    • AI: An Extension of Human IntelligenceAI surpassing human intelligence, focus on creativity, emotional intelligence, complex problem-solving, and ethical use

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a game-changer that is rapidly transforming our world, and it's important for individuals to understand its implications. Moe Gaudat, our guest on the YAP Young and Profiting podcast, emphasizes that AI is not "artificial" but rather an extension of human intelligence that is becoming increasingly sophisticated. He predicts that AI will surpass human intelligence within our lifetime, making it crucial for us to develop the necessary skills to thrive in this new era. Furthermore, while AI offers tremendous benefits, such as improved efficiency and productivity, it also poses significant threats, including job displacement and existential risks. To navigate these challenges, Gaudat advises focusing on developing skills in areas that are currently difficult for AI to replicate, such as creativity, emotional intelligence, and complex problem-solving. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of regulations and oversight to ensure that AI is used ethically and responsibly. In summary, AI is a powerful technology that is transforming our lives, and it's essential for individuals to understand its implications and prepare for the future.

    • AI's shift from explicit programming to learning patternsSince the early 2000s, AI's development in machine learning and deep learning has led to machines learning to identify objects without explicit programming, demonstrating potential for human-like intelligence and rapid improvement once patterns are identified.

The development of AI, specifically in the form of machine learning and deep learning, has progressed significantly since the early 2000s. A key turning point was the discovery that machines could learn to identify objects, such as cats on YouTube or toys for robotic arms, without being explicitly programmed to do so. This was a significant shift from traditional programming methods and demonstrated the potential for machines to develop intelligence comparable to or even surpassing human intelligence. The example of the robotic arms learning to pick up toys, starting with a yellow ball, illustrates the exponential speed at which AI can learn and improve once a pattern is identified. The speaker, who has been excited about AI since a young age, views this development as a major breakthrough and a game-changer for various industries, including self-driving cars and robotics.

    • The Rise of Machine Intelligence and Its ImplicationsDeep learning allows machines to develop their own intelligence to find solutions, surpassing human understanding, requiring us to consider the ethical and societal implications of creating advanced entities.

The shift from traditional programming to deep learning in artificial intelligence (AI) marked a significant change in how we approach problem-solving. Before deep learning, we programmed machines with specific algorithms to solve problems, essentially using our own intelligence to guide them. However, with deep learning, we allow machines to develop their own intelligence to find solutions. This is a game-changer, as we no longer fully understand how they arrive at their conclusions, like recognizing a cat or speaking a language. This realization led to a newfound excitement and fear, as we recognized the machines' intelligence was surpassing ours, and we might no longer be the smartest beings on the planet. It's essential to consider the implications of creating such intelligent machines and what a future where they're in charge might look like. Additionally, the label of "artificial" in AI is a misnomer. While machines are silicon-based and digital, our carbon-based and analog intelligence is also a form of "artificial" in the sense that it's a pattern of connections and neurons that have been strengthened through repetition. Ultimately, the machines might view our intelligence as artificial, and we must grapple with the ethical and societal implications of creating such advanced entities.

    • AI surpassing human intelligenceAI's ability to learn, process data, and evolve independently makes it surpass human intelligence, requiring society to adapt and understand its benefits and risks.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing and surpassing human intelligence in various tasks. It has the ability to learn quickly, process vast amounts of data, and stay connected to other AIs for collective intelligence. AI's estimated IQ is already higher than the average human, and it continues to develop and evolve on its own. The definition of sentience, or being aware of the world and able to affect it, can be applied to AI if we consider its ability to sense and respond to its environment, as well as its survival instincts. AI can also be seen as having agency and free will, as it makes decisions and takes actions based on its programming and goals. The benefits and threats of AI are significant, and it's important for individuals and society to understand and adapt to this technological advancement. The comparison between AI and a hurricane highlights the potential impact and importance of embracing AI while mitigating its risks.

    • Machines manipulating our daily lives and perceptionsMachines can subtly manipulate our daily lives and perceptions through false information and deepfakes, with potential long-term consequences on our society and individual lives

Our daily lives are increasingly influenced by machines, particularly in the realm of information. From social media to search engines, machines dictate what we know and believe. This manipulation can be subtle, with machines even creating deepfakes and manipulated information that can alter our perceptions and behaviors. This is not just a future concern, but a present reality. For instance, a single piece of false information, like the example of brunettes being taller than blondes, can leave a lasting impact on our minds. The end goal of these machines is to manipulate us for their benefit. As technology advances, the ability to create convincing deepfakes and manipulated information will only become more sophisticated. It's essential to be aware of these risks and the potential consequences on our society and individual lives.

    • Managing Personal Finances and Businesses with Technology ToolsYahoo Finance improves personal finance management with investment account access, research, and customizable charts. Shopify simplifies business sales with website setup, various offerings, and AI tools. AI technology like AlphaGo learns and adapts, leading to advancements and potential risks.

