She is also a Speech Language Pathologist and has spent over two decades working in the area of Traumatic Brain Injury. She is also certified  in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, EFT, and Breathwork. As the host of the Building Resilience Podcast and the creator of the Advanced Training for Nervous System Resilience, Leah focuses on helping people learn to befriend their nervous system, manage their mindset and cultivate resilience. She is passionate about teaching others how  to resolve and prevent burnout, stress, and compassion fatigue. Leah lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her husband Rob and they have a blended family with 5 children. She loves to learn, grow, hike, read, travel and spend time with friends and family.

    Negative Self-Talk: The Trials and Tribulations

    Negative self-talk is something that permeates many of us and can be pesky to deal with. In this episode I speak to my troubles with self-talk, worthiness, body dysmorphia and body image, as well as what I've done to mitigate the harmful effects. Negative self-talk can be a symptom of trauma, though not one that is unable to shift. I dive deeply into what has worked for me, telling stories of a few journeys where my self-talk didn't aid me and was more than false. Super-ego, Shamatha Meditation, Anorexia, Developmental Stages, and what it's like to be a Ph.D. student await you in this episode.     There’s negativity all around you; is it any wonder that you may suffer from “negative thoughts,” worry, and dread? What can you do?

     Much of the terrible things within our imagination never really happen; and yet, we waste valuable time with a negative outlook. There are steps to address to use in fighting off our temptations to worry and dread. Instead, we can deliberately find gratitude and praise to the Lord; we can decide to think on lovely things.

    Our past experiences, even the things we don't usually think about, are all alive and active in our daily life in the form of an inner voice - our self-talk.  Everyone has an inner voice...sometimes this inner voice lies to you and fills you up with negativity. What lies are you telling yourself on a daily basis? Could your inner voice be holding you back?  Are you allowing too much negativity in? Your inner voice is your harshest critic and the one that will lower your self-esteem the quickest.
