    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

It’s February, so that means it’s time for the AIPT Movies podcast’s “Shredruary” series! Where we cover movies that revolve around music or musicians! In this week’s episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss 2001’s satirical musical comedy, Josie and the Pussycats!

Endless product placement! A classic and catchy soundtrack that features Letters to Cleo’s Kay Hanley and (we think) Matthew Sweet! A consistently funny movie that effortlessly bounces between witty, subversive moments and silly, slapstick comedy! Fun, creative direction from Can’t Hardly Wait’s Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont! A perfect cast that includes Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Parker Posey, Alan Cumming, Missi Pyle, possibly the greatest boy band of all time, Dujour, and the vocal talents of Mr. Moviefone! A misunderstood, ahead of its time gem - with a sweet message about being true to yourself and not getting caught in the cogs of consumerism - that has found the cult following it deserves despite its disappointing box office!

In addition, Tim shares his spoiler-free thoughts on 1988’s Alien Nation and the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Cool as Ice, while Alex talks about Shin Ultraman, Knight and Day, The Beekeeper, and Sniper G.R.I.T.!

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIPT Movies crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter @AIPTmoviesPod.

175: Congratulations, you've discovered life beyond MTV. | Girl (1998)

175: Congratulations, you've discovered life beyond MTV. | Girl (1998)

This was a first watch for both me and Jules. Objectively it's no Oscar winner but when you see it for what it is, there was something there. The casting was incredible and Tara Reid basically stole the show.

We get into the realistic fashion, so many quotes we loved, a real-time deep dive on the director (eek), and just how this story was unbelievable and infuriating at times.

Off-topic rants include: ghost rom-com casting, 'losing your V card' as a movie genre, our first musician crushes

The Big Lebowski feat. Jake Tropila

The Big Lebowski feat. Jake Tropila

Film writer, editor, and podcaster Jake Tropila joins from Los Angeles to discuss the Coen Brothers' 1998 comedy 'The Big Lebowski', starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Though middlingly received both critically and commercially upon release, the film has gone on to become a genuine cult classic, launching a cottage industry of fan screenings, conventions, and even a religion.

We discuss the film's patchwork of influences, including larger-than-life characters withing the Coens' orbit and the works of author Raymond Chandler, especially as adapted by Robert Altman for his 1973 film 'The Long Goodbye'. Then we discuss the film's unrivaled cast, including a superb John Goodman, who turns in an awards-caliber performance as the gun-toting, militant bowling enthusiast Walter Sobchak. Finally, we discuss the film's windy, inarticulable plot, and the way that its mechanics might conceal a deeper level of criticism about the sociopolitical landscape of America on the eve of The End of History.

Tension could not be higher.  We recorded a full episode and it was everything you'd want from an episode: plump, young, firm, and sexy as hell.  Unfortunately, we lost that beautiful piece of meat and now, this is the cut we're serving.  Shirts are officially for sale (great for sopping up blood).  Flow states, drip drip dreams, let your anger sail down the river.  We spend an extended period of time discussing the movie Josie and the Pussycats.  Are you asking why?  Well, why aren't you listening?  Do you prefer reading this to the sweet sweet creaminess of our voices?  No?  Didn't think so.  Celebrity crushes are for your tweens, tell us what dudes you could be friends with.  Michael continues to push his luck with the sweatiest men in the sauna.   This man is a damn glutton for hot talk and hot sweat.

YNFA 041: American Pie, or Stifler’s Mom Has Got It Going On

YNFA 041: American Pie, or Stifler’s Mom Has Got It Going On

Clean off your flute and stop looking at that warm apple pastry like that as we dive… head first? (ugh, we hate ourselves)… into 1999’s American Pie. Should this movie be renamed American Why, cuz we really don’t get why it spawned so many sequels (you know, besides all that money they make). Is it ok to watch teen sex romps in your 40s? Can we watch the dry, smart, funny movie Natasha Lyonne and Jennifer Coolidge are performing in? Eugene Levy can join as the best movie dad ever. And can someone call SVU stat to report these pervs committing an actual sex crime against Shannon Elizabeth’s unsuspecting foreign exchange student? Like a stereotypical teen boy, we can’t promise you many satisfying answers, but we can promise you plenty of weird smells in today’s episode.

