Chapter Thirty-Three - Samwell 2 - A Storm of Swords | A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF)

Sam and the remnants of the Great Ranging find respite at Craster’s Keep. However, their host isn’t overflowing with generosity. Hunger and frustration eventually bubble over into mutiny. Sam finds himself without his friends but with two dependents, while the Others are set to enter stage right at any moment. Mackelly and Simon pack the diaper bag.

    Chapter Review:
Samwell Tarly attends to the ailing ranger Bannen, while he and many of the other Night’s Watch brothers shelter in Craster’s Keep. Craster gives them only a weak onion soup for sustenance, while Craster dines on a sausage. Sam eventually goes outside, where some of his brothers call him “Slayer” in a mocking reference to his claim to have killed an Other. While Sam chats with Grenn, Lord Commander Mormont arrives and pulls Sam aside.
Sam had told the Lord Commander about how he killed an Other with a dragonglass dagger. Mormont realizes that the Night’s Watch has forgotten their true purpose over the thousands of years. You don’t build a 700 foot wall to keep wildlings out. Unfortunately, they only have a few dragonglass weapons available to them. Most of the cache Jon found was left on the Fist during the fight with the wights.
Craster emerges from the hall with news that his daughter-wife Gilly has given him a boy. Later, Mormont announces they’re leaving in the morning. During a feast provided by Craster, using the dead horses of the Night’s Watch, a mutiny transpires. Craster and Mormont are killed. Two of Craster’s wives urge Sam to flee and take Gilly and her son with him. The Others will be here soon.

    Characters/Places/Names/Events:
Samwell Tarly - brother of the Night’s Watch, friend to John Snow. Slayer of Others.
Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
Craster - Wildling who marries his daughters and disposed of newborn sons. Considered a friend of the Night’s Watch by some.
White Walker (Other) - Ice beings from north of the Wall. Able to reanimate the dead to their cause.
The Wall - 700ft wall across the continent. Manned by the Night’s Watch.

    116: "Opposites Attract"

    116: "Opposites Attract"

Did we actually get an intern? Is this episode regular weird or different weird? And what are the neurological effects of jumping into the MIDDLE of this television show? We contextualize these questions and more as we watch Season 5, Episode 20 of Family Matters.

Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.

Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:

    A Year in Horror - Das Jahr 2001 [S01E02]

    A Year in Horror - Das Jahr 2001 [S01E02]
Ihr wolltet sie, ihr bekommt sie: Dank Eures positiven Feedbacks ziehen Patrick und Daniel in unserer zweiten Episode von A Year in Horror ins Grusel-Jahr 2001. Welche Genre-Perlen und Geheimtipps Euch dort erwarten, hört Ihr im Filmfrühstück Podcast.

A Year in Horror – Das Jahr 2001

    A Year in Horror – Worum geht’s?

    A Year in Horror

Gebt uns weiterhin gern Feedback.

Prologue - A Storm of Swords | A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF)

Prologue - A Storm of Swords | A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF)

Chett’s plan to murder the Night’s Watch leadership is defeated by the arrival of the White Walkers. Simon and Mackelly check the temperature.

    Chapter Review:
Chett is trying to convince his canine charges to follow some bear prints. The Night’s Watch badly need some food. The dogs are not interested. Chett and his companions discuss the plan to murder Lord Commander Jeor Mormont and anyone who could track them. Chett’s plan is well thought through, but he’s worried about the reliability of the men he’s conspiring with.

They give up the hunt and return to the Fist of the First Men, where Grenn and Edd are giving Samwell Tarly archery lessons. Chett sticks around to heckle Sam, who he blames for his woes. Sam took the job that Chett used to hold, a time he thinks of as the best of his life. Sam is on the list of who dies tonight, partially to prevent ravens being sent to the Wall with word of their treachery, but mostly out of spite.

Chett’s plans crumble when snow falls. Even the least competent tracker can follow 14 traitors through fresh snow. Chett’s distraught, but decides to vent that fury on Sam. He finds him sleeping by the ravens. He pulls a knife but just before he can act, three horn blasts sound - The White Walkers are coming.

    Characters/Places/Names/Events:
Chett - Member of the Night’s Watch, keeper of the hounds.
Sam Tarly - Member of the Night’s Watch, assistant to Maester Aemon.
Grenn - Friend of Sam and Jon Snow.
Edd Tollard - laconic friend of Sam and Jon Snow.
Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
Fist of the First Men - Outcrop of rock north of the wall. In ancient times used a fort.
White Walkers - AKA The Others. Supernatural creatures of the far north, who can raise the dead to their aid.

