Hard rock is on tap for today's podcast as my guest is the singer and bassist for a  band that is part West Coast and part Peruvian.  The band is the Dead Groove band and my guest is Holly West. Holly and her bandmates formed during the pandemic and have a new self-titled debut album out. A fellow classmate joins me on this episode of the podcast. Steve Smith and I graduated from Hobart High School in 1978. Steve and his band Caliber Red have been rocking the Desert Southwest for well over a decade. Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner aka "The Hungo Hammer" have been bandmates and rock 'n roll co-conspirators since the 1970s. Their band Anvil had massive success in the 1980s after the release of their now-classic album, "Metal is Metal".  Bands such as Anthrax, Slayer, and Metallica all credit Anvil with having influenced their sound. 

Due to forces beyond their control, Anvil's success didn't stick, and they toiled in obscurity for several years... until 2009, when an old friend and roadie—Sacha Gervasi—approached them about making a documentary about the band. Anvil: The Story of Anvil  took the world by storm with its gritty but touching story of true friendship, commitment, and artistic integrity. The rock doc re-ignited fans around the world.  Since then, the band has been living their long-held dream of touring full-time, and making a living as musicians.

Now, 13 years after its initial release, the re-mastered Anvil: The Story of Anvil, is being re-released to theatres, to the delight of fans both new and old. In this interview, Jane talks to drummer Robb Reiner and director Sacha Gervasi about the buzz around the film's release, the band's imminent European tour, and what success means. Plus, Jane suggests a name for the next Anvil album.
