The Kim Crawford Illuminate Sauvignon Blanc is only 70 calories per serving and is a low alcohol wine. Wines To Find, Ep 147: Winemaker's Cut Wines & Music in the Vineyard

Wines To Find, Ep 147: Winemaker's Cut Wines & Music in the Vineyard

Wines:  2021 Winemakers Cut Grüner Veltliner and a 2020 Winemaker’s Cut Bohemian Pinot Noir.

Our guest today is Michal Mosny, the winemaker and proprietor of Winemaker's Cut. We learned a little about Michal and his wines when VJ Ghandi of Kascadia Wine Merchants joined us a few episodes ago to talk about wines from Canada.

Michal  has a very unique approach - he plays classical music to his grapes - listen to hear the story behind this, and more from his thoughts on growing grapes and winemaking.

From his early interest in winemaking in his home country of Slovakia, to the decision to move his family to the Okanagan Valley in Canada, to his connection to a certain wine loving actor that played a twin on that 90's show, Beverly Hills 90210, Michal's story is not only fascinating but very fun to hear.

Listen today to learn more about the Okanagan Valley, Canadian Wines and Michal Mosny of Winemaker's Cut.

Wines: Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, 2018 & Michele Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin, 2019

Author of The Wine Bible, Karen MacNeil, joins us to share her wine story and news of the third edition of The Wine Bible. We discuss what changes from each edition of the book, why its necessary to keep updating The Wine Bible to evolve with the changing world of wine and what wines Karen herself drinks on a frequent basis.

We taste a Chateau Montelena, 2018 as this winery is credited with helping to elevate California wines on an international level when their Chardonnay submission to the Judgement of Paris was announced a winner in 1976. The red, Michele Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin, is an old world Pinot Noir, which fit the bill for classic reds.

Listen to hear what we thought of each of these wines and to learn more about Karen MacNeil and The Wine Bible, 3rd edition .

Wines To Find, Ep 143: Halloween Candy & Wine Pairings

Wines: Kirkland Prosecco, 19 Crimes Cali Rosé, Apothic Merlot, RB Cellars Lyric of the Vine Cabernet Sauvignon

Halloween Season kicks off Holiday Season - time for gathering and eating! Sometime about mid-August/early September, the decorations start appearing, then the candy on store aisles and right about that time is when the infographic charts pairing wine with Halloween candy start appearing all over social media.

Of course, we HAD to give it a try! Whether it's Wine Folly, Wine Enthusiast's or some other chart, most will give an array of candies pictured along with varietals that are best with each. So, we gathered our four wines and TONS of candy (and some popcorn for that little bit of salty) and got to tasting.

Listen to learn our favorite pairing and our suggestions on how to host your very own Halloween Candy & Wine Pairing Event!

Wines To Find, Ep 140: 2RedWines Supporting Prostate Cancer Research

Wines To Find, Ep 140: 2RedWines Supporting Prostate Cancer Research

    Wines: 2015 Zinpiphany and  2012 #2red
Guest: Dr. Robert Hollander, Winemaker 2 RedWinery

Our Guest is Dr. Robert Hollander. Bob is the President of the Robert and Susan Hollander Foundation. He is a retired hospitalist and clinician and  a member of the Department of Medicine with the University of Florida and the winemaker for 2 Red Winery.

Bob is here to discuss these two wines with us as well as the cause they support: which is prostate cancer research. As one of the most common cancers in men, it’s estimated there are about 268,490 new diagnoses annually and about 35,000 deaths. We appreciate the work Dr. Bob has done in this field and enjoyed our conversation with him.

From his early days of wine enthusiasm, to his turn to wine making, to his devastating diagnosis of prostate cancer, this conversation twists and turns its way through a roller coaster of emotion - Bob's touching testimony and dedication to supporting prostate cancer research is reason enough to listen - paired with these two wines and their stories definitely makes it a must listen!

Wines To Find, Ep 139: Bordeaux, A Value Region?

    Wines: 2014 & 2015 Segla Margaux & 2009 Chateau Gazin.

Our guest today is a retired anesthesiologist whose lifelong love of wine led him to earn his Level 3 WSET certificate. In addition to a passion for wine and knowledge, Steve has a love for wines from Bordeaux, France.

