Not Every Podcaster is a Podcast Coach

Not Every Podcaster is a Podcast Coach

This is a hot take episode because I feel like it needs to be said: Not everyone with a podcast is a podcast coach.

No, I am not gatekeeping! I know many exceptional podcast coaches and strategists who are ultra-qualified. But for each of them, I have heard literally dozens of horror stories about expensive coaches that overpromised and underdelivered, leaving podcasters’ dreams shattered.

Today, I am sharing more about who not to hire - and some important questions to ask when you are in the market for a great podcast strategist!

Tune in, leave a review, and email me at support@adodemedia.com to share what you'd like me to cover on the next episode of The Podcast Trapper.

"Absolutely I do" with Yann Ilunga

"Absolutely I do" with Yann Ilunga

If you’re willing to try something new and listen to the wisdom others offer, you can do anything. Yann Ilunga, our guest this week, has used this philosophy to do incredible things, particularly in the podcasting space. He’s interviewed renowned guests, organized global conferences, and seen extraordinary success - all while enjoying the freedom and flexibility that comes with running his own business.

Yann took us through his freelance journey, sharing how he found his strengths and the steps he took to keep growing and learning. Fresh from his first work-free vacation, he gave us some great tips for making sure you can unplug and refresh on your breaks. Having conversations with people is the best way to learn, so we’re excited to have had this opportunity to hear everything Yann has to share!

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    1. Why vacationing is often so hard for freelancers and entrepreneurs.
    2. The important lessons Yann learned before, during, and after his time away.
    3. His journey from working as a journalist to making a name for himself in podcasting and lead generation.
    4. That freedom isn’t sipping cocktails on the beach but following a schedule that produces his best work.
    5. About the three Ts and how to use them to find your strengths.
    6. To listen to and be curious about people, using their insights and connections to succeed in your pursuits.
    7. How Yann’s podcasts started as a way to build connections and grew into the work he does today.
    8. That differences in age and experience won’t matter if you see those you’re curious about as just people.
    9. To look at unpopular or emerging spaces as opportunities to experiment and establish yourself in them before anyone else.
    10. How you can take elements from one space and use them to pioneer a new market in another.

Find Yann through LinkedIn to grow your professional network as you learn more from him. Just be sure to mention that you heard him on the Hectic Podcast when you reach out!

Dee Dee Bridgewater is the jazz artist that Yann mentions in the episode.

The Effortless Life: How to Stress Less and Live More with Courtney Elmer

The Effortless Life: How to Stress Less and Live More with Courtney Elmer

Most people believe that stress is a normal part of business and life. My special guest, friend and mentor, Courtney Elmer, believes differently. Get ready to take a good look at your life and your business because Courtney is here to teach us how to simplify them both! Listen in as she shares her personal story, how she came to understand what success meant to her, and when she realized she didn’t have to work to the degree she was in order to have success and make business and life feel effortless. There are several thought provoking questions and great lessons in store for you in this episode!

Courtney Elmer is the founder and CEO of The Effortless Life, a company dedicated to helping visionary leaders get the right systems structure and support in place so they can scale to seven figures while spending more time in their zone of genius. Courtney is a corporate escapee, cancer survivor, and host of the globally ranked Systems Made Simple podcast. Courtney's expertise on business systems and podcasting has been sought by leaders and teams from  Forbes, Business News, Daily PopSugar, Buzzfeed, and many more. She's also the creator and founder of the fast growing Effortless Podcasting Formula, the step by step framework to create, launch and leverage a profitable podcast that positions you as an authority in your niche and drives traffic and sales to your business on autopilot.

    Timestamps:
    • [5:44] Courtney shares how she came to the realization that the focus needs to be on the overall well being of the leader, the visionary or the owner.
    • [11:20] “And it really boiled down to this fear of failure on the surface, but failure wasn't the root for me, the route was looking like a fool. And being rejected and being made fun of almost for failing. And that was the thing that I was afraid of.”
    • [14:34] “Ask yourself, how would I define success for me? How do I define it for me? And that is so key because no two of us have the same definition of success…”
    • [18:17] Courtney tells us that she “believes growth is about stripping away to reveal what's already there within you. The things that are written on your heart, that maybe you haven't taken the time to ask yourself these deeper questions and to ponder and to consider…”

Finding the Basement of Rock Bottom before rebuilding

Finding the Basement of Rock Bottom before rebuilding

Some people find rock bottom... Kevin found out that rock bottom has a basement.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

In Kevin's words: I am the CFO, Founder & Co-Host of Next Level University, a Global Top 100 Self-Improvement Podcast with more than 1,200 episodes and 700K+ listens in over 140 countries.

