Colonialism and its Aftermath in La noire de... and Mandabi

A discussion of the function of colonialism as a political-psychological and economic presence in the postcolonial nation. With emphasis on how relationships to France wreak death and destruction in the postcolony, I explore how Ousmane Sembène tells a political story through intimate portraits of a young woman seeking adventure (La noire de...) and a family and community struggling with poverty, hunger, and the highest stages of economic precarity (Mandabi).

    38 | 2022 Qatar World Cup Part 1

Miguel welcomed back Chuy from The Heatwave Podcast to talk about the 2022 Qatar World Cup (Recorded 11.4.22), which began earlier this morning on November 20, 2022.

The Heatwave Podcast is a podcast centered around the political environment of the State of Arizona from a revolutionary socialist perspective, made by the people, for the people! You can listen to Chuy and his comrades on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast!

To start the podcast, Miguel and Chuy get into what they are looking forward to the most during the World Cup and what team they are most looking forward to watching (hint: El Tri). Additionally, Miguel and Chuy discuss the issues with Qatar as the host of the World Cup, such as the abuse Migrant Labors faced in building the stadiums for the World Cup.

Miguel and Chuy also discuss the entanglement between the FIFA World Cup (Mega Events), Capitalism-Imperialism and Neo-Colonialism, the collaboration of the West with Qatar hosting the World Cup, and the overt Orientalism in Western sports media coverage.

To end the podcast, they make some World Cup predictions, Which Group they think is the "Group of Death," and if anything unusual will happen.

The Story of Palestine, Part 3 (& The Zionist Tears Cocktail)

In this episode, Leeh tells the story of Palestine from the 50's to the present, completing our trilogy about the struggles of the indigenous Palestinians who have lived and died under brutal Israeli occupation. In addition to providing a clear overview of recent history, this episode highlights the role that capitalism has played in this ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Beginning by discussing apartheid, we explain Israel's systematic creation of a Palestinian underclass through deliberate displacement, ethnic cleansing, segregation, and economic colonialism. Leeh describes some of the worst massacres inflicted upon the Palestinian people during the past 70 years. She outlines the many failed efforts to establish peace, including the Oslo Accords. She even describes Palestinian uprisings against Israeli oppression during the first and second intifadas

Together, Leeh and Erika explain America’s motivations for providing over $3.8 billion in military aid to Israel every single year, highlighting the Six Day War.

    You’ll also learn about:

    • The Quibya Massacre (1953)
    • The Kafr Qasim Massacre (1956)
    • Israel’s shift towards neoliberal capitalism
    • The First & Second Intifada
    • The Cave of Patriarchs Massacre (1994)
    • Camp David Summit
    • This 2021 Gaza Massacre
    • Israel’s bombing of the Associated Press and Al Jazeera building
    • Israel’s designation of 6 human rights organizations as terrorist groups
    • De-development

AFRICOM, #Striketober and Line 3 Pipeline Protests

AFRICOM, #Striketober and Line 3 Pipeline Protests

What's up to my wild-hearted wildebeests and capering cape buffalos!

Welcome back to the BNP everyone! Thank you for joining. Shout out to my patrons- I love you! Strap in folks, there's a lot on the docket for this one.

This week is a solo mission, and I tackle 3 topics that are both timely and critical for empire babies and concerned global citizens to understand. They are also all being ignored in the corporate media, unsurprisingly.

Firstly, we cover #Striketober, a month of rolling worker strikes across the U.S. There are currently 18 active strikes, including at massive corporations like Kellogg's and John Deere. Solidarity to all striking workers!! Boycott Kellogg's products until the workers get what they deserve.

Secondly, we cover the ongoing Indigenous led protests against the Enbridge Line 3 Tar Sand Pipeline in N. Minnesota.  This pipeline is brazenly breaking tribal treaties and polluting our precious land and water. Indigenous activists and allies occupied the Bureau of Indian Affairs building in D.C. for the first time since 1972. Over 150 people have been arrested and elders have been getting beaten and tazed by the state.

Finally, we unpack AFRICOM, or U.S. African Command. AFRICOM represents a troublingly large and growing footprint of the U.S. military, intelligence agencies and special forces across the African continent. AFRICOM grew massively under the Obama administration, and has accelerated since the brutal overthrow of Libya, because the Libyan leadership was a major force in resisting AFRICOM. Now, it's spread out all across the continent, and the U.S. is executing 4,000+ mostly secret missions a year. We never hear about this, because the corporate media is white supremacist. This episode is my offering to help raise awareness about AFRICOM, so we can build a movement at home to end it. U.S. Out Of Africa!

Thank you for rating, reviewing and subscribing to the BNP wherever you listen to podcasts, and for spreading the word and telling a friend about the BNP. It's how we expand our tribe of philosopher-barbarians and un-fuck the world together!

From The Silk Road to a Globalized World: An Introduction To Trade

From The Silk Road to a Globalized World: An Introduction To Trade

Trade is innately human. Whether it’s baseball cards, lunchbox items or recipes, people have been exchanging goods, services, practices, and ideas since prehistoric times. Driven by curiosity and power, or most commonly money, trade has created the modern, globalized world we know today. To better understand the past, present, and future of trade’s huge web of interconnectivity, we’re traveling back in time with Meat and Three’s first ever 4-part mini-series.

We first look at history's most significant trade route: The Silk Road. We explore how the expansive caravan and maritime routes marked the first period of vast global interchange with Najmieh Batmanglij. We then dig into economics with Don Boudreaux to explain the implications of free trade and some central characteristics of our current globalized model.

And don’t forget to stick around for the next three episodes as we take a deeper dive into the ingredients that make these routes so delicious. Subscribe to Meat and Three on your favorite podcast app.

Do The Kids Know? is a series of conversations between friends, Prakash and Kristen, where we challenge our understanding of contemporary media, popular culture, and what it means to live as racialized millennials in KKKanada (That’s Canada spelled with three K’s)

Our goal for this series is to have frank discussions about the stories and nuances missed by sensationalist media as well as to uncover the ways in which white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism is shaping our movements and behaviours.

Keep tuning in to be a part of the conversation… don’t be a kid who doesn’t know!

Restorative Justice In The Face Of Injustice - Ep: 22

Restorative Justice In The Face Of Injustice - Ep: 22

In today's episode, we discuss the book "Target Africa" which explores neocolonialism and the ongoing oppression it is causing in developing countries. We also discuss justice from the biblical perspective and how God's desire is for His people to be part of the solution bringing "Restorative Justice" to the hurts in the world. We hope this will be the start of many conversations about these issues.

Episode 6: Mowgli, or 12 Rules for Life (In the Jungle)

This week, a deep dive into the nightmare that is the Angry Serkis adaptation of colonial literature, but this time with NEO-colonialism!

Kino Lefter is a movie review podcast where we (allegedly) watch whatever movie is hot this week and break it down from a pointedly left perspective, looking at what it says about our culture, and a society, which is something we live in.
