    53. The importance of creativity in sport

    53. The importance of creativity in sport

Creative athletes have always captured the imagination of the sports fan. We each have our own ideas about what creativity means us in the sporting context, whether it is dancing with grace and flow, a new skateboarding trick or that almost inconceivable incisive pass to break open a defensive line.

Globally in many sports there is a growing recognition of the importance of creativity to understanding and developing sporting performance. But is there actually consensus on how creativity is objectively defined? How exactly does it lead to performance improvements? And what are some of the tools and processes that coaches can leverage, to best develop this quality in athletes?

On this episode, host Sam Robertson is joined by Carlota Torrents from INEFC and the University of Lleida.  Carlota is one of the leading global experts on the application of creativity to sports performance

A Muslim, A Humanist, and a Christian Sit Under a Tree - Can They Agree?

A Muslim, A Humanist, and a Christian Sit Under a Tree - Can They Agree?

Keith Giles, a self-proclaimed "heretic" and former Evangelical; Dr. Safi Kaskas, a devout Muslim; Gregory T. Smith, an ex-Southern Baptist Pastor whose journey led him to explore Neopaganism and Taoism; Matthew DiStefano, a book publisher dwelling in the realm that lies between Christianity and secular humanism; and Caleb, a practicing Bahá'í.
What common threads of belief connect these diverse individuals? And how do they navigate disagreements while fostering an attitude of openness towards people with differing perspectives and beliefs? Together, they engage in a candid examination and confrontation of the beliefs that have historically served as barriers to coexistence, thereby promoting a deeper understanding of the human experience among those who hail from and identify with different religious and cultural groups.

    Unexpected attraction

    Unexpected attraction
Join us today in the Matchmaker Matchmaker podcast! Aleeza and Rabbi discuss what to do when you're attracted to someone who's not your type. They talk about the importance of being open-minded and giving someone a chance, even if they don't fit your preconceived notions of what you're looking for in a partner. They also share some tips for dating someone who's not your type, such as taking things slow and being honest with yourself about your feelings. Key Points: Don't rule someone out just because they're not your "type." Be open-minded and give someone a chance. Take things slow and get to know the person. Be honest with yourself about your feelings. Don't be afraid to walk away if it's not a good fit. Hillsong Should (NOT) Pay Tax | Can We Change Your Mind?

Hillsong Should (NOT) Pay Tax | Can We Change Your Mind?

Konrad goes toe to toe with an ex-Christian Atheist named Will, who creates content critiquing the Christian worldview. Alice tries to convert a Christian lobbyist named Chris from the Australian Christian Lobby.

    We discuss:
    Arguments FOR churches paying taxes:

    • Separation of religious organizations from other non-profits.
    • Churches should be held accountable and have a more complicated tax system.
    • Financial transparency is necessary to ensure money is spent appropriately.
    • False counseling services and lack of regulation are concerning.
    • Churches should be taxed like businesses to ensure accountability.

    Arguments AGAINST churches paying taxes:

    • Complexity of church structures makes it impractical to tax them.
    • Keeping churches tax-exempt helps to keep them out of politics.
    • Churches provide valuable services like non-government healthcare and counseling.
    • Mega churches should be held accountable, but not all churches are the same.
    • The right to engage in politics is justified if supported by people who pay taxes.

    PLUS super ep content!
Konrad and Alice drop their filters and share their honest thoughts about being triggered by Chris from the ACL.

A Family Divided by Beliefs - The Immortal Soul

A Family Divided by Beliefs - The Immortal Soul

Konrad has just 10 minutes to convince Alice's sister that humans do not possess an immortal soul.

    We discuss;

    • The enigmatic nature of the soul: What we don't know about the "soul."
    • Examining the theory of an immortal soul and its historical significance.
    • The moral implications: How not believing in a soul can make you a better person.
    • Unveiling the adverse effects of belief in an immortal soul on humanity.
    • Souls and the Caste system in India: Exploring the intersection of beliefs.
    • Consciousness: Understanding the relationship between the soul and consciousness.
    • Contemplating the existence of souls in animals.

Will this 10-minute conversation bridge the gap between their opposing views, or will their disagreement deepen?

If You Want To Learn, Be Humble

If You Want To Learn, Be Humble

Welcome back to Navigate the Day! Today's episode is all about being humble when it comes to learning. Our journal prompt asks, "Can I stop thinking I already know and learn something here?" It's a powerful question that encourages us to let go of our preconceived notions and beliefs, and instead approach learning with an open mind and a willingness to accept new ideas.

Epictetus, the philosopher whose quote we began with, argues that if we think we already know everything, there's no room for growth. We must abandon any prideful or self-assured opinions we hold to create space for new knowledge and understanding to emerge.

In our journal prompt, we see the power of this mindset in action. The author acknowledges their tendency to assume they know the outcome before making a decision, and how this way of thinking can be limiting. They challenge themselves to identify areas in their life where they can learn something new rather than assuming their knowledge is complete.

It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking we already know everything, especially when we've been living a certain way for a long time. But as our journal prompt reminds us, the only person who can change the way we act is ourselves. We must prioritize ourselves and our growth, even if it means facing challenges and fears.

So let's embrace a humble mindset when it comes to learning. Let's be open to new ideas and willing to challenge our existing beliefs. As we do, we'll discover new opportunities for growth and become better equipped to navigate the day ahead. Thanks for tuning in to Navigate the Day, and we'll see you next time!

Thank you for listening and joining me on my journey of self-discovery!
