It is okay to move a little slower at times to avoid all the mistakes. Take some time to learn your environment and make strategic decisions. Just keep going. Never stop. Have you ever felt like quitting? Let me know here!

Allan Pao - Dancer & Music Enthusiast

    Show Notes
SmArtists, Keith Profeta has loved music more than anything since he was a baby. He was jumping in and out of bands starting at 16, but never really found his true calling in front of the microphone. He started managing a friend’s band, handling all the behind-the-scenes work.  Never being satisfied, Keith started a fanzine to find more great music and reviewed 100’s of band’s demos, offering them straightforward tips on how to get to the next level in their careers.  He was signed on to be a promoter for a couple of them eventually turning it into a full-time booking agency.

    Key Questions I Asked
    1. What were you thinking when you realized that you enjoy management more than being on stage?  What was touring the east coast from New York to Florida as a young planner and manager like?
    2. What should and shouldn’t bands do when communicating with promoters?
    3. What are typical mistakes that artists make?

    Hot Topics
    1. Determining band splits.
    2. What to know when starting a band.
    3. Who can benefit from Indie Band Guru?
    4. Try this networking hack.
    5. Have you considered these branding tips?

    My Favourite Quote
“Some of us get a little scared and you’ve got to power through that fear.” - Keith

I gotta admit that I am constantly feeling at least a bit of fear as I continue down this path. In the beginning, it can be scary because of how newly vulnerable we are. As we get better we encounter greater challenges that may evoke fear. This fear can also be interpreted as excitement. Regardless of what level we are at, use this energy to do what you love doing and nothing can stop you. What was the last thing you did that scared you? Let me know here!

How A Canadian Music Industry GIANT Values Mentorship | Garth Richardson | S3E31

How A Canadian Music Industry GIANT Values Mentorship | Garth Richardson | S3E31

This is Garth Richardson! He is a Juno award-winning Producer and Engineer who began his career at the young age of 15 while working in his father’s studio. Later, he became one of the founders of The Nimbus School of Recording Arts. Garth’s unyielding focus on excellence, dedication, and passion are just a few of the reasons the artists he works with, and the albums he produces, go on to achieve great things. Garth has worked with Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Atreyu, Biffy Clyro, Taylor Swift, to only name a few. I went into this conversation with the intention to unravel how mentorship has impacted his life. As time passed Garth went from mentee to mentor. He knows the immense value that mentorship can be and wants to deliver it to those who are truly committed to what this life is. If you are serious about this Garth wants you to know that this isn’t a job but rather it is a lifestyle.

Episode theme: How did your previous mentors affect how you mentor today? Mentorship coming full circle. It is incredibly difficult if not impossible for people to accomplish extraordinary tasks on their own. Without mentorship, we wouldn’t have a lot of the magnificent art that has been put out throughout history. Humanity’s greatest strength is collective knowledge. If you want to gain a deeper understanding of how valuable mentorship is at all levels then this episode is for you! Watch HERE.

This is Josh Simons! He is a Songwriter from Australia and is one of the Co-Founders of Vampr. He has performed internationally, has written for Travis Scott, and then became a Tech Entrepreneur. It seems to me as though Josh was always willing to risk it for what he believed in. This sentiment was reinforced when he shared the story of how he convinced his parents to let him drop out of high school for a year to make a film production. This drive paired with his life experiences lead to the development of Vampr. Vampr is the number one social platform helping creatives find people to collaborate with, create new music, and monetize their work - it is truly an essential network that grows with you every step of your journey. Vampr has already built a network of more than 750,000 users in 190+ countries accounting for over 6M professional connections. If you are a music industry professional then go download the app right now.

Episode theme: What can be the result of a music social app that prides itself in being an artist-first company? What happens when music passion meets tech? What wondrous creations can come from that? Networking efficiency for one.
