Episode 410: "I Know What You Did Last Summer" In A Bottle

Kevin Williamson is at it again...getting teens killed by an over the top serial killer out in the middle of nowhere. This time it's in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," one of the more big-name teen slasher films of the late 90s/early 2000s era. The cast is chock full of popular actors of the time that appeared in a number of other movies together. They were almost a brat pack of the late 90s. We pair the movie with Wolffer Estate Summer In A Bottle Rose. It's a little pricier than our typical bottle, but it's honestly worth it. Def a crowd pleaser.

    Metacritic Score: 52/100

Movie Sync Notes: We watch "I Know What You Did Last Summer" on Netflix. We start "I Know What You Did Last Summer" 4:47 into the pod, and push play on part two 1:08:35 into the pod.

Those Reese Witherspoon & Ashton Kutcher Pics Are More Suspicious Than You Think

Those Reese Witherspoon & Ashton Kutcher Pics Are More Suspicious Than You Think

    On the show today…

In exciting movie news (at least for everyone who snuck horror movies into sleepovers in the late 90s) the iconic slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer could be making a big screen comeback with original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prince Jr. Don’t get your hopes up just yet, but here’s what we know so far.

Plus, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted sitting next to 19-year-old model Eden Polani at a party and now the world thinks they’re dating (to be fair, there is precedent). For years, Leonardo’s career protected him from criticism about his age gap relationships, but recently that has all come crumbling down, thanks to an unlikely course.

And everyone was pretty excited by the fact that Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher had teamed up for a new rom-com…until we saw the red carpet photos of them together and decided they hate each other. Now Ashton has come out with a predictable explanation around what happened, but that still doesn’t explain why these two seasoned rom-com stars decided to ignore every red carpet rule and potentially tank their new film.

The Big Sky Pilot - Is This Camp?

The Big Sky Pilot - Is This Camp?

Happy Wine Wednesday! Stacey AKA Sticky Keys of the Beacon Hills After Dark podcast is back this week and you know what that means - MESS!  What kind of mess?  The pilot episode of ABC's Big Sky.

We kick off our discussion by sharing our respective Big Sky "origin stories."  Stacey is all in and up to date on Big Sky and Jocelyn is a newbie.  Next, we talk about the sh*t we liked and the sh*t we didn't like about the pilot.

As always, we had some Qs about the pilot that needed some As.  For example, why in the world was Merilee serving her husband cold, bland, oversized, pieces of bread for dinner?  We also unpack whatever "menopause talk" is and explore whether Big Sky is meant to be creepy, campy, or both.

Of course we talk about the jaw dropping moment at the end of the pilot and get a wee bit messy as we unpack the irony of Ryan Phillippe portraying a character in a mess romantic "entanglement."

We close the spoiler-free segment out with our final verdicts on Big Sky and our thirsty picks from the pilot episode.  There is a brief spoiler section at the very end - don't worry, we give you lots of notice.

Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, and we use adult language!

Cruel Intentions: Justin Timberlake-like Ramen Hair

This week Jenna and Theresa watch the "very engaging and erotic drama," Cruel Intentions. Listen in as the ladies reckon with what it was like to be 14 in 1999 and Theresa continues to confront her adolescent attractions to the absolute worst examples of men.  Filled with sex, drugs, lies and all the worst phobias and -isms of the 90's, this movie is a wild ride.

106: Not with that shirt. I said, not with that shirt. | 54 Director's Cut (1998)

Welcome to the world of disco, drugs, and glamour! We're talking the apparent box office bomb, 54 which has become one of my comfort films. Me and Mikey couldn't wait to talk about the vibe of this production and finally we have the Director's Cut that left out so many plot points from the 1998 version. Our main talking points are the MUSIC, of course the 70s fashion, and why the movie studios sometimes mess everything up.

Off but also on topic rants include: real stories from Studio 54, drag queen staple lip synch songs, and we spend A LOT of time talking how Ryan Phillippe had a chokehold on our teenage dreams.

Short Cuts waterboarded with sno-cone syrup...Love Actually from factory-irregular parts...a catastrophically premature Magnolia...it's Playing By Heart, which is 40 minutes too long, coy about a meaningless end reveal, and contains very few believable situations or lines of dialogue.
