S6E45 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 8 Nov 2023. Check out artists featured below to get a flavour of what we played. The South African music was covered with two brand new tracks from Vaughn Prangley and Jackson Colt.
There is a bit of confusion at 43:56 where I thought the mic was off but it wasn't and then turned it off and did the bit again because I didn't know what we had captured. The joys of live radio.
This week's Immortals track was Johnny Was by Stiff Little Fingers and for the Diabolical Challenge we looked at 1968.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! This week is the 5th installment of our series celebrating the gender with the most attitude and pure ferocity. Piss off a man; you can fight it out and then go have a pint at the pub. Piss off a woman, and you will pay for it 10-fold… In this episode, we focus on women that truly rock! Ladies that play loud and heavy with attitude, grit, and that rasp.
What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. These ladies bring it, and you owe to yourself to check them out! We hope we turn you on to something new!

This week we are discussing what the interweb calls the New Wave Of Classic Rock! There have been bands doing the retro-rock thing for years, but this phenomenon seems to be gaining momentum lately and we decided to focus on new-ish bands that have released albums in the last year or so. Indeed, rock n’ roll is not dead and is in the very capable hands of these killer new classics!
What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. The younger generation is picking up guitars and playing that classic blues-inspired hard rock again! This retro rock thing is not quite as new as the interweb is making it out to be, but who cares? It’s a breath of freshly regurgitated air!Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! This week is our fourth in the series celebration of the gender with the most attitude and pure ferocity. Per usual, we focus on women that truly rock! Ladies that play loud and heavy with attitude, grit, and that rasp.

We kicked episode 6 with a track called ‘Burning For You’ a cover of a great track by Blue Öyster Cult, very well done here by Iced Earth. The show then got heavy with Killswitch Engage and Annihilator, with ‘Desperate Times’ and 'Set the World On Fire’ respectively. Both of these fall into the TSORR Songs that could be about South Africa category. Accept and Sinner gave us a taste of German metal and then we had Thundermother out of Sweden. There was a great little SA music segue early in the show where we checked out Jack Hammer Band with a pre-released track called 'As I Turn Away' and then a band out of Sekunda called Pilgrim South. Their new track 'Old Man Moonshine went down well. From there we were into familiar territory with Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Def Leppard. my love affair with Def Leppard's Mutt Lange produced Hi 'N' Dry album continues, we listened to 'Lady Strange'.
Manic Street Preachers and a new-ish band I am not too familiar with called St. Aurora changed the pace a bit and then we started to delve into this week's Ultimate Challenge, 4 albums released in 1980 and you can only choose one. The albums selected were Judas Priest - British Steel, Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell, Motörhead - Ace of Spades, and ACDC - Back in Black. the votes came in but in the end, it was one-way traffic with the winner of this week's Ultimate Challenge going to Back In Black.
The Immortal track was Gun ‘n’ Roses with Estranged and we kept our punk confined to the USA with Iggy Pop, The Distillers, and Weezer. I had some problems with Brody Dalle squashed in the middle. This week I discovered Doomsday Outlaw, this track called ' Is This The End of Everything' features the kind of guitar tone and phrasing that I absolutely love. Talking guitar, a track off the new Winery Dogs with Richie Kotzen, Bily Sheehan, and Mike Portnoy hit the stop. Girish and the Chronicles are just simply blazing, what a band. We ended heavy with Ablaze My Sorrow off their new EP, and Phantom Days by Dark Tranquility. Oh, one last thing TSORR made No 12 on the list of top 35 Rock Podcasts on the planet, check it out right here:

Dan from Disturbed was kind enough to take some time to talk about the upcoming record, working with Anne Wilson, and even his thoughts on social media, and more.
Dorothy was also generous, talking about her latest album, the "spirit" that went into it, hanging with Axl Rose and LOTS more.
Guernica Mancini of Thundermother rounds out today's podcast. She talked about touring with the Scorpions, her influences, Swedish hockey players...sorta, and much, much more.

In this episode, your friendly neighborhood grave robbers travel to another dimension! A universe where modern-day radio plays new rock n’ roll that sounds like the classic 60s, 70s, and 80s hard rock from our world. We are discussing what the interweb calls the New Wave Of Classic Rock! There have been bands doing the retro-rock thing for years, but this phenomenon seems to be gaining momentum… It’s only rock n’ roll, and we like it!

Episode 31 of Season 5 went out live on Rebel Rock radio on 4 August 2022. This show is as unprepared as it gets, let's see what happens. We kicked off with Bad Company and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy, then into Dave Hause off one of my favourite albums of all time titled 'Bury Me In Philly'. The track we played was called ‘The Flinch’. From there we sped it up a bit with ‘Speed Demon’ from Keel, by now I was hating what I had in the playlist and desperately looking for a way out. By request, we took in some of Australia's finest in the form of James Reyne and Cold Chisel with ‘Fall of Rome’ and ‘When the War is Over’ respectively. The Cold Chisel track should cause some piloerection, the first two verses sung by guitarist Ian Moss and then the sheer power of Jimmy Barnes taking over from verse three. I love the way Barnsey does this, standing back and letting someone else have a go just increases the magnificence of his voice. It’s the contrast that does it, and then of course Don Walker on piano.
This week's Rock Review featured Rush and the last track 'The Wreckers' cut off violently due to the time slot allocated so to make amends and also by request we listened to it in its awesome entirety. Things by now were picking up with some very special people tuned in. We checked out a band called Ignite and another called Windowpane, two relatively unknown bands making some awesome music. Next, we popped over to Germany for some Rammstein and some Accept. We checked some new stuff from Alter Bridge off their forthcoming album Pawns and Kings, the track was called 'Silver Tongue' and we also listened to 'Times Like These' off the brand new Five Finger Death Punch release Afterlife. A couple of Alices’ in the form of Alice in Chains and Alice Cooper were followed by classic 80’s metal from Van Halen and ACDC.
We wound it down with four South African bands, starting with a request for Kobus! with Kultuurfeestent and then Jack Hammer, The Black Cat Bones, and L.A. Cobra. The Bones in particular sounded amazing with their cover of Bob Dylan's ‘I Shall be Released. We stayed mellow and wound down this very random show with some Black Stone Cherry off the Kentucky album and Kid Rock with ‘Don’t Quit’ off his latest album released earlier this year titled Bad Reputation.
Artists featured: Bad Company, Dave Hause, Desperado, Keel, Danko Jones, James Reyne, Cold Chisel, Destruction, Thundermother, The Gaslight Anthem, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Rory Gallagher, Ignite, Windowpane, Rammstein, Accept, Alter Bridge, Five Finger Death Punch, Audioslave, Alice in Chains, Alice Cooper, Virgin Steele, ACDC, Van Halen, Candlebox, Kiss, David Bowie, Kobus!, Jack Hammer, The Black Cat Bones, L.A. Cobra, Bruce Dickinson, Black Stone Cherry, Kid Rock

