    Chicago: Misandry Set to Music

    Chicago: Misandry Set to Music

Looking back at the classic film, Chicago (2002), we discuss crime as entertainment, fame and the culture of celebrity, and the racist history of clowns (it makes sense in context, trust). If you like misandry set to music, or hate when people pop their gum, this episode is for you! [Content warning: this episode includes discussions of rape, domestic violence, and other potentially triggering topics.]

    1990 - Pretty Woman

    1990 - Pretty Woman

Welcome to the first episode of season 2! We thought what better way to kick off the new season than with a special guest so we asked a good friend of ours to come join us and bring a film with her. As Kirsty was born in 1990 she chose to introduce us all to Pretty Woman!

Come and join us whilst we discuss surprising cameos, creepy bathroom behaviour and an awkward lack of background music!

We all know Sam is not a fan of spontaneously bursting into song, so this week, with your help, Ian forced Sam to watch the Best Picture-winning musical "Chicago" for the first time.

    Episode 213: "Chicago" Hope

    Episode 213: "Chicago" Hope

Come on babe, why don't we paint the town? And by "paint the town" we mean watch a movie. Specifically "Chicago," the semi-controversial pick for Best Picture. The source material is excellent. The movie is a star-studded event type film that everyone loves to sing along to. So what's the harm in giving it a watch? We paired it with Block Nine 2019 Pinot Noir from California, which ended up being a good bottle. I feel like I need to say "and all that jazz."

Movie Sync Notes: We watch the Diamond Edition of the movie on Amazon Prime. We don't think this edition has a different run time than the original. We start "Chicago" 4:45 into the pod, and push play on part two 1:13:05 into the pod.

“We Can Do This” (Return of the Heroes) - Word Docs

They almost succeed. Very, very nearly. This week, Amy, Sean and the other guy do their best to discuss heroes...and end up discussing fairy tales and gender binaries, romantic chemistry and cinema demographics, and anything else that skirts around the issue. Being heroic is hard. Writing heroic characters ain’t a picnic either. Who were the heroes of times gone by? What makes a hero in the modern age? Grab your sword – or your biscuit – and follow the Word Docs as they explore different flavours of heroism.