We discuss why Bordeaux wines have been his go-to - from buying futures to wine meant for consumption vs collection and how to source both.

This in-depth discussion runs the gamut of wine enthusiasm - from the different levels of knowledge and certification to finding values in one of the most expensive growing regions in the world, it's definitely a must listen for wine lovers interested in learning more about wine appreciation and acquisition.

As we talk, we taste through three different Bordeaux wines - two that are excellent examples of left vs. right bank, as well as one that is very similar to a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon - listen to learn which is which and our thoughts on all three!

Wines To Find, Ep 138: On Visiting (& Revisiting) Napa Valley / Napa Valley Favorites

Wines To Find, Ep 138: On Visiting (& Revisiting) Napa Valley / Napa Valley Favorites

WINES: 2014 Anthem Cabernet Sauvignon & 2001 Chateau Boswell Cole Wood River Reserve

Guests Mandy and Mark Ackerman join us to discuss their life long love affair with all things Napa Valley. Having visited Napa regularly over the last 20 years, Mark and Mandy have witnessed the exponential growth of Napa over the years both in wine production and as a tourist destination.

From the early days of their visits which were on the cusp of the Napa Valley boom to today, we discuss what's changed, what's the same and what keeps them going back every year.

We each brought a bottle to highlight - we selected the Anthem Cabernet Sauvignon as it's an excellent example of all things we love about Napa Valley wines - mountain fruit, small producer, and excellent quality.  Mark and Mandy brought the Chateau Boswell as it was purchased as a momento of one of their first trips - their memory of their first visit to Chateau Boswell is an example of  Napa Valley's hospitality - listen to hear more of that story and our thoughts on these two wines.

Wines To Find, Ep 135: More Costco Wines

Wines:  2020 Charles Debourges Sancerre and 2018 Villa Antinori Toscana

Both of these wines were purchased at Costco.  Last year, we did a four episode series on wines from Costco and Trader Joe’s in which we tried several of the Kirkland (Costco’s Brand) wines and popular wines sold at Trader Joes.

Since then, we’ve bought several wines from both Costco and Trader Joes.

We thought we’d revisit the topic, sharing these two wines we have never had before while also letting you know of some “honorable mentions” or great finds we’ve made over the last year.

Wines To Find, Ep 133: Greek Wines

Wines: Monograph Azyotiko Assyrtiko & 2019 Domaine Glinavos Paleokerisio

We are traveling to Greece today - if only with our wine selection!

Both of these wines are from Greece - we talk a little bit about the wines of Greece, the indigenous grapes and the style and characteristics of Greek wines.

During summer months, we are always on the hunt for light, refreshing wines that pair well with the lighter fare necessary on hot summer days.

Our exploration of Greek wines yielded these two wines - one of which is an orange, pet nat style sparkler that we HAD to try. Listen to hear all about this unique wine and more!

Wines To Find, Ep 132: If You Love Riesling Try These Wines.

Wines: 2020 Willm Reserve Pinot Blanc and  2019 Arthur Metz Gewürztraminer

Continuing in our "if you like this, try that" series, we have some varietals Riesling lovers should try: Pinot Blanc and Gewürztraminer.

Both these wines come from the Alsace region of France, so we dig into some of the history, wine-making style and soil composition of the area as well as giving information on the flavor profile of wines typically made from the Pinot Blanc and Gewürztraminer grape.

If you're looking to branch out from your tried and true bottle of Riesling or if you're just looking to learn a little about these grapes or if you just love listening to us talk wine, this is your ep! Listen today!

Wines To Find, Ep 130: If You Like Chardonnay Try These Wines

Wines To Find, Ep 130: If You Like Chardonnay Try These Wines

Wines: 2021 Lepiga Soave and 2019 Aurélien Chatagnier Condrieu

Last week we shared some alternatives to Sauvignon Blanc. Continuing the theme this week, we are tastings varietals suggested for Chardonnay lovers looking to try a different grape.

We selected each of these because they are 100% of the grape varietal suggested as excellent alternatives to wine made from the Chardonnay grape. The Lepiga Soave is 100% Garganega and the Aurélien Chatagnier Condrieu is 100% Viognier.

You may wonder why the label doesn't say that right on the front? We talk about that, the growing areas of these wines and more as we taste and rate these two wines - check it out!
