Jake Serwin & Ian Rhine, hosts of the preeminent Clint Eastwood podcast Pod Casty For Me return to discuss one of the finest studio comedies of the 90s, "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" starring Mike Myers.

We discuss the film as both a product of broader ambient 60s nostalgia in the decade and an extension of Mike Myers deep personal affinity for the cultural output of the era. Then, we talk about the film itself as cultural juggernaut, and why Austin Powers and the Mike Myers brand felt inescapable. Finally, we talk about the film's lasting legacy and the way it in no small part shaped the trajectory of the James Bond franchise (and maybe a few others).

    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

    Shredruary: Josie and the Pussycats

It’s February, so that means it’s time for the AIPT Movies podcast’s “Shredruary” series! Where we cover movies that revolve around music or musicians! In this week’s episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss 2001’s satirical musical comedy, Josie and the Pussycats!

Endless product placement! A classic and catchy soundtrack that features Letters to Cleo’s Kay Hanley and (we think) Matthew Sweet! A consistently funny movie that effortlessly bounces between witty, subversive moments and silly, slapstick comedy! Fun, creative direction from Can’t Hardly Wait’s Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont! A perfect cast that includes Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Parker Posey, Alan Cumming, Missi Pyle, possibly the greatest boy band of all time, Dujour, and the vocal talents of Mr. Moviefone! A misunderstood, ahead of its time gem - with a sweet message about being true to yourself and not getting caught in the cogs of consumerism - that has found the cult following it deserves despite its disappointing box office!

In addition, Tim shares his spoiler-free thoughts on 1988’s Alien Nation and the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Cool as Ice, while Alex talks about Shin Ultraman, Knight and Day, The Beekeeper, and Sniper G.R.I.T.!

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIPT Movies crew, they can be reached at aiptmoviespod@gmail.com, or you can find them on Twitter @AIPTmoviesPod.

167: Danger is my middle name. | Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

    Groovy baby, yeah!

Yes, even I can't believe there are movies that we haven't talked about yet and we're over 150 episodes in. This is another example of just that. Austin Powers is a comfort film for me that I didn't' realize until I started this review. The soundtrack has been burned into my brain for years as I used to play it to fall asleep throughout my mid teens.

Me and Mikey reviewed this one and it was laughs all the way through! We get into the hilarious moments, LOTS of behind the scenes, the FASHION, and rave about the fact that this soundtrack is a whole swingin' VIBE.

Off-topic rants include: Marvel movies, how I haven't seen a James Bond film, my new adventure starting The Crown

Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez And A Carefully Staged Photo

Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez And A Carefully Staged Photo

    On the show today…

The first trailer for The Challenge Australia, the show labeled “the most cut-throat competition the world has ever seen” is here and it’s just a mash-up of reality TV stars seemingly being tortured.

And for decades, Bill Murray was one of Hollywood’s most loveable celebrities. Then a series of allegations, from women who said he was inappropriate on film sets, started surfacing. Now Seth Green has recounted a truly disturbing story where Bill Murray threw him into a bin when he was a child. Will this be what turns the tide against Bill Murray, or do people have fatigue with seeing their favourite stars continually fall from grace?

Plus, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber posed for a series of photos together, and we’re not exaggerating when we say it seems to have caused a global panic attack. But there’s so much more to this story than just a seemingly candid photo, and it has to do with branding and a shift in celebrity tactics.

YNFA 031: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or The Lost Girls of Sunnydale

YNFA 031: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or The Lost Girls of Sunnydale

YNFA is kicking off a month of our favorite pop culture vampires! We're down a few podcast hosts for this one, but up a lot of fan-girling with a very special episode about the GOAT of vampire television show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Randall, Bryce and Dayna take a long trip down the hellmouth to revisit some of their favorite episodes from both the WB and CW years, and ask some important questions along the way. Is the Xander factor just too much for a show to overcome in 2022? Why was Alyson Hannigan so good at crying? Why is it always up to the teenage girl to help old British dudes save the world? And to quote Sarah Michelle Gellar: Is it okay to love Buffy even if we no longer love the man who created her? Put on your best leather duster, throw some stakes in your pocket and pull out your best Buffy-speak for this one.

Later, the gang sit down to discuss Paramount+'s The Offer and ask themselves if The Godfather really got made this way? Also, we attempt to deduce how much time actually passes in a single episode.

Austin Powers: 25 Swingin' Years with Andrew Kennedy

Austin Powers: 25 Swingin' Years with Andrew Kennedy

25 years ago Mike Myers brought the world's grooviest and shagadelic spy to the big screen, Austin Powers.  Heavily parodying the James Bond franchise, the film series has lasted as comedy gold with its use of physical gags, satire, word play, innuendo and hilarious stock characters.  Chris and Taylor are joined by comedian Andrew Kennedy to discuss the three films, their favorite moments and the potential future for the International Man of Mystery.

    Money. Success. Fame. Glamour.

We're back in the NY club scene about a decade later with the Party Monster story. While we mostly stay on the film track we get detailed about the many documentaries about the true story that more than inspired this tale. There are so many fashion standouts that could be its own episode. The portrayal of Michael Alig and James St. James by Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green deserves all the awards. Me, Charles, and Mikey talk this INSANE story, the uncomfortable accuracies, and question just how the fuck this all happened.

Off-topic rants include: TV shows we're obsessing on, newish Brokeback Mountain news, and tales about Mikey's dog Boss.

"Now it's all about photo placement. So if you're in a group of three always, always, always make sure that you're the one standing on the right because that way when they print the picture you'll be the one on the left. The caption will read "James St. James and bla bla bla" were seen, okay?"
