Review | Netflix Series BLUE EYE SAMURAI (Spoiler-Free)

This is our spoiler-free review for the Netflix Series Blue Eye Samurai. We absolutely adored this incredible animated adult series that showcases complex multidimensional characters, a painterly art style, fresh and bloody fight choreography, a wicked soundtrack, and a stellar cast, all wrapped up in a 17th-Century Edo Japanese revenge tale.

All eight episodes of Blue Eye Samurai will be streaming exclusively on Netflix November 3rd, 2023.

    Ep 52: K-Review: XO, Kitty

TENGRIDOME, Episode 25: Hot Springs Episode
Our hero has finally recovered from his epic birthday party hangover and is back in action! Sort of. Squid Game

    Squid Game

Squid Game is the most watched Netflix Original Series to date. Jason Furie and Adam Roth had to climb aboard the hype-train and witness what all the fuss was about. Believe the hype, Squid Game is here and it's pretty awesome. Sure there's some obvious inspiration pulled from Battle Royale, but that's ok because this is much better than The Hunger Games. Sorry Katniss. We review all 9 episodes of this highly entertaining pop-culture phenomenon.

    Netflix's "Maid" Review

    Netflix's "Maid" Review

I decided to check out the new limited series on Netflix “Maid.” I typically would just breeze right past shows like this because it looked like it would be a “slow” show where it took a long time to get to the point.

I wrote everything I could to share my thoughts and feelings about the accurate depiction of a single mother, the caregiver role, the human service worker role, domestic violence victim role and the once a recipient of government assistance role.

    Key takeaways in this episode;

    • What domestic violence is.
    • The cycle of government assistance.
    • What motherhood is really like and the sacrifices we make.
    • Signs of abuse.
    • The characters and their role in "Maid"

Overall this was the most relatable show I have seen. Maybe not in every area, but a lot of Alex’s story reminds me of myself and people I have helped and know personally.

What I want you to take away from this episode is that there is help if you are or know someone who is a victim of domestic violence, someone who needs mental health help, someone who needs medical, food, financial, housing, employment and legal assistance.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence states; “1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.”  https://ncadv.org/

    I Care a Lot

    I Care a Lot

In the season 1 finale, host Annabel McConnachie takes on the first half of critically acclaimed black comedy thriller 'I Care a Lot', starring Golden Globe winner Rosamund Pike. Centring around scammer Marla Grayson whose game is falsely taking guardianship over wealthy elders and absolutely  bleeding them dry, drama ensues when her most recent target just so happens to be the mother of a crime lord. Is this chaotic storm of fraud, organised crime and unapologetic feminism a match made in problematic heaven? Stream the review now to find out.

    The Queen's Gambit

    The Queen's Gambit

Opinionated millennial Annabel and this week's special guest reviewer - her father (Alastair McConnachie) - take on the pilot of the new Netflix original coming-of-age period drama 'The Queen's Gambit'. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and a copious amount of hallucinogenic drugs,  the series centres around up and coming orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon competing in competitive tournaments against the aggressively sexist backdrop of 1960's caucasian privilege. Are hardcore drugs and second-wave feminist antics enough to win over this multigenerational judgemental duo? Listen now to find out.
