EPISODE 20: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN 8.26.22

FOX GUEST SAYS TRUMP MAY HAVE TAKEN NUCLEAR RETALIATION PLANS

A BLOCK: (1:50) We know Trump took nuclear weapons documents, information "among the most sensitive secrets we hold," documents marked "Special Access Programs" (2:19) What if it's even worse? What if it's worse than the worst we could imagine? (3:37) What if every crazy rumor about nuclear codes and invoking of The Rosenbergs is not only apt, but an understatement? (4:23) Biography of former Washington Post and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Ronald Kessler (5:12) Kessler, a past Trump apologist, appears on Fox News Channel Thursday night (6:30) Kessler says what Trump took "could very well include the plans for counterstriking against Russia in the event of a nuclear attack" (8:50) Or, "penetrations by the CIA of foreign embassies, of foreign leaders like Putin, as well as recruitments of spies overseas." And that the Russians would've been trying to get a spy into Mar-a-Lago, and may have succeeded (11:00) Reinhart poised to release search warrant affidavit with all redactions the government requested (12:08) CNN reports Trump has been getting legal advice from non-lawyer Tom Fitton (12:56) Fox Business reports his web host may sue Trump for non-payment for Truth Social (13:40) We should assume that what's in Trump's Pandora's Box could be worse than we can possibly imagine.

B BLOCK: (17:30) Every Dog Has Its Day: Duo-Duo has been saved! And I'm plugging the Schwarzman Animal Center's "AMC To The Rescue" fund to treat shelter and pound pets who need medical help (18:59) Postscripts To The News: White House burns Republicans complaining about Student Loan Forgiveness program who themselves got PPP Loan Forgiveness - like Marjorie Trailer Park Greene (21:27) Who says she was swatted - again (22:01) Bill Barr turns on Trump (22:48) Couple confesses to stealing President's daughter's diary for Project Veritas (23:14) Tim Scott thinks "fruitful" and "fruit-filled" are the same word (25:04) Sports: Bryce Harper returns to the Phillies and that might be BAD news (25:40) Bengals-Rams scrimmage fight recalls Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel from The Simpsons (26:19) Anniversary of the ESPN2 show - and song, and the back story of how we launched it to mess with Fox (32:00) Jared Kushner, Doug Mastriano, and Ron DeSantis compete for Worst Persons dishonors.

C BLOCK: (37:13) Time for James Thurber and a short story that invokes Red Barber and Vin Scully (37:50) And might've become a film directed by Burt Lancaster (38:00) Regardless, it's one of his best: The Catbird Seat.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) with Vincent Casaregola, Ph.D.

Emma is joined this week by Dr. Vincent Casaregola of Saint Louis University to cover a film that is considered one of the best of all time: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)! An iconic Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove takes a dark, comedic look at nuclear tensions and end-of-the-world antics.  Dr. Casaregola helps frame what the mindset was of the American people during the Cold War, the (very real) problems of nuclear mishaps, how Stanley Kubrick became one of the most innovative directors in the motion picture industry, what the best tips are for learning to appreciate classic movies.  Be sure to tune into this explosive episode!

    The Muppet Show

    The Muppet Show
It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to convince Tony of The Muppet Show's greatness on WDWM tonight! With the news that Disney+ had added The Muppet Show to its catalog, Tony admitted to a deep, dark secret: he doesn't really get the Muppets. Life long Muppet fan, Matt, jumps in to save the day and guide Tony through all of the ins and outs of the weird world of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and company. They talk about the pressure and expectations of being a first time viewer of a beloved show, the non-controversy surrounding the disclaimer attached to a handful of episodes, the show's terrific balance of allowing the guests to be themselves while still maintaining a space for plenty of Muppet hijinks, and its influences that range from vaudeville to old Hollywood musicals and yet still rooted in character based humor.

RETRO REWIND! ‘Dr. Strangelove’ with Director Barry Sonnenfeld

WARNING: This episode has some very spotty audio. Due to the Coronavirus we are now recording remotely in the safety of our own homes. But, alas, our remote recording service failed us. We apologize for this, but the contents of this episode are so spectacular that I’m sure you will enjoy it regardless!

We are joined by the wonderful director Barry Sonnenfeld (The Addams Family, Men in Black, Get Shorty) to discuss the pivotal film, Dr. Strangelove. Barry elaborates on how this movie has influenced his entire career. He reveals that the only way to make a comedy is to make sure no one working on the film knows it’s a comedy. And he also talks about the process of writing his new book, Barry Sonnenfeld, Call Your Mother: Memoirs of a Neurotic Filmmaker.

Episode 36: The Pink Panther strikes again (1976)

Episode 36: The Pink Panther strikes again (1976)

"Francois! Start the car!", pludselig har inspektør Clouseau brug for at komme langt væk fra den gale Dreyfus.

The Pink Panther strikes again (1976) instrueret af Blake Edwards.

TMR 158 : Being There (with James Corbett & Julian Charles)
As a way of "checking in" with listeners before TMR "returns to the [digital] airwaves" properly next week—following my "paternity leave" away from the show—I take the opportunity to share a recent conversation I had with James Corbett. James kindly invited me onto The Corbett Report to discuss the great film Being There as part of his ongoing podcast series, Film, Literature and the New World Order. "Julian Charles of TheMindRenewed.com joins us to discuss Being There, the 1979 film by director Hal Ashby that follows the story of Chance the Gardener, a simple man with no experience of the outside world who is suddenly thrust onto the national political stage. Despite his complete lack of knowledge and experience (or precisely because of it) the powers behind the scenes float him as a potential candidate for next president of the United States. So is this a reflection of political reality, or broad satire? What does the movie tell us about the way modern media shapes the political landscape? Find out in this edition of Film, Literature and the New World Order."—James Corbett (For show notes please visit http://themindrenewed.com)

Alexander Mirecki (All Together Now) & Morgan Krantz (Babysitter) talk about making indie features and creating a webseries, Neurotica, currently in its second season

    We talk about:

    • The fundamentals of making a webseries
    • The importance of episode length
    • Deriving stories from real life
    • Translating ninety seconds into half an hour
    • Shifting storytelling from season to season

    Quotes from the show:

"We're building out a world where we want threads, but they can't be relationships. It's about lonliness, ultimately, the show."

"We like to say (Neurotica) is like Seinfeld on acid."

"Right now, you're getting a sense that the character is on the verge of psychotic, but not there, he's definitely still in the realm of neurotic."

"We want (our main character) to be Mr. Bean for millenials."
