Letting Go Of What Is Not In Our Control (Tiphany's Talks)

Letting Go Of What Is Not In Our Control (Tiphany's Talks)

Today we talk about an exercise that helps us with letting go of things we cannot control.
    Activity:

    • Trace your hand on a piece of paper
    • Write inside the palm of your hand the things that you CAN control- your feelings, your thoughts, your words, your actions
    • Everything else gets written outside your hand... these are the things you cannot control- your car breaking down, the weather, your child getting sick, your x-partner
    • Because you cannot close your hand on these things outside your hand- you must let go of them. You cannot control them.
    • Close your hand around those things you CAN control. Focus on them. Let go of everything else.

Does this activity help you during this holiday season?

Improving Student Social Emotional Support with Sonia Singh

In this episode of IB Matters we talk to Sonia Singh, a PYP Coordinator at Prometheus School in Dehli India. After talking a bit about her upcoming virtual authorization, we hear from Sonia about some truly innovative and effective ways they build students' socio emotional connections.

I was truly impressed with all the ways they are helping students connect with each other and with their teachers while learning remotely.

Some of the strategies we spoke about in the podcast -
Processes introduced to ensure students interacted socially with  their peers and teachers for closer bonding:
        a. Zoom breakfast
        b. One on one student connect time
        c. Morning connect with students everyday
        d. Talent show days

Some processes for emotional well being:
        a. Mindfulness assemblies done by Ms. Amber of Dinocrew
        b. Regular in class mindfulness lessons
        c. Silent work time with background music
        d. Choice activities for students
        e. Stretching exercises for 5 mins before the onset of every lesson to avoid  zoom fatigue
        f. Quality circle time with students to address individual issues

Crying Over Spilt Milk | Scotty Iseri on Strengthening Social-Emotional Skills In Kids And Their Dads

Crying Over Spilt Milk | Scotty Iseri on Strengthening Social-Emotional Skills In Kids And Their Dads

Social-emotional learning, mindfulness, soft skills, emotional intelligence— call it what you want. Learning how to understand and deal with emotions plays a significant role in our ability to handle all varieties of problems we face throughout our lives. In this episode, we get into the nitty-gritty with Scotty Iseri, father of a 7-year-old son and fellow podcaster, on the true value of social-emotional learning (SEL) in school and at home. Also, we test out a new drinking game and encounter a commode-themed mystery in the Flaherty household.

Episode 26 of Modern Dadhood opens with a conversation about the emotional effects of quarantine on our kids. Adam shares about his daughters spent their Summer, and how their experience likely differs from that of an only child. Despite kids, generally speaking, being resilient little beings, the current state of the world is different than anything they (or we) have ever experienced, so it shouldn't be a surprise that there could be some behavioral side effects.

The guys welcome to the conversation Scotty Iseri, a father of one 7-year-old son. Scotty works at Committee for Children, and hosts a podcast called The Imagine Neighborhood, among many other unique talents and experiences. And he also deeply understands the importance of social-emotional learning. Scotty teaches us that the social-emotional conversation impacts everyone regardless of age, sex, or whether they're a child or parent. Topics of conversation include:

    •  It's just as important for us as fathers as it is for our kids, to understand and manage our emotions
    •  Learning how to redirect our energy
    • Teaching ourselves to be okay with big emotions
    •  Social-emotional growth and strengthening isn't inherent - it takes work
    •  How schools are starting to place importance on these skills
    •  Tips for dads when these conversations don't come naturally
    •  The rise of kindness and empathy

Adam shares a So That's a Thing Now concerning his daughters' deuces before the episode comes to close.

CARES Act: Paycheck Protection Program & Disaster Relief Loan for Child Care Centers Ep 19

Is Your Childcare Center Impacted by COVID-19?

In this episode, Jay Whitney of Childcare Brokers answers the questions we have all been asking about the Paycheck Protection Program. Please be sure to join our Facebook community for more useful tools, like videos, pdf files and free trainings to help you get through this crisis: https://www.facebook.com/groups/childcarebusinesscoach/

The SBA Coronavirus Relief Loan – Paycheck Protection Program

    • Do your childcare center qualify? & What’s needed to determine eligibility?
    • How do I calculate the total loan amount my childcare center can get?
    • What counts as “payroll costs? What does not count as Payroll costs? Does the PPP cover paid sick leave?
    • What expenses will this loan help pay?
    • Will I have to pay back my loan? – What is forgiven?
    • Will I owe money if I do not maintain my staff and payroll.
    • Are there any fees?
    • Is collateral or a personal guarantee required?
    • What is the interest rate? Over what period will it be paid back?
    • What documents will I need to complete my application?
    • Can I take out a PPP loan and a SBA Disaster Relief Loan (EIDL)?
    • Why some lenders are not interested in the program? (The bank’s interest rate is only 1%!) Since the program is a “first come, first serviced” program, why a center owner should go with lenders who move fast?
