The theme for the competition was "Keep It Alive," which inspired Fem Android to create a collaborative website instead of a traditional game, allowing users to work together to keep something alive. This event showcased Fem Android's creativity, passion for game development, and ability to adapt to challenging circumstances. Despite the pandemic and personal challenges, she found a way to engage in her hobby and contribute to the gaming community. • A website designed to self-destruct after 24 hours unexpectedly sparks deep connectionsUnexpected digital interactions can lead to profound human connections and the creation of meaningful communities

The fleeting nature of digital connections can lead to unexpected and profound interactions. In this case, a website designed to self-destruct after 24 hours without receiving a message received an overwhelming response from users, who shared personal messages anonymously. The website's creator, Fem Android, was surprised by the emotional depth of the messages and the community that formed around the site. Despite the website's intended ephemerality, it became a space for people to express themselves honestly and connect with others in a meaningful way. The experience highlights the power of digital platforms to facilitate human connection and the potential for unexpected outcomes when we create spaces for vulnerability and authenticity.

    • Anonymity on the internet can lead to harmful behaviorAnonymity on the internet can result in hateful and harmful messages, emphasizing the need for moderation and accountability to prevent such behavior.

Anonymity on the internet can lead to harmful and hateful behavior. Fem Android built a website using a free server and it quickly gained popularity on a subreddit. However, the lack of authentication and moderation turned the site into a trolling paradise. Thousands of posts per second flooded the site, ranging from harmless pranks to racist, neo-Nazi, and transphobic messages. Fem Android was overwhelmed and deeply affected by the personal and hateful messages, especially since she was transitioning and had the support of her friends and family. Despite her efforts to block hateful content, the trolls found ways around it. The experience left Fem Android feeling insecure and vulnerable, highlighting the weight of hateful messages, especially when they come from people we care about. This incident underscores the importance of moderation and accountability on the internet to prevent such harmful behavior.

    • Unexpected challenges and potential risks of online presenceBe aware of the unpredictability of the internet and its potential risks, even with a simple online presence. Prepare for potential investigations and clarify your online activities.

Creating and managing an online presence comes with unexpected challenges and potential risks. In the discussed scenario, Fem Android's simple website became the platform for a threatening message, leading to a police investigation. Initially, the authorities were skeptical, assuming it was just another tip. However, when Fem Android revealed she was the website creator, they were taken aback. It's crucial to understand that even with the best intentions, the internet can be unpredictable. In this instance, Fem Android had to explain the situation to the authorities, clarifying that she didn't store personal information or run a large platform like Reddit. It's essential to be prepared for such situations and have a clear understanding of your online presence and its implications.

    • The internet's duality: threats and support on will self destruct.comThe internet can be a dangerous place with threats and trolls, but it also has the power to bring people together and create meaningful connections, transcending boundaries.

The internet can be both a dangerous and supportive place. Fem Android's experience on her website, will self destruct.com, highlights this duality. After facing threats and trolls, the site was later filled with messages of support and understanding from users. The random and emotional posts provided a unique connection between people, transcending language and geographical boundaries. However, the experience left Fem Android feeling relieved but also contemplating the future of the site. Despite the challenges, the unexpected community that formed on the site brought hope and connection to many, reminding us of the potential power of the internet for good. The incident also underscored the importance of taking online threats seriously and the role of law enforcement in maintaining online safety.

    • Finding comfort in anonymous online communities during emotional strugglesOnline anonymity can offer a safe space for individuals to express emotions and cope with mental health struggles, but it's important to recognize potential risks and seek professional help when needed.

Anonymous online platforms, such as the website discussed, can provide a safe space for individuals to express their deepest emotions and struggles. Seamus, a user of this website, shared his experience of using it as a makeshift therapist during a difficult period in his life when he was dealing with the loss of his job and a breakup. He found comfort in the anonymity and the community, but acknowledged the potential risks of seeking out content related to suicidal thoughts. Seamus eventually recognized the severity of his situation and sought professional help. The website's creators responded by adding a "feeling down" button to direct users towards resources and help lines. This discussion highlights the importance of creating safe and supportive online spaces, and the potential role they can play in helping individuals cope with their emotions and mental health struggles.

    • Online communities provide hope and connection during challenging timesOnline communities offer a space for emotional expression and connection, reminding us of the importance of kindness and empathy during difficult times. Documenting experiences can serve as a reminder of our existence.

During challenging times, online communities can provide a space for people to express their emotions and connect with one another. The pandemic has made everyone question their circumstances and feelings, leading to an increased sense of presence and reality. For the administrator of a popular online forum, the messages exchanged have brought her hope and reminded her of the importance of kindness and empathy. The pandemic has also led people to find connections through shared experiences and feelings, as seen in the UK where people turned to social media to express their feelings about the situation. However, the immense loss and suffering caused by the pandemic can be difficult to make sense of, leaving some feeling angry and helpless. Despite the lack of meaning in the face of such loss, the simple act of documenting our experiences can serve as a reminder of our existence.