Episode 128: Sermon on the Mount Part 6

Episode 128: Sermon on the Mount Part 6
Verses one through five should be the new rules for social media. It might tone down some of the sniping and canceling that goes on these days. This section of the sermon is so timely for our culture and it is a strong reminder that we are definitely flying upside down in this area today. If just “Christian” people would live this out, we would see a huge difference in the way we treat one another in our culture. I also love how the golden rule is restated here in the Message. It makes so much sense and the idea of taking the initiative to do good to others is another one that if we actually did it, we could change our communities. This is the whole reason that I am doing this podcast, so that we can look into the mirror of scripture and let it change us. I know that I need to cut the sarcasm and attitude before I point out what’s wrong with you. This is what I’m asking God to help me work on. What needs to be changed in your life?

Chapter Fifty-One - Jon 6 - A Clash of Kings | A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF)

Chapter Fifty-One - Jon 6 - A Clash of Kings | A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF)

Jon and Co. climb the Skirling Pass into the Frostfang Mountains. They spot wildling lookouts and after a harrowing nighttime climb they capture a wildling girl. Qhorin orders Jon to kill the girl but Jon can't do it and lets her go. Simon and Mackelly discover the real reason the pale-blue t-shirts are our best-selling merch.

    Chapter Review:
Qhorin Halfhand’s crew sees the light of a fire up ahead. Wildling lookouts have risked the light for some warmth. They won’t get much from Qhorin. He sends Stonesnake and Jon Snow to climb around the watchers and silence them before they can raise the alarm. Jon orders Ghost to stay behind.

The climb is very dangerous, but the two arrive just above the wildlings’ position and drop on them unannounced. The two men are quickly dispatched and Jon grapples with the third figure who was sleeping. It turns out to be a young woman named Ygritte. Stonesnake gives the signal and the rest of the party to join them.

Ygritte tells the tale of Bael the Bard and why she and Jon share blood. He’s somewhat taken with her, she’s made of tougher stuff. The Halfhand knows what has to be done and leaves Jon to kill Ygritte. The old softy can't do it, but won’t desert his companions as she suggests. He lets her go.

    Characters/Places/Names/Events:
Night's Watch - Men who guard the Seven Kingdoms against threats from beyond the Wall.
Jon Snow - Bastard son of Eddard "Ned" Stark. Recently sworn brother of the Night’s Watch.
Ser Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
    Ghost - Jon Snow’s direwolf.
Mance Rayder - Leader of the wildlings, self-styled King-Beyond-The-Wall.

Stonesnake - Ranger from the Shadow Tower. Best climber in the Night’s Watch.
Ygritte - Wildling girl captured by Jon but subsequently released.

Chapter Thirteen - Jon 2 - A Clash of Kings | A Song of Ice and Fire

Chapter Thirteen - Jon 2 - A Clash of Kings | A Song of Ice and Fire

The Great Ranging has found a fourth abandoned wildling village under a great weirwood tree. There is no sign of struggle or clue as to their motivations. Mormont sends word to Maester Aemon via one of Sam’s ravens and the ranging continues north. Mackelly and Simon try to keep warm.

    Chapter Review:
The wildling village is deserted. Only some charred human bones remain within the mouth of the weirwood tree that shades the entire village. Ser Jeor Mormont wonders why the wildlings burn their dead, but Jon Snow has a pretty good idea. This is the fourth abandoned village they’ve found. So Mormont pens a message for Maester Aemon.

Jon delivers the message to Sam, who is supervising the ravens. He’s trying to teach them to talk. Sam is warming to the ranging, as there don’t appear to be any wildlings around. That which reassures Sam is troubling to everybody else.

Jon and the Old Bear discuss what Benjen Stark would have done had he found the villages deserted, and they conclude that he would have continued on to try to solve the mystery. This gives Jon some hope. Their force will soon be swelled to 300 when they rendezvous with Qhorin Halfhand’s men from the Shadow Tower. In the meantime, the trek north continues.

    Characters/Places/Names/Events:
Night's Watch - The men who guard the Seven Kingdoms against threats from beyond the Wall.
Jon Snow - Bastard son of Ned Stark. Recently sworn brother of the Night’s Watch.

    BONUS: Intro to KIDMANIA

Kicking off a month long celebration of the films of Nicole Kidman with a general career overview.

Andras & Bryan kick off a month-long celebration of the work of NICOLE KIDMAN with a brief discussion of her overall career, as well as an explanation of how the world can be wrong about someone as famous and successful as she is.

How is the world wrong about Nicole Kidman?

From Andras: It’s easy to forget that behind all the fame and riches and overtly blonde beauty, Nicole Kidman is one of the greatest actors on the planet. We’re going to spend the month focusing on four of her best and least appreciated films: Bewitched, Fur: An Imaginary Portrait Of Diane Arbus, Birth & Destroyer.
