The Alchemy of Stillness and Motion: Sondra Loring on Transforming Lives Through Movement and Mindfulness

Have you ever witnessed the transformative magic of movement, or felt the intricate connection between your creative spirit and the ancient practice of yoga? Sondra Loring, our esteemed guest, embodies this synergy as a queer witch, interdisciplinary artist, and the Director of Sadhana Center for Yoga and Meditation. Her life's work weaves a stunning narrative that connects the fluidity of dance with the grounding practice of meditation, offering a revitalizing perspective on trauma-informed yoga through her impactful program, Moving Potential.

This episode is an intimate exploration of the threads that bind yoga, creativity, and the joys of living a mindful life. Sondra's candid recollections—from her early days as a ballet dancer to a beacon of hope for those dealing with the repercussions of incarceration and addiction—paint a vivid picture of a journey rich with learning and humility. Her stories serve as a guide, revealing how we too can integrate movement and meditation into our daily rituals, fostering spaces where sorrow is met with gratitude and personal growth is achieved through the mentorship of brilliant minds from diverse disciplines.

As we bid adieu to Sondra, we find ourselves wrapped in the warmth of community and self-care, embracing the simple pleasures of vibrant attire, morning candle rituals, and the comfort of our shared human experiences. From Athlete to Astrologer Exploring Identity and the Cosmos

From Athlete to Astrologer Exploring Identity and the Cosmos

Have you ever wondered if the stars could be your guide through life's tumultuous journey? Evolutionary astrologer Ben Kibby joins us to shed light on how combining astrology with aromatherapy and shamanic practices can illuminate the path to personal mythology and joy. Our conversation veers into the unexpected as we draw parallels between celestial movements and the peculiar technical difficulties, as if Mars itself had a quirky sense of humor about our recording schedule!

From the wrestling mat to the enlightening tenets of Buddhism, Ben's story of identity transformation reveals the powerful shifts that can occur when we step outside societal norms. Ben and I engage in a heartfelt discussion about those moments in life that force us to confront who we are and who we want to become. As we converse about the liberating journey from an athlete in a world of toxic masculinity to someone more attuned to their spiritual awakening, it becomes clear that our greatest defeats may set the stage for our most profound growth.

We wrap up our session pondering soul contracts, the comfort found in the cosmos during times of grief, and how astrology can act as a navigational tool at life's myriad crossroads. Whether you're new to astrology or seeking deeper understanding of your own birth chart, this episode promises to offer a fresh perspective on the cosmic dance between fate and free will. So, join us for an exploration of the skies and the self, and let's discover together how the heavens might reflect our most human experiences.

"From a Crippling Depression to World Medals" with Amna Al Haddad, Ex-Olympic Lifter

"From a Crippling Depression to World Medals" with Amna Al Haddad, Ex-Olympic Lifter

This week's guest on the One Day Podcast is Amna Al Haddad, who made history as the first female Arab weightlifter to compete in hijab. Her career opened wide doors and opportunities for her such as allowing her to partake in Nike’s Hijab Pro campaign and product launch.

Those are not the only inspiring milestones in Amna’s journey since there was a bigger battle she was fighting against, and that was her depression. Turning the crippling dark depressed phase of her life into world victories while shattering glass ceilings of society through pursuing a “not very feminine” sport is what makes Amna’s story a truly inspiring one.

During the episode, Omar delves deep into Amna’s journey of self-mastery and growth to explore the intimate details of these life-changing moments and decisions that Amna took along the way.

Today, Amna is a mental health advocate and motivational speaker. As the first UAE national to receive the Rosalyn Carter Journalism Fellowship for Mental Illness, she is using her experience and story as means to raise awareness about mental health and its place in society.

Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2021 St. George...The Tough Get Going

Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2021 St. George...The Tough Get Going

This was the most unexpected race I have ever done. I was calmer than I have ever been leading into the race, especially for it being a World Championship race. Calm before the storm really proved true on Saturday morning. I wouldn’t have believed it if you’d tried to tell me beforehand what the weather would do.  And how challenging it would make the course, especially because the course was made to be difficult so it earned the title of a world championship course.

Some races are a battle just because of the nature of the sport, this race added another element with the weather working against us for so much of the race.

The nagging thoughts to quit or just not care about trying my best were so loud.

The saying “When the going gets tough, the tough get going” became the theme of the race after I looked back on the details of the race.