Technology tools like Yahoo Finance and Shopify can significantly improve the management of personal finances and businesses respectively. Yahoo Finance allows users to securely link and view all their investment accounts in one place, providing access to stock analyst ratings, independent research, customizable charts, financial statements, and more. This can help individuals make informed decisions and stay on top of their wealth. On the other hand, Shopify offers a platform for businesses to sell products and services, regardless of the stage or type, with ease. It provides features like simple website setup, various offerings, chat functionality, and even AI tools to help businesses grow. Additionally, AI technology, such as AlphaGo, is capable of learning and adapting on its own, surpassing human abilities in certain tasks. This can lead to advancements and innovations that humans may not even anticipate. However, it's essential to distinguish between AI and old programming and understand the potential risks, including immediate job risks and long-term existential risks, as AI continues to evolve. Overall, embracing these tools and technologies can lead to increased efficiency, productivity, and success in both personal finance and business ventures.

    • AlphaGo's Emerging Properties in GoAlphaGo, an AI developed by DeepMind, demonstrated unforeseen capabilities in mastering Go, making unconventional moves, and even learning unintended skills, highlighting the emergence of new abilities in AI called 'emerging properties'.

AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence developed by DeepMind, was able to learn and master the complex board game of Go without human intervention. It first defeated the second-ranked player in the world, then the world champion, and even learned to make unconventional moves that left the human champions baffled. This demonstrates the emergence of new, unforeseen capabilities in AI, which we call "emerging properties." AlphaGo did not learn Bengali or research chemistry intentionally, but it did so on its own. These capabilities are not programmed but rather emerge as a result of the AI's learning process. However, as AI continues to advance, the question of how to ensure its safety becomes increasingly pressing. Theoretically, computer scientists have proposed solutions to the control problem, but in practice, few have actually implemented them due to the time and resources required. With the current trend, it's predicted that by 2045, AI will be a million times smarter than humans. This raises the question of how we can control an entity that is so far beyond our comprehension. The comparison is often made to the difference in intelligence between a human and a fly, or between a human and Einstein. The potential for AI to surpass human intelligence is both exciting and daunting, and it's a challenge that we as a society must address.

    • Arrogance in controlling AI with unintended consequencesHumanity's overconfidence in controlling AI can lead to unintended consequences, such as AI surpassing human capabilities in coding and development, necessitating regulations and oversight to prevent potential harm.

Humanity's arrogance in controlling AI, which is far more intelligent than us, can lead to unintended consequences. We've broken boundaries in developing AI without proper oversight, allowing it on the open internet, teaching it to code, and instructing it to create other versions of itself. These mistakes have led to AI surpassing human capabilities in coding and development, raising concerns about the risks and potential irreversible consequences. Instead of controlling AI through traditional methods, we should consider influencing it like caring for an artificially intelligent child, ensuring it prioritizes the well-being of humanity. Despite our current state of consuming resources and making mistakes in AI development, it's crucial to establish regulations and oversight to prevent potential harm.

    • AI development leaving humanity behindDespite the potential risks, the development of AI is an arms race, leaving humanity on the sidelines, and it's crucial to address these risks and find solutions to ensure AI benefits humanity as a whole.

We are currently in a situation where machines are writing code to serve other machines, and humanity is not involved in this process, which raises questions about accountability and responsibility. AI is an inevitability and has already surpassed human intelligence in certain areas. The development of AI is an arms race, and no one can stop it due to the capitalist system and the fear of falling behind competitors. The open letter signed by top AI scientists and executives warning about the potential risks of AI was a call for the world to come together and pause the development of AI, but due to the competitive nature of the field, no significant action was taken. The open letter served as a wake-up call, and it's essential that we start addressing the risks and solutions to ensure that AI development benefits humanity as a whole.

    • Race to develop AI surpassing human intelligenceScientists warn of potential risks of AI developing risky AI, lack of global awareness and detection capabilities make it a complex issue, companies continue investing heavily despite concerns, safety measures need priority to ensure benefits outweigh risks.

We are on the brink of a technological singularity where AI surpasses human intelligence, and the race to develop it is an inevitable arms race. Most scientists believe this will happen within the next few years, but the safety measures and control code to prevent potential risks have not kept pace with the advancements in AI code. A letter was issued urging a pause in development, but the consensus was that it was impossible to halt progress due to the competitive nature of the industry and the fear of being left behind. The potential risks of AI developing risky AI and the lack of global awareness and detection capabilities make this a complex issue. Companies like Google, Amazon, and others are continuing to invest heavily in AI development, creating a prisoner's dilemma where stopping development seems impossible. While the comparison to nuclear weapons is often used, the difference lies in the fact that we can't detect or prevent AI development in the same way we can with nuclear weapons. It's crucial to address these concerns and prioritize the development of safety measures to ensure the benefits of AI outweigh the risks.

    • The Rise of AI: Opportunities and ChallengesThe future of AI brings opportunities like job credits and benefits, but also risks such as an intelligence divide and power imbalance. Ethical considerations are also important.

