Very Personal to You, My Son’s Story of Darkness Delivered Part 2

Very Personal to You, My Son’s Story of Darkness Delivered Part 2

In last week's episode, I had my eldest son, Steven, on to discuss his story of his deliverance from darkness. This week, I am delighted to have Steven back with his wonderful wife, Madison, to share how she met Steven at the lowest point in their lives, and how they both experienced rebirth through Christ.

Madison explains how after a few years in spiritual warfare with the struggles of addiction, both she and Steven had the veil begin to lift from their eyes, and they saw God begin to work miracles in both of their hearts. She then talks about marrying Steven and the conscious change they both have made as a couple moving forward into the future.

Things We Talk About in this Episode:

    • How can teens or young adults look like they have it "all together" but still struggle with major addictions like pornography or drug use?
    • What does it look like when the Lord begins to "cut things away" in our lives and how should our children approach that when they are in a spiritual battle?
    • How can we utilize the power of prayer over our children? What does it look like to really teach your child to pray?

Very Personal to You, My Son’s Story of Darkness Delivered

Very Personal to You, My Son’s Story of Darkness Delivered

I often like to say the enemy looks for cracks in our lives, small weaknesses or temptations that he can slip into to open us up to sin and temptation. It can become a full on spiritual war for your life, and often times, you don't know how you will find deliverance from the darkness. That is why I am so blessed to have my son, Steven H. Craft, Jr., as today's guest.

Steven shares the story of his battle in darkness with exposure to pornography. Over many years, he struggled with these spirits of lust and feelings of inadequacy. He began to turn to alcohol and drugs as a source of "happiness", only to find the feelings of anxiety grow. However, as he explains in this episode, his story does not end in the darkness, but speaks to rebirth and deliverance through the power of Jesus.

Your Prodigal Child Doesn't Have to Ruin Your Life

Your Prodigal Child Doesn't Have to Ruin Your Life

What does it mean to live well and fully? To see rebirth in your child's struggle with addiction and to feel that recovery for yourself as a parent? That's exactly what our guest, Barbara Decker, shares with us on today's episode. Barbara shares her own story about her son Eric's battle with addiction. Desperate for help, she pleaded with a behavioral therapist to assist her son. What he told her completely changed how she approached her son’s addiction: “There’s nothing you can do that will help your son. Only he can choose recovery.”

After this realization, Barbara began looking inward and working to improve herself. While this seemed counterproductive at first, she discovered that these changes in her own life created a positive change in Eric's as well. Barbara is now proud to say that Eric has now been sober for almost five years with no relapses. Now Barbara wants to break down her process and explain why a prodigal child doesn't have to affect a parent's life in a negative way, but rather can be an opportunity for self growth that leaves lasting results for them and their family.

    Who is Barbara Decker?

Barbara Decker is a Certified Family Recovery Specialist and founder of Live Well and Fully. Her Love Another Way Program has helped parents support their children through addiction-based challenges. Barbara’s Transformative Boundaries helps the mother-child relationship thrive, and parents learn the best ways to interact with, support, and encourage their adult children to overcome their addiction-based challenges. Her efforts have helped families restore peace in their homes and in their minds. The heartwarming testimonials the program receives are part of the reason why she wants to share her program far and wide.

Things We Talk About in this Episode:

    • Why is it important for parents to also focus on themselves when they want to help a child struggling with addiction?
    • What does Live Well and Fully offer for parents of children walking through addiction?
    • Why are healthy boundaries important for parents?

Parenting a Prodigal with Dan and Wanda Perry

Parenting a Prodigal with Dan and Wanda Perry

I know you're going to love this week's guests, Dan and Wanda Perry. Dan and Wanda have a powerful story of how they endured a season of grief together while their son, Nathaniel, chose to walk a prodigal path. They share some of their son's perspective while he was living a wayward lifestyle and what finally brought him to a strong relationship with Christ that eventually led him to become a missionary. If you're dealing with a prodigal, or know someone who is, this episode will encourage you and give you the hope you need to keep pouring into that child. It's an incredible story of God's grace.

Why I Stopped Having a Daily Quiet Time... and What Brought Me Back

Why I Stopped Having a Daily Quiet Time... and What Brought Me Back
If you grew up being told that you had to achieve certain objectives or obey a list of rules to be a Christian, your sense of duty or obligation to God may eclipse your desire for Him… just to be with Him, just to know Him. I know, because I’ve been in that place too. Rather than hungering for Him, in the past, I have denied myself to please Him. Being a true follower of Jesus is not about obligations, burdensome disciplines, or formulas, but rather living each day with an aim of finding satisfaction in Him and pleasure in His presence. After struggling with legalism for years and even walking away from God for a season, I found freedom in choosing desire over duty. It has been 33 years since John Piper first released his groundbreaking book Desiring God, and like so many other believers, that book has changed the trajectory of my life and helped me find freedom from the chains of legalism. So whether you’re in a season of deep satisfaction or wandering in a passionless desert right now, I think there’s something in this message for everyone because we can never get too close to Jesus. We can never exhaust our hunger for Him. So I invite you to listen now as we explore what it means to desire God, how to cultivate our desire even when we don’t feel it, and why it is more important than anything else in life. After listening, visit the blog for free devotional content and a list of resources. www.coreradiate.com/blog/desire-over-duty