I continued to fight and move up the ranking until the last minutes of the race.

I had a huge burst of energy toward the end of the race, and I let that carry me into the finish line. I was running so fast that my mind was willing but my body was weak, and I almost tripped on the red carpet.

It is amazing to see how determined our spirits are when things get harder and harder.

How do you go through your race of life? Do you give into the pain or stay determined?

This race will be implemented in my heart forever. The lessons I learned from Saturday will help me to keep moving when I go through the storms of life.

Finding you WHYS and WHY NOTS

Finding you WHYS and WHY NOTS

Why does it really matter if you find you WHY? Why would you want to find out your WHY NOT? I answered both of those questions this week on the podcast.

I help you with creating some solid whys. Then we take a look at the thoughts that are not helping us take the action we want i.e. weight loss.
I help you understand how the sneaky default thought or sentence in your head give you temporary relief, but not last results.

Both the why and the why nots are important if we want to really get empowered and take the actions that will take us forward and not stuck.

    Taking off the MASK

    Taking off the MASK

In this episode I talk about what it is like to take off the invisible mask. Now that the mask mandate is being lifted and we get to take off the physical mask, let take the chance to take off our invisible mask as well.

We often wear an invisible mask with our emotions.

We pretend that everything is fine.

Now that we are taking off the mask, this is a perfect time to do a reset and take off our invisible mask as well.

We can also work on not using food to mask our emotions.

The last thing I talk about is how exercise is a great place to see what it is like to live an unmasked life.

Crash & Rise to Success - with Mike Shoreman

Crash & Rise to Success - with Mike Shoreman

The story of Mike Shoreman, how a debilitating illness that stemmed from the Chicken Pox he had as a child took him from his career as a professional paddleboarder and surfer to a person who needed a cane to maintain his balance on dry land. Mike explains what happened in depth. How the illness took him out of the life he knew and how it came to a complete crash so to speak. It was so devastating he had to check into a mental health facility. That was the low point of his life and from there he turned things around.

In a relatively short period of time Mike went from being totally devastated and broken to becoming a speaker, well actually he entered a contest at Speaker Slam. If you haven’t seen his speech at Speaker Slam, you need to watch it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R5DYP1ipD0

Mike gave his speech with the goal of uplifting about three out of the 350 in attendance. He did pretty well, so well that he won the contest! Within a week or so from the contest Mike’s speech was being picked up and going viral on sites like The Power of Positivity, A Plus, and Jay Shetty.

In 2020, people have lost businesses, dealt with isolation, suffered mental health issues among other challenges during the whole Covid 19 pandemic. Mike feels that we are all “unbalanced paddleboarders” in a sense and is grateful for the fact that he can bring value and positivity to others.

This episode is loaded with lessons. Overcoming obstacles, having small wins lead to other wins and continuing to make steps in the right direction, surrounding yourself with othe rpositive people, being aware of your situation in life, getting coaches to help through challenges and projects, are some of the main ones Mike brought up.

Eric and I are fascinated with his story and we know you will be too. How a man who was completely broken mentally to now working with people like Jack Canfield and is a National Spokesperson for Paddleboarding in Canada and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for People With Disabilities. It really is remarkable that it happened and in such a very short time period too!

Thriving in your SWEET SPOT of effectiveness

Thriving in your SWEET SPOT of effectiveness

What is your sweet spot? It is where you find your optimal balance with the most effectiveness. I share an example of sweet spot training in my cyclying. It is the place where you are uncomfortable but you can still manage.

I offer  three ways to strive to get into your sweet spot.
-Take the action, and then sort out later
-Be willing to be uncomfortable. Figure out what discomfort you can handle but still manage.
-You don't have to find your sweet spot, but it does lead to gradification. It helps shape your life with your unique abilities .

It is a constant process to find balance. It take trial and error, and using constructive self talk to get to our most effective self.

"Louder the Words" by Todd Henry is the book I referred to. Finding the sweet spot in our lives

LBM: Where are You Placing Your Focus?

LBM: Where are You Placing Your Focus?

I learned the hard way that where my focus goes, my energy flows. When I’m having a good day, this is great, but when things are upside down like they are in the world right now, this can be really tricky. This short Light Bulb Moment episode is meant to bring us back to mindfulness and self awareness, as well as share some tools and questions that help me get into a higher vibe state.
