end result was a film centered around a family of Hollywood horse trainers who try to revive their struggling business by capturing the impossible on camera and then parlaying that into a sizable payday…

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to look up at the sky and make sure the security cameras are working as we review the 2022 horror film “Nope”…

YNFA 015: The Three Musketeers, or A Confederacy of Dumases

Fluff out your hair extensions and swash your buckles as we ride off with Disney’s 1993 schlocktacular The Three Musketeers. Which is more historically inaccurate, this movie or your average Renaissance Faire? Who buttered your biscuit more, Keifer Sutherland or Chris O’Donnell?  Is the only good thing to come out of this Tim Curry's cape twirling and another killer rock ballad by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting? And can the next remake please just star all the great Hollywood Chrises, aka The Three Chriskateers? We might get some answers if we weren’t equal parts disappointed and offended by the mediocrity of this whole production.
