The Rise of Workflow Automation: The ServiceNow Agency Opportunity in the Enterprise

The Rise of Workflow Automation: The ServiceNow Agency Opportunity in the Enterprise

The shift towards low-code platforms like ServiceNow has changed the landscape for service agencies, requiring them to adapt their approach and focus on specific solutions. Phillip and Brian sit down with friend and mentor Jon Klonsky to discuss his new venture, which will specialize in implementing and rescuing failed implementations of the ServiceNow platform.

“Measure twice, cut once, and test often”

    • {00:12:55} “Only organic growth, as opposed to purchased growth, can be a better line to run so that you don't get ahead of your skis.” - Brian
    • {00:13:59} - “So many people, especially if you talk to the investor community, are like, "eCommerce is done. Let's move on to the next thing. AI," which is also important. I don't wanna take away from that, but I think eCommerce is still growing and probably gonna continue to grow and change and do incredible things, and we're just at the tip of the iceberg now with some of the new technologies that are coming into the space.” - Jon
    • {00:19:47} - “You have to have a strategy that you can stick to and sustain because, you know you're going to build a team in a culture that has to be simplified for them. I think you have to be really smart and definitive about what you're gonna be doing.” - Jon
    • {00:37:25} - “A strength is knowing when to spend your first few dollars. We know to be patient and not get ahead of {our} skis. ” - Jon
    • {00:48:55} “It is about focus, but my focus to start is gonna be on the solution and the technology. I'm casting a wider net across some verticals because, frankly, I don't know where all the business is gonna come from yet. So cast a wider net and then I will start to narrow or we will start to narrow as we evolve as a company.” - Jon
    • {00:50:36} - “I've learned mostly through my failures, but I now think that that's a strength of mine. Being able to hire and retain great teams.” - Jon

    Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

    Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a technology that uses software robots or bots to automate repetitive and rule-based tasks typically performed by humans in various business processes. RPA enables organizations to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and reduce human errors by automating mundane and time-consuming tasks. It does this by imitating human interactions with digital systems, such as computer software and applications, to execute tasks and manipulate data.

Key characteristics and components of Robotic Process Automation include:

    1. Software Robots/Bots: RPA employs software robots or bots that are programmed to interact with software applications, websites, and systems in the same way humans do. These bots can mimic mouse clicks, keyboard inputs, data entry, and other user actions.
    2. Rule-Based Automation: RPA is best suited for tasks that follow explicit rules and procedures. The bots execute tasks based on predefined rules and instructions, making it ideal for repetitive and structured processes.
    3. User Interface Interaction: RPA bots interact with the user interface of applications rather than relying on direct access to databases or APIs. This makes RPA flexible and easily deployable across various software systems without the need for significant integration efforts.
    4. Non-Invasive Integration: RPA can work with existing IT infrastructure without requiring major changes or disrupting underlying systems. It can integrate with legacy systems and modern applications alike.
    5. Scalability: RPA allows organizations to scale automation quickly and efficiently. They can deploy multiple bots to handle a large volume of tasks simultaneously, increasing productivity.
    6. Data Handling: RPA bots can read and process structured and semi-structured data, enabling them to handle tasks that involve data entry, validation, and extraction.
    7. Event-Driven Automation: While RPA primarily executes tasks in response to predefined triggers, advanced RPA systems can also be event-driven, responding to real-time data or external events.

RPA finds applications in various industries and business processes, including:

    • Data Entry and Validation: RPA can automate data entry tasks, ensuring accuracy and reducing manual effort.
    • Finance and Accounting: RPA can automate tasks like invoice processing, accounts reconciliation, and financial reporting.
    • HR and Employee Onboarding: RPA can handle repetitive HR tasks like employee onboarding, payroll processing, and benefits administration.
    • Customer Service: RPA can assist in handling customer inquiries, generating responses, and updating customer information.
    • Supply Chain and Inventory Management: RPA can automate order processing, inventory management, and tracking shipments.

It's important to note that while RPA is powerful for automating repetitive tasks, it is not suited for tasks requiring complex decision-making or those involving unstructured data. For more advanced automation needs, organizations may integrate RPA with other AI technologies like Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) to create intelligent automation solutions.

How to Make Martech Work For Your Team with Scott Brinker of HubSpot

How to Make Martech Work For Your Team with Scott Brinker of HubSpot

Scott Brinker, known as the “godfather of martech” and currently VP Platform Ecosystem at HubSpot, talks to Eric about everything marketing technology from how to stay on top of it all to how best to implement changes in your organization.

Scott explains that the No Code movement represents a fundamental shift towards empowerment of business users and marketers. It’s not just about letting people build software applications without having to code them, it’s about allowing the average person to self-service their ideas.

And while culture change and adoption of new technologies and workflows are necessary, it inevitably requires a huge investment. Scott’s tips for success include:

    1. Make sure you’re allocating the space in people’s responsibilities to learn new tools, technologies and approaches
    2. Once you have the tools and people know how to use them, you have to make sure from a process re-engineering perspective, you actually look at how people will use these new tools and determine where the constraints are and work to see how to overcome those constraints working collaboratively with the new technology and getting things done.

While Scott admits the world of marketing technology is too large to stay on top of at this point, he also lets us know how he does his best.