In my mid 20's... I had it all.

I had a beautiful girlfriend, high paying job, sports car, my dream body... but I still ended up sitting on the edge of a bed debating suicide.

After my rock bottom moment, I went all in on holistic self-improvement.

I was determined to overcome my anxiety, depression and to finally live the life I'd always dreamed of.

Years later, I now host a podcast that impacts hundreds of thousands of people in countries all over the world.

At this stage, I've helped grow the podcast into a multi six-figure business, and I've recorded well over 1,000 episodes.

I've also given hundreds of speeches, trainings and coaching calls with people all over the world.

The main thing that changed was ME.

I focused on learning what I didn't know (unlearning a lot too), and my life started to shift.

I love talking about Consistency, Commitment, Habits, Mindset, Confidence, Fear, Relationships, Limiting Beliefs and everything in between.

I believe in a heart-driven but NO BS approach to holistic self improvement, and I look forward to teaching even more people about what it really takes to get to the next level!⁣⁣⁣⁣

    Getting Out Of #Hustle Mode

    Getting Out Of #Hustle Mode

Have you been sucked into the #hustle and #grind of entrepreneurship? Is your creativity being compromised because you’re working all the time? Well my friend, this episode is for YOU.

This week on The Ultimate Creative Podcast I’m talking with Christy Cegelski, host of the podcast Captivate + Convert about how she started her copywriting business, what it was like to develop (and stick to) boundaries within the business, and how she uses her podcast as a way to support the core mission of her business - to help more women achieve wealth, success, and independence, and to do it in a sustainable way.

“Sometimes I do that by creating email funnels so my clients can automate their sales process and save time. And sometimes I have a guest on the podcast to talk about how to address and managing anxiety, because you can't effectively run your business if you're having panic attacks every day. To me, success isn't just about how much money you make. It's about really the quality of life. So the way I see it, both of those quote unquote ‘services’ align with my core mission.” - Christy Cegelski

Tune into this episode to hear:

    • How Christy’s copywriting business came to be, and how it has evolved to match her lifestyle over time
    • Christy’s motivation to create content that empowers her listeners to not do "all the things,” but to find satisfaction in what they love instead
    • Christy’s top 3 non-negotiables to having a successfully stress-free business?

10 Things To Do When You Get Creatively Stuck!

10 Things To Do When You Get Creatively Stuck!

Feeling creatively stuck? Not sure how to get through your creative blocks? Well I’ve got GREAT news for ya! I’ve put together my top 10 things that I do to get creatively unstuck to start being creative again!

I’m going to challenge you to make your creativity your responsibility. That means pushing through and working on your craft no matter WHAT. Well we can all take sick days and time for ourselves, but if you have a goal and want to make it happen, it’s all going to come down to you!

Here are my top 10 favourite things to do help me get creatively unstuck:

    1.  Go outside! Go anywhere you can
    2. Take an active recovery break - Take in someone else’s art that you wouldn’t normally for a different perspective
    3. Make lists of things
    4. Schedule 20 min per day to mechanically do your creative thing
    5. Find a writing group (yes, even if you don’t like participating in group things)
    6. Let go of control & perfectionism, just put something out there! Who cares what it is?
    7. Give yourself a set of rules to stay within.
    8. Reflect on things you’ve been super successful with creatively before - maybe even over a long period of time!
    9. Write a story about literally anything, make sure it has a beginning, middle and end. It could be 2 paragraphs long, I don’t care, just practice the art of storytelling to remind yourself of the big picture. You can also look up LOTS of free writing exercises online.
    10. Journal every day and process your FEELINGGGGSSSS!

    Your creativity is your responsibility!

At the end of the day if you’re making your creative passion a career, there is a level of professionalism you need to be bringing to it. Creativity and success need to be made possible by your dedication to your passions and craft. That means working on your creative output on the daily, not just when “the spirit moves you” - even if your creativity is stuck.

The less we work on our craft, the less we’re able to develop it. It’s not about getting things perfect every time, it’s really just about the journey and what you learn the whole way through. And yeah, that’s what they all say - and if you’re like me (totally impatient) this is basically impossible. But, that’s just the nature of creating things, pals! It’s a long game that needs to be nurtured!

What are some things you do when you get creatively stuck? I’d love to hear from you! Send me a DM on Instagram at @the_ultimatecreative!

    Solo Chat

In this episode, I talk about the importance of networking. Before the pandemic, it was very important to me to go to events to shake hands and rub elbows to meet the amazing people here in Dallas.  I must say, about 98% of the conversations within the podcast come from people I met at events and festivals.

