Letting go of things beyond our control: Focusing on what we can control and letting go of unchangeable situations frees up mental energy to create the future we desire
Letting go of things in the present that are beyond our control can help us focus on creating the future we desire. I'm Rob Dial, host of the MWF Motivation Podcast, and in episode 32, I discussed the importance of releasing past regrets. In this episode, I want to talk about letting go of things in the present that we cannot change. I've been told that I'm too calm in the face of adversity, and I'll share a personal example. A few years ago, someone stole my TV from my office while I was in a meeting. Instead of getting upset or dwelling on the situation, I let it go and focused on the things I could control. The MWF Motivation Podcast, available on iTunes, Stitcher, and SoundCloud, is designed to help you grow into the best version of yourself in just 10 to 20 minutes, three days a week. By letting go of things we cannot change, we free up mental energy to focus on what we can control and create the future we truly desire.
Accepting things out of our control: Focus on the solution instead of the stress to improve overall happiness and well-being when dealing with uncontrollable situations
We should practice accepting things that are out of our control and not let them cause unnecessary stress in our lives. Using the example of losing a TV, the speaker learned the concept of "can't change it" from Hal Elrod. This means recognizing that sometimes things happen that we can't control, like someone stealing our TV or getting stuck in traffic. Instead of getting angry and stressed, we should focus on the fact that we'll eventually be able to replace the TV or find an alternative route for the traffic. By letting go of the stress and focusing on the solution, we can improve our overall happiness and well-being. This concept can be applied to any negative situation that is out of our control.
Control our attitude and mood despite external circumstances: We can't control traffic or external situations, but we can control our reactions and shift our mood with calming activities or favorite songs.
Despite external circumstances beyond our control, such as being stuck in traffic, we have the power to control our attitude and mood. The traffic itself cannot be changed, but how we react to it can. By choosing to remain calm and focus on the little details around us, we can transform a potentially stressful situation into a relaxing one. Having a go-to relaxing song or favorite calming activity can help shift our mood when needed. Ultimately, it's essential to remember that our internal reactions are within our control, and external circumstances should not dictate our moods.
Appreciate temporary inconveniences and privilege: Recognize temporary nature of problems and appreciate privileges for a more fulfilling life
Maintaining a perspective of gratitude and understanding the relative nature of our problems can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being. When faced with minor inconveniences or frustrations, such as being stuck in traffic, it's important to remember that these issues are temporary and may not even be remembered in 10 years. Furthermore, by recognizing the privileges we have in comparison to others around the world, we can gain a new appreciation for our lives and learn to enjoy the journey rather than just focusing on the destination. Ultimately, we have the power to choose our attitude and reactions, and adopting a more positive perspective can lead to a more fulfilling and less stressful life.
Focus on what you can control and make someone's day better: Don't stress about things out of your control, focus on your attitude and actions. Spread positivity by making someone's day better.
We have no control over certain situations, and focusing on the things we can't change can cause unnecessary stress. Instead, it's important to remember the phrase "can't change it" and focus on what we can control, such as our attitude and actions. Additionally, making someone else's day better is a simple yet impactful way to spread positivity.