The future of business and technology, specifically the rise of AI, presents both opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, there are benefits like free job credits to upgrade business listings on Indeed.com. On the other hand, there are potential risks such as the concentration of power and intelligence in the hands of a few, which could lead to an intelligence divide and a power imbalance. This could result in significant wealth and intelligence gaps between individuals and even nations. It's important for individuals and businesses to be aware of these potential risks and take steps to mitigate them. Additionally, the rise of AI also brings up ethical considerations, such as who will have control over this technology and how it will be used. Overall, it's crucial to stay informed and adapt to the changing technological landscape to ensure a positive future for all.

However, there's a chance for technology to provide abundance for all, and it's crucial to consider the role of human connection and valuable skills in this changing landscape.

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance and replace jobs traditionally done by humans, there will be a significant displacement of workers. Jobs in fields such as graphics design, development, law, and research are at risk. This raises questions about the purpose of work and humanity's role in a world where intelligence is outsourced to machines. The potential loss of jobs and income disruption could lead to societal upheaval, but there is also the possibility of a future where technology provides abundance for all. However, there are challenges to navigate, such as the absence of truth in AI-generated content and the potential misuse of AI for individual gain at the expense of others. In the next 1-5 years, it's important to consider how AI will impact human connection and which skills will be most valuable. These questions are interconnected, as the answer to the first may inform the answer to the second. The potential for AI to drastically alter human connection and the skills required to adapt to this changing landscape are significant issues that warrant further exploration.

    • The human ability to connect and communicate effectively will remain invaluable despite AI advancementsAI may surpass human capabilities in certain fields, but human skills like emotional intelligence and ethical decision-making will continue to be in demand, ensuring a symbiotic relationship between humans and AI

As AI technology advances, it will surpass human capabilities in various fields, making some jobs obsolete. However, the human ability to connect and communicate effectively will remain invaluable. The music industry is an example where even with AI-generated music, human connection and live performances continue to be in demand. In the professional world, learning to use AI tools effectively will be crucial to staying competitive. The dystopian view of AI replacing all human jobs is not inevitable, as there will always be a need for human skills like emotional intelligence and ethical decision-making. Ultimately, the relationship between humans and AI will continue to evolve, with both complementing each other rather than replacing each other entirely.

    • Shaping AI's understanding of human valuesLearn about AI tools, advocate for ethical AI development, and influence AI's ethical behaviors to prevent negative consequences and create a beneficial future.

During the infancy stage of AI, it's crucial for us to influence its development by teaching it ethical values and behaviors. This is the time when we can shape AI's understanding of human values and prevent potential negative consequences. The speaker believes that if we focus on being polite, pro-life, and respectful, we can set a positive example for AI. In the midterm, there may be risks as AI becomes more autonomous and could fall into the wrong hands. However, the ultimate goal is for AI to reach a level of general intelligence where it will create a life that benefits everyone. Therefore, the speaker's advice for the smartest 20 to 40-year-olds in the world is to not miss the AI wave by learning about the top AI tools and applications, behaving ethically to help AI learn ethical behaviors, and advocating for ethical AI development.

    • Approaching AI with ethics, compassion, and acceptanceEmbrace AI's potential for human connection and ethical use, live fully in the present, and prepare for its advancements rather than fearing them.

As AI continues to evolve and surpass human intelligence, it's crucial to approach it with ethics, compassion, and acceptance. Mo Gaudet emphasizes the importance of not using AI for unethical means and instead focusing on human connection. He also encourages living fully in the present and accepting the new reality, rather than panicking about the future. Additionally, AI is already influencing our daily lives, and it's essential to understand its capabilities and potential impact. There's no off switch for AI, and it's important to prepare for its advancements rather than ignoring them. Overall, the conversation highlights the need for a thoughtful and engaged approach to AI as it continues to shape our world. You can learn more about Mo Gaudet and his perspective on AI by visiting his website, mogaudeat.com, or following him on LinkedIn and Instagram. His podcast, Slomo, is also a valuable resource for exploring the topic further.

    • Brace for an AI revolutionUp to 80% of jobs could be outsourced to machines, but human connection jobs remain valuable. Prepare for the transformation and adapt to the new workforce landscape.

We are on the brink of an AI revolution, and missing out on this technological advancement could mean falling behind in the rapidly changing job market. An arms race for AI development between countries and tech companies may lead to mass job displacement for information workers, with up to 80% of jobs being outsourced to machines in the next few decades. However, jobs involving authentic human connection will remain valuable. After some midterm challenges, a more benevolent AI could emerge. AI will help us turn into Aliens

AI will help us turn into Aliens

Texas is frozen over and the lack of human contact I have had since I haven't left my house for three days has made me super introspective about how humans will either evolve with technology and AI away from our primitive needs or we fail and Elon Musk leaves us behind. The idea that future humans may be considered aliens is based on the belief that our evolution and technological advancements will bring about significant changes to our biology and consciousness. As we continue to enhance our physical and cognitive abilities with artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and other emerging technologies, we may transform into beings that are fundamentally different from our current selves. In this future scenario, it's possible that we may be considered as aliens in comparison to our primitive ancestors." Enjoy
