    S06E05: Far From Heaven

    S06E05: Far From Heaven
Welcome to MASTADQ: Mark And Sarah Talk About Dennis Quaid! Mark Blankenship slid into the guest chair (not a euphemism) to discuss Far From Heaven, the line between melodrama and tragedy, and how Todd Haynes's 2002 homage to Douglas Sirk and "women's pictures" lets the paintings that are Cathy and Frank Whitaker become real. Sarah revisits a ten-year-old review that wasn't fair to Quaid's performance; Jeb files his ratings from his score-poisoning sickbed (and unearths another DQ-blocking runner); and we all wonder how to rate a performance that won awards, but isn't very Quaidy. Take a break from sourcing the Whitakers' living-room furniture and listen to an all-new Quaid In Full. S04E02 - Ron and Tammys

    S04E02 - Ron and Tammys

This week Mark and Allen break down the Episode where we finally meet Ron's mother! When Leslie discovers Ron is busy preparing for a tax audit served to him by Tammy 1, she rounds up April and Andy to help sort through Ron's assortment of receipt odds-and-ends. Horrified at Ron's recordkeeping, Tammy 1 demands access to every part of his life for the audit. Over the next week, Tammy 1 moves back in with Ron and assumes complete control over him. Ron shaves off his moustache, becomes kind, refuses to do anything without Tammy 1's approval ... basically becoming a neutered wimp. Meanwhile, Tom asks Ben to look over the Entertainment 720 finances, at which point Ben discovers Tom and Jean-Ralphio are wasting huge amounts of money on a state-of-the-art office, high salaries with full benefits, paying NBA players to play basketball all day ... all despite having no income. Ben becomes alarmed, and is determined to make sure they understand the situation they're in. Finally, Ann wants to update the Health Department's Public Service Announcement for diabetes. When Ann asks Chris if he would like to help her make a new PSA, he excitedly agrees, and drops everything to help. Unfortunately, Chris is overly-enthusiastic, his OCD turning something Ann hopes will take 1-2 hours into something that lasts over a week ... Ann is so bored and miserable, she wonders why she even dated him in the first place. As always, we tackle the tough questions, such as ... Can Tom and Jean-Ralphio turn things around by printing their own money? Does Chris have the same wardrobe as the Spice Girls? What is Swanson Family Mash Liquor? Why DID Ann ever date Chris in the first place? What exactly is "the party switch"? What do you do if Godzilla attacks the city? Loyal podcast viewers, this episode is truly one of a kind. Come enjoy it in all its Tammy-colored glory! Many thanks to our wonderful sponsor, 'Tam-Away'.

High Art, or Syd Gets Her Pipes Fixed

High Art, or Syd Gets Her Pipes Fixed

High Art is a fabulous yet ultimately tragic story of two star-crossed lovers. Syd (Radha Mitchell), a struggling/aspiring editor at a high end photography magazine, meets Lucy (Ally Sheedy) almost by accident. Lucy, as it turns out, is a has-been yet still talented photographer who Syd quickly sees as her way to the top. However, both women are in relationships: Lucy with fading German actress Greta (Patricia Clarkson), Syd with milquetoast James (Gabriel Mann).  Lucy and Syd fall in love and push each others' careers, only to meet a tragic end.

We talk about so many things in this episode, from poststructuralism to relationships to queer death in film & so much more!

    S05E08: Playing By Heart

    S05E08: Playing By Heart
Short Cuts waterboarded with sno-cone syrup...Love Actually from factory-irregular parts...a catastrophically premature Magnolia...it's Playing By Heart, which is 40 minutes too long, coy about a meaningless end reveal, and contains very few believable situations or lines of dialogue. How desperate is Angelina Jolie to get a reaction from her wooden scene partner? Why is James Bond obliged to deliver Intercourse PA jokes that are beneath even SDB? Why in god's name didn't Quaid and Anthony Edwards swap roles? And will your co-hosts ever agree on whether Serious Ack-tor DQ has to poo...or can't poo? We're aligned on the poo levels of the film, at least; it's an all-new Quaid In Full. Sharp Objects - Serie

    Sharp Objects - Serie

Episode 118: The Big "Easy A"

Episode 118: The Big "Easy A"

This week we drink through "Easy A" starring Emma Stone and Penn Badgley. Emma is a great with the banter and keeps the comedy going and Penn doesn't murder anybody. There are like 30 other actors you've seen before mixed in there too. Two of them are Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson and they should get their own spin off based on their characters in this movie. We pair it with Smooth Operator Red Blend by Evans & Tate. It was very nice. Movie Sync Notes: We start the movie 3:30 into the pod and push play on part two at 53:50.

AFF: Shutter Island 2010 (dir. Martin Scorsese) Rated 15

AFF: Shutter Island 2010 (dir. Martin Scorsese) Rated 15
This American neo-noir, psychological thriller, tells the story of Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, who are sent to an asylum on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a patient committed for murdering her two children. It is based on the 2003 novel by American writer Dennis Lehane. Lehane sought to write a novel where the main characters are in a difficult position and lacking 20th-century resources such as radio communications, to aid them in their journey. He described the novel as a hybrid of the works of the Brontë sisters and the 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers and hoped that it would be an homage to Gothic settings, B movies, and pulp.