GOP SPENT $227 MILLION TO GET SOMEBODY TO TRY TO KILL PELOSI 11.1.22

GOP SPENT $227 MILLION TO GET SOMEBODY TO TRY TO KILL PELOSI 11.1.22

EPISODE 67: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:44) Since 2018 Republicans have spent at least $227 Million on TV advertising to get somebody to try to kill Nancy Pelosi and now we know how they finally got their money's worth with David DePape (2:15) They're not calling it a confession, but that's what it is (3:44) A confession to political terrorism versus the Democratic Party, engineered stochastically by the Republican Party. And every Democrat and every news organization that does not say that is an accessory after the fact (5:13) And this has all be inevitable since January 21, 2010 - since "Citizens United" when the Roberts Court ruled all curbs on how much money corporations could spend on political advertising illegal (10:33) What INFINITY MONEY would do to American politics, and America, was so obvious that night that even I was able to predict much of it on Countdown. If anything, I understated the impact (12:38) Which leaves us this question: if the corporations and the men who run them want more attacks on more Nancy Pelosis - who's going to stop them?

B-Block (20:41) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Pearl in Nashville (21:25) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: On top of everything else, Clarence Thomas is an idiot, and the producers of "2000 Mules" have been jailed! (23:49) IN SPORTS: It's simple. The NBA is going to have to ban Kyrie Irving, We've had the traditional Philadelphia World Series rainout. And I called Hoberg Hoiberg but not Zoidberg (26:16) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Tara Reid can't tell hearts from diamonds. She and Anti-Vax Nut Sherri Tenpenny compete with Don Bolduc - who actually NAMED a school where he thinks this "Litter Box" nonsense is happening - for the honors. But Bolduc is the only one likely to be sued.

C-Block (30:48) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I thought I had met Bill Maher 22 years ago this month. Turns out the date was much, much earlier. But it took 31 years and two near-fistfights to figure it all out.

121 - Alone in the Dark (2005) Review

121 - Alone in the Dark (2005) Review

A paranormal detective researching an ancient civilization soon realizes he plays a central role in the war between the world of the light and the dark. Alone in the Dark is the 2nd movie we reviewed from Uwe Boll, who has a reputation for video game adaptations, although not a good one. We previously reviewed House of the Dead earlier this year and while it was a fun watch, the movie was not the best. Actually, it was pretty horrible. In any case, we wanted to give Uwe Boll another shot and maybe we shouldn't have. Alone in the Dark is a tough watch. Although it's stacked with some big name actors like Christian Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen Dorff, it's a hard watch and doesn't really have any direction. With that being said, give it a watch and listen to our review.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001): "Join The Army"

Josie and the Pussycats (2001): "Join The Army"

It’s no secret that Josie and the Pussycats (2001) is The Best Movie Ever (join the army!), so it was only a matter of time before we covered it here on Spooky Tuesday. It may not technically be a horror movie, but it is in its own way a murder mystery — and given that it’s been just about a year since we first came up with the concept of Fifth Tuesday, we knew its day had finally come. A musical comedy with a banger soundtrack and a killer cast, this flick didn’t get the appreciation and critical acclaim it deserved twenty years ago, but we’re doing our part to make up for that now as we talk about the romantic tension between Josie and Valerie, how absolutely iconic Fiona is, and everything that DuJour means (friendship, crash positions, etc).

This week Zach and Sloane discuss 2001's musical comedy cult classic: Josie and the Pussycats. The duo discuss feminism in film, the gaslighting of BIPOC in the music industry, and of course, Joey McIntyre. This week they make it a whole 22 minutes before discussing pedophilia which leads to Sloane telling everyone her very first AOL screen name which, surprise, surprise, was incredibly inappropriate. The team talks 90's boy bands and asks the question, "Am I sexual?" The answer of course is "Yeahhhhhhhh!" Zach discusses the time he (recently) went to a New Kids on the Block concert and Sloane has a complete mental breakdown when she talks about one day hopefully getting the chance to hug Brendan Fraser.
