What if We Are Made to Crave Food? Featuring Kirsten Schmidt

What if We Are Made to Crave Food? Featuring Kirsten Schmidt

Today Heather continues a conversation with Kirsten Schmidt, a certified eating disorder recovery coach, and the pair dive deeper into the topic of cravings and our relationship with food. Heather and Kirsten explore the common behavior of suppressing emotions and cravings and how we often misconstrue self-control as maintaining a thin body. We discuss the importance of self-control being about following Jesus and loving others, rather than purely focused on our physical appearance.

Mindful eating is something many of us struggle with, as we are more accustomed to constant busyness than sitting down and truly enjoying our meals. However, we learn that incorporating gratitude into our meals can make all the difference. Kirsten shares three key insights for understanding cravings, including the need to stop dieting, change our perception of intuitive eating, and heal our body shame and fear of weight gain.

Trusting our bodies and listening to its signals is crucial in interpreting our cravings accurately. Throughout the episode, we share personal stories and practical tips for understanding and responding to cravings in a healthy and nourishing way. We also address the shame and guilt often associated with cravings and explore the importance of affirming our cravings.

Towards the end of the episode, we have some exciting announcements, including a special episode on holiday food cravings available exclusively for our Patreon sponsors. We also share information about a Black Friday sale on our body image freedom framework program, where you can make use of a discount code just for our listeners.

Join us as we delve into the wonderful world of cravings and uncover the truth behind them. Whether you're struggling with food cravings yourself or simply curious about the psychology behind our relationship with food, this episode is for you.

how to overcome toxic shame and feeling unworthy

how to overcome toxic shame and feeling unworthy

Arielle has mostly done everything in her life to avoid being laughed at or put down. She ultimately has been motivated by avoiding shame, and instead put on a mask of perfectionism to hide any "negative" emotions. Welp, that backfired and became really unhealthy.

In this episode, Arielle breaks down how she learned to be motivated by shame (hint: its her Asian family trauma), and how rewriting limiting beliefs about her worthiness has ultimately helped her overcome it.

Shame is an elementary emotion. It's for children. We're supposed to learn how to move past it and use worthiness as motivation instead. Listen to this episode and learn how.

Shame and How to Overcome It | Episode 68

Shame and How to Overcome It | Episode 68

This podcast is focused on Shame. Shame is the destroyer of life, possibly the worst feeling we can experience. Shame is also the main driver behind many of our self-destructive behaviors. We need to understand shame, and make efforts to set free from it. As long as we carry shame, it’s virtually impossible to love and trust ourselves, because deep inside we don’t believe we deserve to be loved or trusted. Shame not only affects us emotionally and psychologically, but also spiritually, because shame blocks our connection to our Soul and its spiritual light. When we carry shame, we simply feel unworthy of deep and loving spiritual connections.

The Podcast explains what shame is, how it comes about, and what one can do to overcome it. More specifically, it focuses the following questions:

    - What is Shame?

    - How Shame comes about?

    - Why Shame is behind our self-destructive behaviors?

    - How our mind tries to minimize shame?

    - Why minimizing shame is not the best strategy to avoid shame?

    - And, what we can do to overcome Shame?
