    Nazis With Guns Demanding Haircuts

    Nazis With Guns Demanding Haircuts

This Week Derek and Corinne do some bad news-bad news. Once Corinne has had enough of that, Derek goes on a rant about the recent proliferation of gun toting far right white dudes storming state capitals.

Finally, for our preparedness portion, we discuss some of the many items beyond toilet paper that flew off the shelves during the start of the US lock down, and what lessons we should learn from that to be more prepared for the inevitable second wave.

    Social Distancing

    Social Distancing

In this Very Special Episode, Jesse and Sheryl reunite for their first walk after the arrival of Coronavirus.  They investigate some of the social distancing questions that have been occupying the neighborhood during this time of crisis, such as: Are heavy-breathing joggers a danger?  How far is six feet apart, anyway?  Is social distance shaming acceptable?  What should people do about their maid service? And how generous are neighbors when it comes to toilet paper?

20200406 Davenport Democracy Depends on Civic Virtue

This is David Davenport of the Hoover Institution for Townhall.com.

Some say authoritarian governments are better able to manage a crisis like coronavirus than a democracy.  But I say, not so fast.

The Founders wisely provided for emergency powers when needed, and both the president and governors have used these.  We have institutions such as the Federal Reserve able to take quick action when needed.

But beyond that, our democracy depends on the virtue of the people.  Benjamin Franklin stated what the founders understood when he said, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.”

The jury is still out on whether people get this.  We still have far too many people, especially young people, out and about, ignoring social distancing.  People are still hoarding sanitizer, masks, and toilet paper.

Yes, we need everything medical science can bring to the table but, more than that, we need the American people to step up their sense of civic virtue.

    I’m David Davenport.

    Intimacy in Isolation #034

    Intimacy in Isolation #034

We are two weeks into COVID-19 quarantine! Most of the time we are doing just great, but teaching kids, working from home and being isolated from most other humans isn't easy. In fact, this concentrated family time makes apparent some cracks in our family and marriage relationships that are often overlooked in the normal busyness of life.

If you are having a similar experience, we have a few ideas for leaning into these challenges and growing more intimate with your spouse and kids. These are especially pertinent during "social distancing," they will work anytime.

    • Setting apart time for the whole family to be together, to ask each other good questions, to listen unselfishly, and for each child to feel "seen."

    • Making time to "date" your spouse even if you can't actually go out.

    • Seeking to know how your spouse truly feels about how things are going
      • Don't be afraid of feelings you can't fix.
      • Don't be afraid of negative feelings that are "your fault."
      • Be with each other.
    • Embracing complexity in relationship, letting go of control, and sitting in uncertainty.

The Stat of the Week seems a little high to us, but you be the judge: how many rolls of toilet paper does the average family use in a year?

We truly appreciate you listening! Please take a minute to share this episode with a friend who might be encouraged by this conversation or who just needs a good laugh at our expense.

Kim, People Are Dying... (The Coronavirus Episode)

Y’all really thought I contracted COVID-19 huh? I’m back! This week I discuss the hysteria surrounding the coronavirus and how it’s been affecting the world. How have y’all been spending your quarantine time? In times like these, what’s important to you?

I also discuss the idea of artists making “white” music. What does that exactly mean? Why are black artists forced into a box creatively.

I hope this episode finds you well! These past few days have been hard for everyone but I hope this episode brings you some joy and laughter.

    First Guest! - Kenzie

    First Guest! - Kenzie
My guest Kenzie and I talk about the interesting junior year of high school she's had. I also prosecute, convict, and sentence her to death for crimes we still have not established. We had lots of fun and we force you to endure some inside jokes but mostly outside jokes. Not featured on the podcast, because it happened during the intro music, we danced and *vibed* in our seats to loosen up. She makes fun of my lack of professionalism and crude podcast equipment manangement and tries to distract me by using weird words like 'swag' as if I've never heard them before. We love each other very much, too. (story: the image displayed for the podcast is her doodle of me and her while sitting at church one sunday. I said, "that looks cool. I know that's you, but who's the guy?". She said, "oh, that's if you were thin and a hipster with better hair.") BIG THANK YOU to our non-sponsor of the week, "Toilet Paper", because without it we'd be in a very messy situation. Also a big kudos to anyone who had stock in toilet paper 2 months ago and had that "I just KNOW this investment will come in handy one day" feeling. Well, now we all wish we were you...

Survived - Finding the Good in COVID-19

Survived - Finding the Good in COVID-19

Doug starts out practicing social distancing alone in the studio to discuss what to do during COVID-19. Turning to the old school way of staying at home with friends and family and using basic cleaning philosophies of washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough. Chris arrives to add to the discussion of taking care of yourself and love your family. The well balanced conversation and time to reflect of what to do next helps add some distraction to being stuck in the house with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. COVID-19 is not the end but a good beginning to resetting and focusing on what matters.
