Episode 298 - Michael John Cusick, "Trauma-Informed Care, Part 1"

Welcome to another episode of Restoring the Soul with Michael John Cusick. Today, Michael takes you through the deep waters of understanding trauma's impact and how entities like hospitals and clinics are integrating Trauma-Informed Care into their daily routines. With practical insights and real-life scenarios, this episode begins a profound dialogue on creating environments that aid healing rather than hindering it.

    Highlights from the episode include:

    - The importance of incorporating trauma-informed care into clinical settings—beyond therapeutic modalities and organizational culture and practices.

    - Personal anecdotes that underscore the consequences of neglecting a trauma-informed approach, exemplified by a discouraging visit to a dental clinic.

    - Why it's vital for organizations to actively engage clients in the planning process and how this empowerment can make all the difference in care situations.

    - The episode also delves into the specialized field of clinical trauma care, spotlighting treatment methods like EMDR, brain spotting, and somatic interventions.

Discover how the barrier built by porn addiction can become a bridge to abundant life.

What if lust for porn is really a search for true passion?

In a world where there are 68 million searches for pornography every day and where over 70 percent of Christian men report viewing porn in the last year, it's no surprise that more and more men struggle with an addiction to this false fantasy. Common wisdom says if they just had more willpower or more faith, their fight would be over.

Understanding nervous system regulation with Dr. Joy Malik-Hasbrook

Understanding nervous system regulation with Dr. Joy Malik-Hasbrook

Dr. Joy and I chat about why nervous system regulation is so important for parents and kids to understand, and how you can start to explain it to them. We then touch on how you expand the knowledge of nervous system regulation into understanding that some brains and bodies are different, and their nervous system regulation (and finding the green energy) can look different for neurodivergent kids.

Dr. Joy Malik-Hasbrook, PsyD (she/her), is a licensed clinical psychologist who helps children feel seen and grownups heal. She provides regulation and resiliency-based parenting support, specializes in neurodiversity assessments with kids, and presents on nervous system regulation and neurodiversity-affirming assessment. She is a mama of 2, a highly sensitive human, and biracial of South Asian Indian/white descent. She values integrating both Asian contemplative practices and contemporary psychology into her work and is committed to anti-oppressive practices. Dr. Joy understands how challenges with dysregulation create more distress. She believes that understanding nervous system regulation leads to compassion and resiliency and that all families should have access to this information—this book is a start!

Christel Seeberger - Sensory Friendly Solutions

Christel Seeberger - Sensory Friendly Solutions

Working in health care as an Occupational Therapist for over 25 years, Christel Seeberger saw how sensory sensitivity and sensory overload caused people to feel overwhelmed and anxious.

It made people feel isolated and alone. They stopped doing what was meaningful and important in their daily lives. Families ceased doing things together.  Mature adults stopped travelling.  People even avoided going out in their local communities. School became a place of stress for children, youth and adults. Workplaces became intolerable and workers left the workforce.

With adult-onset hearing loss, Christel understands these problems personally; she also experiences sensory sensitivity and sensory overload.

Christel Seeberger founded Sensory Friendly Solutions in 2016 to make sensory-friendly solutions readily available to people, businesses and organizations.

Sensory Friendly Solutions exists to help you; people, businesses and organizations, to find the sensory-friendly solutions you want and need, and to empower yourself with knowledge and awareness to change, and together, we make the world more sensory-friendly, accessible and inclusive.

Incarceration - Episode 8 (Part II)

Incarceration - Episode 8 (Part II)

So I wanted to go through and do some updates to Mandie's episode and I had planned to have this episode out earlier than this but at least it's here now.

In part II of Episode 8, Mandie talks about starting a support group for special needs parents in her local area. Her group, Heroes, has also hosted three sensory-sensitive events for kids and families in Warren in the past year. Mandie talks through the process of recognizing a need in her community, developing programs to meet that need, the work involved, the frustration, but also the enormous rewards she gets from seeing kids and families who can't normally participate because of sensory sensitivities be able to do so.

    This girl rocks my world.
