Indie producer, film festival programmer, and fellow Maximum Fun movie podcaster Drea Clark called dibs on Muriel Heslop before the first episode of Feeling Seen ever aired. Following the casting notes from Stevie Ray the Daddos set off to pitch the show to Alex Papps; hoping the beloved TV actor will play our lead role. Chris and Pam discuss the next movie from 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. This week's randomly selected movie is Muriel's Wedding. This 1994 Australian movie might seem frivolous on the surface, but it is a movie very layered in emotions and lessons. Muriel is from the small (fictional) town of Porpoise Spit and must learn some valuable lessons about what it means to value yourself. Spoilers are discussed, so watch the movie first if those things matter to you! 

In a summer highlights edition Renee Zellweger talks about her dazzling performance as Judy Garland in the biopic Judy. Joel Edgerton discusses The King, a film he co-wrote with director David Michod and also stars in. Producer Darren Dale talks about the ABC TV series Total Control, and Breaking Bad alumni RJ Mitte with his Top Shelf.

Rachel Griffiths has been telling stories for the past 25 years of her life. 

Whether it’s through movies like Muriel’s Wedding or TV shows like Six Feet Under or Brothers and Sisters - each of which she starred in for years, she’s built her career out of playing interesting characters. But now, she’s decided to create interesting characters. 

You see Rachel was at a BBQ on Melbourne Cup day in 2015 when a lightning bolt of an idea hit her. She was watching the race surrounded by her friends, when the race caller said the words Michelle Payne. 

What happened next went down in history. Michelle Payne became the first ever female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. And Rachel knew in that moment that she had to turn it into a film.

Four years later she's done just that and she joins Mia to talk about it.