Episode 17 of season 5 aired on 28 April 2022. It seemed to fly by. We started with the one song that is most responsible for The Story of Rock and Roll, 'Detroit Rock City' by Kiss. This song changed my life, once I heard it on an old black and gold Pye cassette tape in about 1978, I was never the same. Next up was another band that had a huge influence on me Led Zeppelin with 'What Is And What Should Never Be'.
We had a bit of commercial rock in the form of Loverboy and Bon Jovi, two excellent bands that have left us a lot of good memories. We gave the ladies a turn in the form of Thundermother out of Sweden and Burning Witches from Switzerland. The South African music phase of the show went into overtime, we had The Black Cat Bones, 12th Avenue, Blue Scream, Dan Patlansky, and my current favorite The Devil's Party Band. This EP titled The Best Album Ever was released last week and it's everything I love, high voltage energetic rock and roll with lots of guitar solos. The whole concept of the Devil's Party Band is wonderful, I wish I had thought of it myself. Well done Anthonie & Chris Van DerWalt, Jason Oosthuiden and Werner Bosman!
For the rest of it, we got heavy with Hellyeah, Machine Head, Mercyful Fate, and Metallica. I made amends to everyone who experienced the brutal cut-over between my Stone Sour Rock Review and the next program on Rebel Rock Radio by playing 'ZZYXY Road' in its entirety. As usual, I ran out of time and the show closed out with My Chemical Romance paying tribute to heavy metal legend Cronos with their track off Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge titled 'Thank You For The Venom. And as always, there were drums.
Artists featured: Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Danzig, Sammy Hagar, Iron Maiden, Loverboy, Bon Jovi, Thundermother, Burning Witches, Bush, Matthew Goode Band, Accept, Counting Crowes, The Black Cat Bones, The Devil’s Party Band, 12th Avenue, Blue Scream, Dan Patlansky, Hellyeah, Machine Head, Joe Bonamassa, Staind, Rush, Mercyful Fate, Metallica, Phil Rudd, Taylor Hawkins, L.A. Rats, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stiff Little Fingers, Steel Panther, Saxon, Halestorm, The Distillers, Stone Sour, The Horrible Crowes, My Chemical Romance

Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Usually, the slower ballads and the prettier mellow songs by rock artists were accompanied by acoustic guitars. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine an up-tempo song with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars!
What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artists that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.

S4E49 aired on 9 Dec 2021 on Rebel Rock Radio. It is probably one of the few episodes that haven't featured heavy hitters such and Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, ACDC, Metallica, or Guns 'n' Roses. So, in that respect, it is quite different. We kicked off with 'Bat Country' from Avenged Sevenfold. It's a track that pays homage to Hunter S. Thompson's essential reading masterpiece Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Then we had a few topical songs such as 'Get Me Out of this Place' by Rose Tattoo and 'Heat Wave' from Thundermother. Buckcherry and Boston bought some party to the proceedings. Hellyeah's cover of the Phil Collins hit 'I Don't Care Anymore' made the point that Covid really needs to move on now, it's time to get on with life.
There were a number of regular TSORR listeners tuned in and I aimed a couple of tunes in their direction, Rory Gallagher, The Jam, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, the brand New Volbeat track Shotgun Blues, and Stone Sour's 'Your God' were all dedicated to people who join me week after week. I am very grateful to you guys. SA music included Koos Kombuis's scathing attack on the SA situation with 'The Fokkol Song', as I pointed out that was recorded in 2010 and things have only got worse :-). Johnathan Martin showed once again that he is the most underrated musician in the country. Johnathan deserves way more success than he has had, his songwriting, singing, and guitar playing are world-class. We also checked out The Color Blew and Jasper Dan.
Highlights of the show for me were the seriously heavy duo provided by Machine Head and Exodus and then the rather subdued ending provided by 8 minutes of Neil Young, a very moving Springsteen track, and 'Backwards Traveler' from Wings' London Town album. the show ended fittingly with 'Out of Time', a 1966 release from The Rolling Stones.
Artists featured: Avenged Sevenfold, Extreme, Ozzy Osbourne, Rose Tattoo, Thundermother, Desperado, Buckcherry, Boston, Seether, Hellyeah, Live, Machine Head, Exodus, Alice Cooper, Hinder, Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet, The Jam, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Volbeat, Black Label Society, Stone Sour, Rory Gallagher, Koos Kombuis, Johnathan Martin, Jasper Dan, The Color Blew, Warrior Soul, Skid Row, Edguy, KK’s Priest, Bruce Springsteen, Wings, The Rolling Stones.
