    • Making mental health a daily priorityQuality relationships impact mental health, surround yourself with positivity, seek help if needed

Mental health is not something to be addressed only on special days, but rather an everyday priority. Laurie Gottlieb, a renowned psychiatrist and author, emphasizes this perspective. With a career dedicated to emotional health and relationship therapy, she advocates for making therapy accessible to everyone. According to Laurie, the quality of our relationships significantly impacts our mental health. Surrounding ourselves with negative people can lead to contagious moods and a gradual transition into negative thinking patterns. It's essential to be aware of the people in our lives and the impact they have on us. If you're surrounded by negativity, consider seeking help from a therapist to navigate these relationships and learn healthier coping mechanisms. Remember, mental health matters every day.

    • Surrounding Ourselves with Positivity and Making a DifferenceSurround yourself with positivity and action-oriented people, protect yourself from negative influences, and focus on solutions to make a positive impact.

Taking care of our emotional health and making a difference in the world go hand in hand. Surrounding ourselves with positive, action-oriented people motivates us to improve ourselves and make a positive impact. However, it's important to be intentional about the people we allow in our lives. If we're stuck with negative individuals, we have the power to change the conversation or remove ourselves respectfully. Negative interactions can harm our psychological well-being, so it's crucial to protect ourselves from toxic influences. Remember, we always have choices, even when it feels like we don't. By focusing on solutions and positive actions, we can create a healthier, more fulfilling environment for ourselves and those around us.

    • The power of self-talk and its impact on mental healthBe aware of internal dialogue, challenge negative thoughts, recognize its power, seek help when needed for mental health

We often overlook the significance of our internal dialogue and the impact it has on our mental health. The voice inside our heads can be more toxic than external negativity, and we're often our own harshest critics. We talk to ourselves more than we talk to anyone else, and yet we allow ourselves to be unkind and untrue. It's essential to be aware of this internal dialogue and challenge the negative thoughts. When mental health is concerned, it's not just about specific days or weeks; it's an ongoing process. Recognize the power of self-talk and remember that the voice in your head is not always accurate or truthful. If something feels off emotionally, don't hesitate to seek help, just as you would for physical ailments. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and there's no shame in seeking professional help when needed.

    • Neglecting Emotional Health Can Lead to Unnecessary SufferingRecognize the importance of emotional health, seek help when needed, and create an affordable summer escape at home to boost well-being. Trust your gut but consider supplements for added support.

People often overlook the importance of addressing their emotional health until they reach a crisis point. Just as ignoring physical symptoms like a broken arm can lead to more significant problems, neglecting emotional health can cause unnecessary suffering. It's crucial to recognize that seeking help for emotional issues is a sign of strength, not weakness. Additionally, the summer season doesn't have to be a financial burden. Companies like IKEA offer affordable solutions for creating a summer escape at home. Lastly, trusting your gut isn't always reliable, but supplements like Ritual's Symbiotic Plus can provide support for gut health. Remember, taking care of yourself, emotionally and physically, is essential for the well-being of those around you.

    • Misconceptions about mental health and seeking helpSuccessful people use therapy, mental health issues are real and require care, find the right therapist for trust and authenticity, education and open dialogue can challenge stigmas

Mental health is just as real and important as physical health, and seeking help for mental health issues should not be stigmatized. People's misconceptions about mental health often stem from lack of education and open discussion. Successful individuals, even celebrities, have shown that therapy is a valuable tool for managing mental health. Depression, anxiety, grief, and loss are real experiences that require attention and care, much like how diabetes requires insulin. Finding the right therapist is crucial, as it's a relationship based on trust and authenticity. Don't let others' opinions deter you from getting help when you need it. Education and open dialogue can help challenge stigmas and normalize seeking mental health support.

    • Finding the Right Therapist: Trusted Referrals and InstinctsSeek referrals, use online resources, trust instincts, communicate openly, and remember it's an investment in mental health and growth.

Finding the right therapist is a personal and important process. Ask trusted friends for referrals, and use online resources like Psychology Today. During your first session, trust your instincts and assess if you feel understood and comfortable with the therapist. Remember, it may take a few sessions to determine if it's the right fit. If it's not, communicate openly with the therapist and consider their suggestions for other professionals. Seeking therapy is not a sign of failure, but rather an investment in your mental health and personal growth. Sharing mental health journeys and experiences can also help reduce stigma and encourage others to seek help.

    • Seeking therapy for mental well-beingTherapy provides valuable insights and perspectives, promoting mental well-being, and is accessible to all.

Therapy is not just for those experiencing significant challenges in life, but rather a proactive step towards maintaining mental well-being. Therapy offers a unique perspective and insight, allowing individuals to gain a better understanding of their patterns and blind spots. Just as we seek second opinions in other areas of life, therapy provides an opportunity to gain valuable insights from an objective and compassionate external perspective. Additionally, summer doesn't have to be an expensive and fleeting season. With affordable options from companies like IKEA, creating a comfortable and inviting outdoor space is accessible to all. Lastly, the importance of self-care and wellness extends beyond physical health. Herbs, such as Ashwagandha, can provide significant benefits for both body and mind, making them valuable additions to any wellness routine.

