Relationships 101 - Pt 2 The Avoidant Attachment Pattern

Relationships 101 - Pt 2 The Avoidant Attachment Pattern

The more we become aware of the role our early life experiences played in shaping us relationally, the more equipped we are to shift some of those patterns and behaviors that are creating challenges for us in our relationships. Avoidant attachment is an insecure attachment style that develops when a child's needs are ignored, dismissed and/or emotional expression is discouraged or even punished. In turn, they learn to depend on themselves and remain emotionally distant from others as a protective mechanism and a learned behavior.

The good news is that this attachment style is not a life-sentence. Through self-awareness, and practicing a few strategies that we talk about in this episode, anyone who with this relational pattern can begin to draw closer to others and feel more confident about their own emotional expression. Tune in to hear more!

Relationships 101 - Pt 1 The Anxious Attachment Pattern

Our earliest life experiences imprinted us with much of our relational wiring.  Anxious attachment is an insecure attachment style that develops when a child's needs are not met consistently and in turn, they may feel unworthy of love; and as they enter into adult relationships, they may exhibit high levels of insecurity and emotional neediness. The good news is that if this describes you, you can understand the "whys" behind this attachment pattern and some basic strategies for shifting these behaviors into more regulated actions that will lead to healthier interactions. Interested?  Great! Then listen in to this episode.

    Jesus Christ Our Beloved Redeemer

    Jesus Christ Our Beloved Redeemer

What would our lives be like without Jesus Christ? Have you ever pondered this question?

    Russell Nelson taught,

The more you learn about the Savior, the easier it will be to trust in His mercy, His infinite love, and His strengthening, healing, and redeeming power. Your growing faith in Him will move mountains—not the mountains of rock that beautify the earth but the mountains of misery in your lives. Your flourishing faith will help you turn challenges into unparalleled growth and opportunity.”

Our guest, Jacob Cochran, will help us understand our need for a Savior so that it will be easier to trust Him and grow the faith we desperately need to move the mountains of difficulty in our lives.

    Gratitude is in Season

Gratitude is not just a spiritually rewarding practice, but it also has tremendous mental health benefits as well. Tis the season...so often we move too quickly from Halloween to Christmas. Gratitude really is in season, not just during Thanksgiving but all year long as a mental health practice, but most of all, as an offering to God who deserves all of our thanks and praise.

    Give Thanks In all Circumstances

    Give Thanks In all Circumstances

Is it really possible to give thanks in all our circumstances? What about the times when everything seems to be going wrong in our lives?

    Dieter Uchtdorf explained that,

“Being grateful in times of distress does not mean we are pleased with our circumstances. It does mean that through the eyes of faith we look beyond our present-day challenges.”

“True gratitude is an expression of hope and testimony. It comes from acknowledging that we do not always understand the trials of life but trusting that one day we will.”

Our guest today, Lori Marett, will share her experience of losing her husband to a terminal illness and how gratitude helped her feel God’s love and peace in the midst of her afflictions.

    Understanding ACEs & Unresolved Trauma

    Understanding ACEs & Unresolved Trauma

This episode gives us a glimpse  some major risk factors that contribute to trauma. The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study is an amazing resource for digging deeper into why the trauma we are carrying in our present still affects us even though it happened in our distant pasts. Many of the experiences that still wreak mental and emotional havoc in our lives happened in our earliest life experiences. When we understand more about what affects us and why, we are more equipped to press into our healing and learn to live our best lives despite the worst of circumstances that affected us early on.  This episode is a great educational tool for moving toward stronger mental health. Happy listening!
