His sophomore album, "Find Your Way," showcases his exceptional gift for crafting songs that combine elements of classic rock, rhythm and blues, folk, and soul.  He joins me all the way from Northern Germany, he's Carlos Baker, frontman and songwriter for the C.K. Episode 090 - Van McClain of Shooting Star from October 2001

In this encore episode, we go back 22 years and visit with a friend of mine who we lost in 2018 I have been a fan of Shooting Star for many years and had the opportunity to talk to  Van McClain several times. My late wife and I had the great opportunity to have dinner with Van and Keith Mitchell before one of their gigs in St. Louis.  This was the last interview I had with Van before he passed away.  Van shares some funny road stories that were featured as part of the original Someone You Should Know national radio show in 2001.  The photo was taken during one of our visits in 2000.  RIP My friend.

EP 8 Kidnapped & Missing: Crimes and Misdemeanors Pt. 2

EP 8 Kidnapped & Missing: Crimes and Misdemeanors Pt. 2

This is not a full episode as I'm on the road to Aiea, Hawai'i to visit the Forty-Niner diner and learn how the island's cost of living is forcing many native Hawaiians to leave the state.

Last week's episode (EP 7) was called Crimes and Misdemeanors and was recorded at Randy's Southside Diner in Grand Junction, CO., one of America's top crime communities.

After I recorded the podcast, I checked into a local hotel for the night and hit the lounge for a night cap. I started talking to a guy in the bar, told him why I was in Grand Junction, and he laugh and said, "I got a story for you."

This is Keth's story.  Hope you enjoy it. Back with a new full episode next week!

Episode 018 - Gary Hoey / Ho Ho Hoey

The holiday season wouldn't be the same without the Christmas music of rocker Gary Hoey.  After 25 years of Ho Ho Hoey, he's still rocking the holidays. Gary discusses his Christmas tour and we share a lot of great memories.

Point of note. Gary and I recorded this a few weeks ago. His sister, whom we mention during the interview, passed away last night, Nov 27. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gary and his family.

Anvil - Pedal to the Metal

Anvil - Pedal to the Metal

Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner aka "The Hungo Hammer" have been bandmates and rock 'n roll co-conspirators since the 1970s. Their band Anvil had massive success in the 1980s after the release of their now-classic album, "Metal is Metal".  Bands such as Anthrax, Slayer, and Metallica all credit Anvil with having influenced their sound.

Due to forces beyond their control, Anvil's success didn't stick, and they toiled in obscurity for several years... until 2009, when an old friend and roadie—Sacha Gervasi—approached them about making a documentary about the band. Anvil: The Story of Anvil  took the world by storm with its gritty but touching story of true friendship, commitment, and artistic integrity. The rock doc re-ignited fans around the world.  Since then, the band has been living their long-held dream of touring full-time, and making a living as musicians.

Now, 13 years after its initial release, the re-mastered Anvil: The Story of Anvil, is being re-released to theatres, to the delight of fans both new and old. In this interview, Jane talks to drummer Robb Reiner and director Sacha Gervasi about the buzz around the film's release, the band's imminent European tour, and what success means. Plus, Jane suggests a name for the next Anvil album.
