This Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor Finds a New Home in Bankok

WELCOME BACK to A Mental Health Break. This is the podcast where we normalize the conversation on mental health. You are not alone. This week's spotlight story is on Jackie Chan.

After Host Vincent A. Lanci suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) he learned that he needed to prioritize my mental health. He wants to help you do the same.

Chris Dittrich suffered a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in 2008 and has been fighting back ever since.

He will share a story of resilience and HOPE with you today.

By keeping a positive, optimistic, 'Keep Moving Forward' mindset, he continues to experience improvement even 14 years after his injury.

Adapting to his new life has brought him around the world, working in Hong Kong, studying in Beijing, Ecuador, and now working in Bangkok (pre and post COVID), which he calls home!

    39. Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Mental Health

    39. Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Mental Health

As mental health clinicians, we may have little scope of knowledge in our understanding of how a Traumatic Brain Injury can affect an individual’s mental health.  We all may have some familiarity with brain rest, but there is so much more that clinicians should be aware of to effectively treat our clients. Dr. Alicia Reiser explains how someone might initially appear to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), social anxiety, or depression, when in fact some of these symptoms could be the result of a TBI.

    About Angela Ziegler MA, CCC-SLP

Angela began her professional career as an SLP in 2011 working in a series of skilled nursing facilities that ranged in size from 25 beds to over 400 beds, including a dedicated long-term pediatrics wing. She worked with kids in both home health and school settings for a period, but pediatrics was not her calling. Her heart lies in adult neurological disorders. She has worked at Orlando Regional Medical Center for nearly 9 years in all settings: acute care, in-patient rehabilitation, and outpatient care working with patients and their families through challenging diagnoses such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, brain tumors, Parkinson’s Disease, spinal cord injuries (SCI), and other diseases, both common and rare.

In 2017 Angela was recruited by Dr. Janet Whiteside to the UCF Communication Disorders Clinic as an adjunct clinical instructor after a chance encounter at a conference in Tampa. Angela has been deeply touched by aphasia, stroke, head and neck cancer, and brain injury in both her professional life and her personal life as well. She continues to work at both UCF and ORMC, treating patients, and teaching graduate students, and she began her private practice in 2021 to reach families through education and support. Angela has been married to her husband Tim for 17 years and together they have 4 daughters.

4 Degrees in Psychology + TBI Expert - Jennifer Blanchette

Mental health advocates and professionals share their "WHY" relating to mental health and stream from around the world to help you on your journey.

Learn how trauma, the nervous system, and mental health are all related on this show. Jennifer brings 4 degrees in Psychology and a passion to help others along their trauma journey to the show.

Her passion has extended to a BRAND NEW Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

She also shares and sheds light on how professionals are not immune to mental health challenge. They are still human. She describes how doing the work herself helps her immensely with her clients.

    Meet Blanchette:

I am a therapist of faith who is deeply interested in the role of trauma and the nervous system in my client’s lives. I focus on finding meaning in your life by discovering how your brain injury or trauma has changed your life.

In therapy my clients have described me as warm, assertive, compassionate, and wise. My approach is to deeply understand you through listening and asking questions to find goals that we will co-create to get you the results you need.

I work best with highly motivated and invested professionals, students, and couples after a brain injury or trauma. They tend to be committed and willing to show up to work on these difficult places we go into together. I plan to MEET you there to be your coach, cheerleader, or gentle guide as needed in this space we make together.

To that end, I am a skilled practitioner in several evidenced based techniques that we will discuss in your treatment. I have four degrees in psychology including my doctoral degree from Regent University an APA accredited program in Christianity and Psychology. My postdoctoral residency in neuropsychology was completed at Goodwill Neurorehabilitation in Portland, Maine. I am licensed as a psychologist in the state of Maine.

Head Injuries and Mountain Biking - The Inside Line Podcast

Head Injuries and Mountain Biking - The Inside Line Podcast

Welcome mountain bikers, I'm honored to be joined by three fantastic guests on this episode of The Inside Line. We will discuss mountain biking and head injuries. None of us are scientific or medical experts on the subject, but during the last World Cup DH race webcast from Les Gets, Jeff Brines and I were texting and discussing Thibaut Daprela’s incredible race-winning run with the sidebar of his recent knockout crash at French National Champs a week prior. I said let’s do an Inside Line about the subject and here we are.

Discuss your experiences and information about head injuries in our forum here

Jeff, has been a Vital MTB bike and product tester, he's long-time DH and enduro racer, he’s one of the few people to have owned a handmade carbon BCD bike from Alex Morgan, and, he may be one of Vital’s most prolific site commenters based on number of characters typed over the last decade. I’d have to imagine it’s a close call between him and Primoz.

Matt is co-owner of Momentum Trail Concepts, long-time friend and bike racer, he has the rainbow stripes of a Masters World Champion, and he’s legitimately the reason Vital MTB exists (listen to his Inside Line from a few years ago to find out why).

Craig "Stikman" Glaspell is the main MTB marketing man over at Troy Lee Designs, known for their D-series helmets and riding gear. He has years of experience as a World Cup DH mechanic and industry vet and was an influential mountain bike website entrepreneur in the very early 2000s.

Jeff and Matt are both on the show because they have plenty of experience racing and dealing with bike-related head injuries. They’ll tell their stories. Stik comes at us with industry experience in the helmet and protection category, as well as being in the position of a person who pays his sponsored athletes to ride their bikes and risk injury as a result.

We’re not trying to single out Thibaut as an example. His performance is what got us talking. Andrew Neethling and Ed Masters discussed Thibaut's crash a bit on Moving the Needle last week, which was awesome, and it seems, at least from our perspective, that there’s a growing concern for safety among our community.

Frequency Therapy for Depression - A Holistic Anti-Depressant

Frequency Therapy for Depression - A Holistic Anti-Depressant
Depression runs rampant in the world. Most people are on anti-depressant medication that has dangerous side effects and doesn't take care of the underlying causes of depression. Microcurrent frequency treatment is being used to shift the bioenergetic field of individuals struggling with these issues. What are some of the potentials of microcurrent frequency treatment? *better sleep *stabilized nervous system *less anxiety *improved impulse control *diminished social anxiety
