Psalm 29 - Holy is beautiful

Psalm 29 - Holy is beautiful

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Psalms 29:2

Today, I was scrolling through X/Twitter and saw so many images, statements and videos, that crushed my soul and made me depressed at the state of our society. It literally hurt my heart. Men dressing as women, murders and governments lying, it reminded me of what Sodom must have been like! Then I read AW Tozer and he shared his thoughts on what is good,
"It is not possible for anything bad to be beautiful. The Scripture says that we’re to “worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Psalm 29:2). It is possible for an unholy thing to be pretty or attractive, even charming. But it is not possible for it to be beautiful. Only that which is holy can be beautiful ultimately.
“Worship the Lord,” says the Scripture, “in the splendor of his holiness.” That’s no casual remark, no casual relation of word to word—the beauty of holiness and the perfection of beauty, and the fact that only God is perfect. They all fit in together beautifully and drop into place, for God is beautiful beyond all description. “How beautiful the sight of God must be,” says the hymn. And how unutterably ugly the sight of hell must be."

Join me in reading Psalms 29 and be encouraged!

Have you ever been asked to praise God during a season of suffering and disappointment, when you felt like you were in a pit or you were at the end of your rope? How did you feel about that request? Did you understand it? Were you angry at the suggestion? Did you feel that God needs to first sort out your situation before you can praise him? Psalm 29 gives us a glimpse into David’s reasons and admonitions for praising God during a difficult season. His reasons are nothing short of empowering.

Storms in the Season of Creation

Storms in the Season of Creation

John explores our experience of  storms both good and bad
while some are destructive they are important for cooling and feeding world
    -          teach us humility in face such force
but also explore what it is like being in the start of a climate change storm
more than just what happening to climate
    -          symptomatic of bigger moral storm been engulfed in for decades if not longer moral storm fed by greed and consumerism
    Then use Pope Francis
    o   integral theology
o   need to break with logic of violence, exploitation and selfishness
o   same mind-set that fuels climate change led impoverishment of millions if not billions around world
o   poorest are most at risk of our changing climate
o   Pope Francis reminds us that this is a moral and theological issue
    -          how do we respond?
    -          can feel like Jesus is once again asleep at back of boat while we drown
    -          only this time we helped make the storm
    -> Paul and new creation
    -          in storm of cross – God is suffering with us
    -          invited to pray incessantly and be well informed
Theme of wisdom – in Job 28
    -          fear, reverence, respect for God and world God created