    • Exploring Couples Therapy Benefits for One PartnerTherapy can improve communication, understanding, and appreciation in couples, even when only one partner is initially interested. It's a safe space to learn new ways to navigate challenges and foster gratitude, kindness, and generosity.

Therapy can be beneficial for couples, even when only one partner is initially interested. The fear of discovering issues in the relationship is often unfounded, as therapy can lead to stronger communication, understanding, and appreciation between partners. It's a safe space to learn new ways to navigate challenges and foster gratitude, kindness, and generosity. When considering therapy, it's essential to clarify personal goals and expectations. Therapy is not just for couples on the verge of separation, but also for those seeking to strengthen their bond and grow together.

    • Communication and vulnerability in relationshipsEffective communication and vulnerability are essential for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Practice self-kindness, especially during moments of self-criticism, to improve mental wellbeing.

Effective communication and vulnerability are crucial for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Many people struggle with discussing difficult topics like money, in-laws, and responsibilities. Instead of avoiding these conversations, it's essential to approach them from a place of strength and support. Pretending that problems don't exist can lead to years of misery. Instead, addressing the truth between partners, even if it's painful, can lead to growth and improvement. Laurie's one tip for mental health is to practice self-kindness, especially during moments of self-criticism. Instead of focusing on what we haven't done or what we've failed at, we should acknowledge and appreciate the good things we've accomplished. Even if the only good thing is being kind to ourselves, it's still an essential accomplishment. In conclusion, communication, vulnerability, and self-kindness are vital components of healthy relationships and mental wellbeing. By practicing these skills, we can build stronger connections and improve our overall quality of life.

Do You Compare Yourself or Your Relationship to Others? 5 Surprising Ways to Stop Letting Comparison Steal Your Happiness

Do You Compare Yourself or Your Relationship to Others? 5 Surprising Ways to Stop Letting Comparison Steal Your Happiness

Do you compare your relationship to others?

How can you identify and manage your triggers for comparison?

Today, Jay introduces the concept of social comparison theory, explaining the differences between upward - where we compare ourselves to those we perceive as better off, can lead to feelings of inadequacy if done with envy rather than a mindset of learning, and downward comparisons which involves comparing ourselves to those worse off, which can provide a temporary boost in self-esteem but is ultimately unproductive and unkind.

He shares practical strategies for reducing comparison, such as being mindful of social media usage, identifying personal triggers, and investing in self-improvement. Jay also stresses the importance of understanding the deeper, often hidden aspects of people's lives and why we usually compare our internal struggles with others' external successes, leading to a distorted and unfair self-assessment.

    In the episode, you'll learn:

    How to identify your goals

    How to set mutual goals

How to be mindful of your triggers

    How to invest in self-improvement

By seeking deeper connections and understanding the full context of others' lives, we can develop more empathy and reduce the impulse to compare and shift our focus from external comparisons to internal growth and relational strength, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

7 Habits to Be Present When Everything Feels Like It’s Moving Too Quickly (Busy People Listen Now)

7 Habits to Be Present When Everything Feels Like It’s Moving Too Quickly (Busy People Listen Now)

How can you recognize when you need to slow down?

And what are the benefits of slowing down in everyday life?

Today, Jay addresses the growing concern about how to slow down in our fast-paced world. Many of us feel like time is flying by, and Jay offers practical tips to help us feel more present and in control.

Jay recommends connecting with ourselves, looking at our schedule, and reaching out to loved ones. By waking up 20 minutes earlier than needed, this small change can set a calm tone for the day. And there is power in silence and spending time in nature. Silence helps reduce our brain's cognitive load, and being in nature makes us feel more present and less rushed.

Throughout the episode, Jay provides easy-to-follow advice to help us slow down and enjoy life more fully, reminding us that slowing down is about being more present, not doing less.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    How to slow down time

How to change your daily habits

How to plan for your day

These small changes can make a big difference in how you experience time. Remember, there's more to life than increasing its speed. Let's slow down together and savor every moment.

    With Love and Gratitude,

    Jay Shetty

57:Heal Relationship Disconnects w/Third Layer Conversations

57:Heal Relationship Disconnects w/Third Layer Conversations
We all know that the key to any long-lasting healthy relationship is good communication. But yet, time and time again, communication breakdowns are at the center of why people struggle to feel happy and fulfilled in their relationships. What makes this even more puzzling is that most of us believe we are great communicators. Often when couples have a relationship breakdown, they get stuck on trying to be right instead of trying to get the right outcome. While there are several factors that contribute to the success of any relationship, communication skills – or lack thereof – can either help or hinder one’s prospects. On today's show, I will share a relationship communication tool called “third layer conversations” to help you improve communication and restore disconnects in your relationship.

    You will learn:
1.How to use the cycle of connection, disconnection, and reconnection to language communication breakdowns.
    2. How to use the third layer conversation process to smoothly move through relationship challenges.
    3. The four ingredients that need to be present for healthy, productive communication to occur.
