Episode 204: Running a Business Teaches You to Control What You Can

In this episode, I sit down with Beatrice Dixon. Bea is the Co-Founder, CEO, Chief Innovation Officer and face of the Honey Pot Company. She wears many hats. Honey Pot Company is a vagina and human wellness brand that focuses to destigmatize how people talk about them. This is an extremely special episode for me because I met Bea in 2015 as a buyer over sanitary protection at Target. I brought the brand in at Target and love to see how much the brand has grown.

This episode gets personal, we know that business is one hat that founders wear but we are people too. We might be running a business but have other things happening in life. These are part of the challenges that founders overcome. I hope you enjoy this episode as we talk keys to growth, and also personal points of wisdom.

Vagina Town with Pelvic Health Physical Therapist, Dr. Gopi Pillai

**Adult Content, NOT for little EARS!**

Continuing on in the theme of 'Enough...' The Two Jess(es) have had ENOUGH of several things, just to name a few: tinkling when they sneeze, peeing themselves when they laugh too hard, having to pee more than 14 times a day and the perpetual dryness, 'down there.'
    ENOUGH already!

Dr. Gopi takes this episode to a whole new level with an in-depth visit to 'Vagina Town.' She explains then ins and outs (pun intended!) of the often overlooked importance of pelvic health, details the signs and symptoms that could be a result of problems with the pelvis, and well, just has a lot of fun talking about it all. In her words: 'her job is to help people enjoy sex again!' And she LOVES it!

TTJ(es) have a lot of fun with this incredibly informative conversation. Even if the word Vagina, (and dicks) makes you uncomfortable,  stick with it- and take a ride to Vagina Town with Dr. Gopi- there is help out there for us all!

    Meet Dr. Gopi!

Gopi was born and raised in New York and graduated from Stony Brook University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2003 at which time her interest in Women's Health began. She eventually moved to Brooklyn, where she started the first Women's Health PT program at a major hospital. Gopi went on to open a private practice in Brooklyn, specializing in male and female pelvic health for 8 years until her family life brought her to Northern Virginia.

She started Blueprint Physical Therapy in January of 2019 and has loved getting to know her new surroundings while providing in home visits around DC, Maryland and Virginia. She is dedicated to continuing education and is a teacher, teaching assistant and lecturer for providers of many disciplines and for the community. She's also a wife and mom of a 4 and 5 year old and just added a pandemic puppy to her family.

Chapter 41: Jen Gunter on beating bullying, bigotry, and body bashfulness

Chapter 41: Jen Gunter on beating bullying, bigotry, and body bashfulness

3 Books is a completely insane and totally epic 15-year-long quest to uncover the 1000 most formative books in the world. Each chapter is hosted live and in-person at the guest's preferred location by Neil Pasricha, New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Awesome and The Happiness Equation. Each chapter of 3 Books uncovers and discusses the three most formative books from one of the world's most inspiring people. Sample guests include: Judy Blume, David Sedaris, Chris Anderson of TED, and the world's greatest Uber driver. Each of the 333 chapters is dropped on the exact minute of every new moon and full moon until September 1, 2031. 3 Books is an Apple "Best Of" award-winning show as well as the world's only podcast by and for book lovers, writers, makers, sellers... and librarians. For more info check out: www.3books.co

Dr. Jen Gunter is a Canadian-American OB/GYN and a pain medicine physician. Jen is commonly referred to as Twitter’s resident gynecologist, the Internet’s OB/GYN, and is one of the fiercest advocates for women’s health. Jen writes the New York Times columns "The Cycle" and "You Asked Jen Gunter." She hosts the popular TV show Jensplaining and she has written the bestselling books "The Preemie Primer" and "The Vagina Bible."

    Chapter Description:

    Question for you.

Let’s say you were scheduled to give birth to triplets, but they arrived prematurely, and one of them died during birth at the hospital …

In that painful situation, what would you do?

    You’d search for answers!

    You’d ask questions!

And if you’re Dr. Jen Gunter, you would recognize that, even to a doctor, the answers were confusing, misleading, and sometimes contradictory. So what did she do? Well, Jen wrote an entire book on premature babies called the The Preemie Primer. The book became popular and helped Jen develop a massive following to the point where she’s known today as Twitter’s OB/GYN.

    Why?

Because she’s not afraid to give people the cold, hard truth.

Today Jen hosts the TV show Jensplaining and writes not one but two New York Times columns!

Jen recently wrote another book called The Vagina Bible which took off and has been climbing bestsellers lists.

Due to the success of her books Jen is often on promotion tours so I was able to catch up with her at the PenguinRandomHouse offices in Toronto when she came through town for TV shows and to give speeches.

Jen and I discuss how medicine became rooted in mansplaining, how to teach kids sex ed, and of course, her three most formative books.

    Let’s go!

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

    • How do we break the cycle of “those who get bullied become bullies?”

    • How did Dr. Jen Gunter become known as Twitter’s OB/GYN?

    • How should parents teach their children sex ed?

    • How is the stigma surrounding STIs impacting rates of transmission and treatment?

    • When is shame a wasted emotion and when is it an appropriate emotion?

    • What are the key ingredients for good sex?
