Disrupting the Promotional Products Industry Through Automation with Jason Reinhardt

Disrupting the Promotional Products Industry Through Automation with Jason Reinhardt

This episode of the In The Club Podcast by Club Colors features Jason Reinhardt, Co-Founder, and CCO at BRIKL. He shares how embracing technology is the hardest part because, if it was truly difficult, it would not be possible for BRIKL to be in business.

He talks about how he automated many seemingly small sales processes and created an internal environment founded on collective effort. Jason digs into actionable ways to drum up engagement from your team, as well as leadership lessons from running marathons.

Jason also discusses their drive for standardization by joining hackathons and focusing not just on their buyer's experience, but the end-user's experience. John adds that offering solutions that create the best outcomes for clients' brands is what compels clients to keep coming back.

    HIGHLIGHT QUOTES

A collective effort to create the best outcome for the client - Jason: "I changed one thing and one thing only. Everything done in our sales department is a collective effort and everything that's divided, any bonuses, anything we're doing is a collective effort. And what happens is, once I get my foundation in, I never have to hire anybody. The team does."

End-users prefer convenience over the complexity of choices - John: "In this field, it's about the experience. Could I say I want apparel, promo, hashtags, content creation, kitting, fulfillment, and all of it, could I just give all of that to you and get the same exact experience every single time? That, ideally, is what an end-user wants."

Don't give buyers choices, give them guidance - Jason: "If you're a professional salesperson, you understand the industry and you can guide your clients. And I only like to work with professional salespeople because I do want guidance. I didn't come here to tell you what to do. It's your product... you do this for a living, where are the blind spots that I'm missing?"

Entrepreneurship Is a Game of Pivots | Ben Kander, Founder of Welly

Entrepreneurship Is a Game of Pivots | Ben Kander, Founder of Welly

Welly was born from the lasting impression that Ben Kander’s late mother had on him and from his passion for addressing the water insecurity that is prevalent in much of the developing world. In fact, the name Welly stems from the combination of the word “wells,” which is central to the company’s mission of funding clean water projects, and the word “Elly,” which was the name his mom was affectionately known by. Ben decided that he wanted to do work that would have a positive impact on our global community and environment and that honored his mother’s legacy.

Ben and his team have built a recognizable and successful brand in the highly competitive reusable drinkware industry, which is dominated by overseas supply chains. The impact of the pandemic made him realize just how vulnerable we are to making products half a world away. He began to wonder why no competitor was making these products in the United States, so he started to research the feasibility of doing just that. It turns out that Pittsburgh has all of the right ingredients for creating twenty-first century, high-tech, lean manufacturing. We have a skilled labor force, experience with steel and durable materials, a growing robotics and automation sector, and advanced engineering professionals. In our conversation, Ben talks about his plans for building the country’s first manufacturing facility for reusable drinkware and the many lessons he has learned in running a rapidly growing business.

    Swag.com: Jeremy Parker, Co-Founder & CEO

    Swag.com: Jeremy Parker, Co-Founder & CEO

Jeremy Parker bought the url swag.com to disrupt the boring and outdated promotional products industry. Swag should stand for something new, and be bought differently, and it should be stuff people actually want to keep.

That vision turned into reality as swag.com had 2000% growth over the last three years, made it onto Number 218 on Inc’s Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies list, and counts TikTok, Netflix, Facebook, Amazon, Mercedes, Starbucks, Google, and Spotify as its customers. Even during this tough past year, where events were canceled and offices shut down, the brand kept growing while most promotional product companies laid low or faltered.

In the end, Jeremy's brand succeeded because he kept a razor-sharp focus on the ever-evolving customer experience. There are many brand and marketing lessons in this episode, from smart brand positioning within a commodity vertical to leading with empathy, this is an episode not to be missed.