    Overcoming Burnout

    Overcoming Burnout

Feeling a little #burntout on your business? Sick of doing the thing you literally started because you felt incredibly passionate about it, and now you feel resentful? This is an episode of The Ultimate Creative you don’t want to miss.

In this episode I’m talking with Michael Wood, Founder & CEO of Helium Ventures, a website design company turned video company turned website design company turned complete client experience from start to finish all the bells and whistles company. Yes, it is a LOT of change.

Michael and I worked on websites together ages and ages ago (you can listen to my episode on the website design part of my career here) when he realized that in order to grow his business, he’d have to start delegating out work in order to maintain the pace he had been working at. Throughout this time, we’ve both had our fair share of #burnout and had to come up with creative ways to get through it, and then avoid it at all costs so it never happens again!

    In this episode you’ll hear:

    • How we have experienced burnout
    • What we did in order to get through it and start functioning normally again
    • How we actively work to prevent more burnout from happening

Make sure you hit subscribe or follow on your podcast app so you never miss an episode! I love hearing from you, send me a DM on Instagram @the_ultimatecreative or leave a review for The Ultimate Creative Podcast! The more reviews we get the more people we are able to reach! Thank you!

    One Year Anniversary Celebration Episode!

    One Year Anniversary Celebration Episode!

It’s the one year anniversary of Ultimate Podcast Marketing! WOOHOO! 52 episodes of content about podcasting for podcasters, I actually stuck it out for an entire year!

A year ago, I ended a business and started a new one, which is The Ultimate Creative that you see now, where we are producing podcasts, teaching people, how to podcast and creating content for podcasters to help you launch and grow your amazing podcasts.

Everything felt very uncertain at the time, but there was a feeling in my gut that I should keep going on this route with podcasting. And I was really looking forward to the opportunity to create something that I felt super passionate about.

Everything in my body was saying, no, do not pass go. do not move forward. Stay where you are, stay in your lane girl. You don't need to do anything more than what you're doing. What you've got is fine. And yeah, you might be in tons of debt and yeah, you might not be very happy with what you're doing, but like, why would you try something new?

Despite all these thoughts going through my head, I'm so glad that I carved out a full eight hour day to sit there and record four episodes, which are very shaky at best.

Even though I didn’t really know what the hell I was building a year ago, I did know that I was ready to finally step into the spotlight and be the face of my business, instead of a freelancer behind the scenes, building other people’s dreams.

I'm so excited to share with you all of the amazing results I've seen from having my podcast for a year now, tune in to hear how I:

    • Grew my expertise
    • Moved through the ups and downs
    • Organically grew my email list
    • What's coming next!

Finally, I just want to say thank you to those who have been listening over the last year, following along, sharing your feedback and reviews on Apple Podcasts, sending me DMs asking questions, participating, I love it!

You really have made me feel like the work I put into Ultimate Podcast Marketing is worth every second, and I’m so humbled that I’ve been able to help so many podcasters in the last year, and have such an incredible impact!

So thank you again, and I hope you’ll stick with me and my amazing team for the next year!

How To Structure A Podcast Episode In 3 Easy Steps

How To Structure A Podcast Episode In 3 Easy Steps

If you're planning to start a podcast and you're wondering how to structure a podcast, this episode of Ultimate Podcast Marketing is for you! I'm going to be sharing how to structure a podcast episode in 3 easy steps that will leave your listeners wanting more, every time!

First, what is a podcast structure?

Every podcast is made up of segments. Those segments are essentially the framework, or outline of your episodes. Not every episode will have the exact same framework each time, but there are a few key segments that you should absolutely include in every episode no matter what, and I will cover those in the episode.

Step 1: Choose Your Podcast Segments

There are three basic podcast segments every episode should have, no matter what. An intro, the main content, and an outro.

You could also include special segments, like rapid fire questions, or fun games that you play with your guests from time to time! Who knows, you could even add a random rant corner to your podcast!

    Step 2: Tell A Story

The best content always tells a story. Even if you're creating content like this episode of Ultimate Podcast Marketing, there's an opportunity to weave storytelling into your episodes.

In the main content of your episode, think of the structure starting with the "hook" or "tilt" followed by three heightening beats, a climax, and a resolution.

Step 3: Always Close With A Call To Action

The easiest and perhaps most important of all these steps - make sure every episode has a specific call to action for your listeners! This essential piece is what will turn listeners into loyal fans!

Now that you know how to structure a podcast, what will you include?

Send me an email at emily@theultimatecreative.com or a DM on Instagram @the_ultimatecreative, I’d love to hear about your interesting podcast segments and how you’ve incorporated them into your show!
