During a recent address, the Prime Minister emphasized a rising buzzword - ""guarantee."" He asserted that all these political parties guarantee corruption, being synonymous with scams amounting to lakhs and crores. The recent Patna gathering serves as a visual representation of this, where individuals implicated in various scams were present, forming a collective guarantee of at least a Rs 20 lakh crore scam. The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the colossal scams attributed to the Congress party, surpassing lakhs of crores in value. These include the infamous 1.86 lakh crore coal scam, the 1.74 lakh crore 2G scam, the Rs 70,000 crore Commonwealth Games scam, and the Rs 10,000 crore MNREGA scam. This narrative underscores the BJP's challenge in reconciling its anti-corruption rhetoric with the apparent inclusion of individuals accused of major scams. The episode raises questions about the consistency and sincerity of the ruling party's stance on corruption in Indian politics.

In this editorial segment, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud's comments on the Chandigarh Mayor Polls. The Supreme Court expressed concern over the conduct of the Presiding Officer during the elections, stating that it was evident that the ballot papers were defaced. CJI Chandrachud strongly criticized the behavior, calling it a mockery and murder of democracy, and suggested that the individual responsible should face prosecution.

The Chief Justice, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, heard a petition filed by AAP Councillor Kuldeep Kumar, the defeated Mayor candidate, challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision not to stay the immediate election. The Supreme Court issued a notice on Kumar's petition and deferred the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation meeting scheduled for February 7.

The Court ordered the sequestration of the entire record of the Mayor election, directing it to be kept with the Punjab & Haryana High Court Registrar General. It also mandated the preservation of ballots and videography. The Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh was instructed to hand over the records to the HC Registrar General by 5 PM on the same day.

Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the petitioner, alleged that a BJP candidate, serving as the Presiding Officer, intentionally defaced eight ballot papers of Congress-AAP councillors, rendering their votes invalid. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta argued that the video presented a one-sided view and urged the Court to consider the entire records before making a comprehensive decision.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the High Court's approach, CJI Chandrachud criticized the failure to issue an appropriate interim order.

एनसीपी अध्यक्ष शरद पवार ने मंगलवार को बड़ा ऐलान किया है. पवार ने कहा कि वे एनसीपी का अध्यक्ष पद छोड़ देंगे. 82 साल के मराठा क्षत्रप शरद पवार ने ये ऐलान ऐसे वक्त पर किया है, जब पिछले दिनों ही एनसीपी में फूट की खबरें सामने आई थीं. खबरें थीं कि शरद पवार के भतीजे अजित पवार एनसीपी के कई विधायकों के साथ बीजेपी सरकार में शामिल हो सकते हैं. शरद पवार ने कहा, कई साल तक मुझे राजनीति में पार्टी को लीड करने का मौका मिला है. इस उम्र में आकर ये पद नहीं रखना चाहता. मुझे लगता है कि और किसी को आगे आना चाहिए. पार्टी के नेताओं को ये फैसला करना होगा कि अब पार्टी का अध्यक्ष कौन होगा? शरद पवार आखिरी बार 2022 में ही चार साल के लिए अध्यक्ष चुने गए थे. 

In a move that came as a surprise to many, veteran politician Sharad Pawar on Tuesday resigned as president of the Nationalist Congress Party, the political outfit he floated more than two decades ago. "I have decided to step down as the president of the NCP," Pawar said at a press briefing. His announcement was greeted by loud exclamations from the gathering.

अजित पवार ने बीजेपी में जाने की अटकलों के बीच कहा है कि, 'मैं पहले भी एनसीपी के साथ था और हमेशा रहूंगा।' वहीं इससे पहले चाचा शरद पवार ने भी अजित के बीजेपी में जाने की खबरों को बेबुनियाद बताया था। इसके साथ ही महाराष्ट्र एनसीपी चीफ जयंत पाटिल ने कहा था कि ऐसा केवल अजित पवार और उनके परिवार को टारगेट करने के लिए किया जा रहा है। महाराष्ट्र में विधायकों की सदस्यता को लेकर सुप्रीम फैसले से पहले ही जोड़तोड़ की राजनीति शुरू हो गई है। दरअसल शिंदे की बगावत के बाद उद्धव ठाकरे ने विधायकों की सदस्यता को लेकर सवाल खड़ा करते हुए इसको लेकर याचिका दायर की थी।
