The research has shown that there are many positive resulting from Ayahuasca and other psychedelics, including neurogenesis(new brain cell growth), positive neuroplasticity, (rewiring of how the brain is connected and how brain cells communicate with each other), decreased information in others.

    We get into the differences in PTS, PTSD and how traumatic brain injuries are some times mimic that of PTS and TBI due to their similar symptoms.

    Conversation with Special Guest Jill Bolte Taylor

    Conversation with Special Guest Jill Bolte Taylor

    Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD, is a Harvard trained and published neuroanatomist. In 1996, she suffered a stroke and as a result, she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life. It took eight years for her to completely recover all function. In 2008, Dr. Taylor gave the first TED talk that ever went viral: My Stroke of Insight. Her memoir My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey spent 63 weeks on the NY Times bestseller list and is translated in over 30 languages.

    In this episode, Anat Baniel and Jill Bolte Taylor discuss:

    • how to live in a place of possibilities, where Jill and Anat both live;
    • the importance of creating a safe foundation for yourself (and your family);
    • how NeuroMovement® and the 9 Essentials wake up the brain and drive continued growth to higher levels of functioning;
    • how Jill’s recovery process was the same as Anat Baniel’s groundbreaking work with adults and children with special needs with a variety of conditions;
    • the brain is a learning machine, and it wants to learn and learn and learn;
    • related questions from the audience.

    Heads up! Concussions can happen during physical activities such as sports or even with a fall or accident at home. Everyone is at risk for a concussion, not just athletes. We sat down with Ogden Clinic Kaysville's Sports Medicine specialists Brett Martindale, MD, and Lane Christensen, DNP, for a "concussion discussion" to talk about how we can keep our noggins safe and how to prevent, detect, and treat concussions.

    E50: Ryan Boyle- When the lights go out

    E50: Ryan Boyle- When the lights go out

    In Ryan's Boyle's own words:

    In October of 2003, a black cloud seemed to hang over our family, which all culminated on a wet, fall day when I was hit and dragged by a pickup truck while riding a Big Wheel type toy at a friend’s birthday party. The medics who arrived on the scene were ready to pronounce me dead due to my horrendous injuries. The impact of the truck was directly to the back of my head; immediately I went into a coma.

    Miraculously I did make it to the hospital and through emergency brain surgery where part of my cerebellum was removed, along with a large portion of the back of my skull. I also suffered many broken bones and other such injuries.

    At the age of 10, I had to learn how to breathe, swallow, talk, eat, stand, sit, walk—everything—all over again. We take for granted that as babies we learn to do all of these things. It’s seemingly no big deal, but it was a huge deal for me. The fact is that medical experts know very little about how the brain works, which means they aren’t very good at knowing how to deal with a traumatic injury to it. The first doctor that saw me once I awakened from my coma quoted, "I am optimistic that Ryan will gain enough strength in his right hand to type." After this grim prognosis, my battle began. When the Lights Go Out tells about a young man’s desperate struggle to return to a regular life after sustaining a traumatic brain injury at the age of nine; it is both inspirational and moving. The fact that I wrote my first book as a freshmen honor student at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut is not only an amazing accomplishment in itself, but also one never thought possible by all of the experts.

    When the Lights Go Out will take you from my catastrophic injuries and the battle against death to my continuing success story of recovery, now in Georgia. I not only explain the obvious physical challenges that I faced, but also the emotional and psychological challenges which, at times, were my greatest obstacles. I cover the critical role of faith and spirituality that gave me hope and strength to overcome tremendous challenges. I touch upon the healing power of friends, the inherent goodness of people to help when they are needed the most, and the importance of the support and love of my parents and brother as the foundation through all of my recovery. This inspirational story is a living example of how a horrific event can be overcome by measures of strength, determination and faith that you never knew you had within.

    Learn more about Lynn from LynnDelGaudio.com

    "I’m Lynn DelGaudio, and I am an Integrative Health & Mindset Coach, Motivational Speaker and Author. I believe in the brilliant ability of the mind to catapult us into amazing places in our lives. I experienced this first hand after a traumatic brain and spinal cord injury in 2014. During the healing process, it became clear that my mind would need a full redesign if my body were to heal. I knew this attention to my thoughts was of paramount importance, but I had NO idea just how powerful and life altering it would be! My mind redesign became the catalyst for not only my healing, but also toward incredibly purposeful and passionate living. I now coach others so that they too may experience similar transformation. Whether you’re an entrepreneur feeling stuck, a busy professional who wants balance or a more creative and fulfilling experience, or an employer who wishes the same for your team, I have the tools to get you back on track, regain your balance and mojo, and create a more vibrant, inspired, productive, and empowered environment and life."

    036: Inflammation and Diet

    036: Inflammation and Diet

    Welcome to A BATTLE WITHIN, Episode 036.

    Today on A BATTLE WITHIN, we investigate  inflammation and how diet can help.

    We believe that both inflammation and diet do not get enough consideration as one tries to heal from a brain injury.

    We'll be passing along some things we learned, resources available that we discovered as we continue down the road of recovery, so be sure to stick with us.

    We will get to it in a moment, but first-

    A BATTLE WITHIN is about our life experiences and those of our guests living with and healing from Post Concussion Syndrome.(PCS) The conversations are real, raw and uncensored from both the survivor and caregiver perspectives.

    It is our desire that this platform be a useful way to create awareness around the invisible injury and help those in the battle, whether that is you the patient or you the caregiver. One way to do this is to share! So please share!

    Please note that Terry and Drew are not medical professionals nor should their perspectives be taken as medical advice.

    The Brain Wants to Heal

    The Brain Wants to Heal
    PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury, are certainly not unique to veterans. As a group, however, they have the largest percentages of people suffering from these conditions. Because of the severity of their symptoms, a lot of attention has been focused on them, as it should be. Let's not forget, however, that a lot of other people go undiagnosed because they have not been in the Armed Forces. Often their war zone is at home or in their neighborhood or maybe at work. Because there are no guns, we don't look for the symptoms or recognize them. We think that it's only related to war. I hope that all of you listen carefully to this broadcast because you or someone you know is suffering from undiagnosed PTSD or TBI. The good news is that when properly identified, there are new methods which provide hope and healing where previously there was none. The brain wants to heal itself and can with the appropriate treatments. Please join us Thursday to learn more.
