    • Unexpected career paths in comedyParents' decisions led to unexpected comedy careers and the importance of learning from others' experiences

Sometimes, the most significant opportunities and career paths in life can come from the most unexpected places. Both the speaker and the guest shared stories of how their parents' decisions, made with good intentions, led them to pursue careers in comedy. The speaker discovered her passion for comedy through a church member's suggestion to join a stand-up class, while the guest's father signed him up for a class, thinking he could write for him. These seemingly small decisions snowballed into their respective successful comedy careers. Additionally, the conversation highlighted the importance of learning from others and finding inspiration in their unique perspectives and experiences. The speaker expressed her admiration for the guest's ability to understand people's thoughts and navigate relationships, which she found both entertaining and educational. Overall, the conversation underscored the value of embracing unexpected opportunities and the importance of learning from others' experiences.

    • Exploring different opportunities in stand-up comedySuccess in stand-up comedy comes from exploring various paths, developing skills, and overcoming fears, even for introverted performers.

Stand-up comedy, like many creative pursuits, can take various forms and doesn't have to follow a single path. Comedians can find success in different areas such as cruises, corporates, colleges, and even unconventional shows. Furthermore, stand-up comedy requires overcoming significant fears, including the fear of rejection and how one will be perceived. The first-time performers shared their experiences of being terrified but gaining confidence through their material and deep connections with their audiences. They also acknowledged that they are introverts and shy individuals but discovered that their confidence grew when they were on stage sharing their ideas. Overall, the journey of becoming a successful stand-up comedian involves exploring different opportunities, developing skills, and facing and overcoming fears.

    • Overcoming fear through consistency and experienceConsistently performing and finding relatable topics can help overcome fear and build confidence, leading to validation and connection with audiences.

Consistency and experience are key to overcoming fear and building confidence in performing, whether it's stand-up comedy or any other arena. The speaker shared how they pushed through their initial terror by performing multiple times a night and discovering that their audience related to their experiences. They also emphasized the importance of talking about relatable topics and finding one's audience. The speaker's transition from a traditional career path to pursuing stand-up comedy was not without challenges, but the validation and connection with their audience made it worthwhile. Ultimately, they encouraged writing and performing about personal experiences and finding the people who resonate with them.

    • Exploring new opportunities with a safety netSelf-acceptance and the understanding that it's never too late to make a change can lead to a fulfilling life. Focus on one area of your life going great at a time during transitions.

Having a safety net or the belief that you can always go back to a previous path can provide a sense of security and freedom to explore new opportunities. The comedian shared how she had enough work booked after college to justify not returning, but the fear of leaving her clean comedy image behind held her back for years. The transition to a more edgy stand-up style was difficult, and she grappled with feelings of not fitting in. Her friends' advice to focus on one area of her life going great at a time resonated with her, and she encourages others in similar situations to consider the same approach. The idea that everything needs to be figured out by a certain age is a common pressure, but the freedom to pivot and explore new paths can lead to a fulfilling life. The comedian's story highlights the importance of self-acceptance and the understanding that it's never too late to make a change.

    • Trusting oneself to pivot in lifeIt's okay to pivot or even go backwards in life when necessary, trusting in yourself to adapt and thrive is key.

It's okay to pivot or even go backwards in life when necessary, and that confidence in oneself is key. This was highlighted in a conversation about individuals who made significant changes in their careers, some as early as their 20s and 30s. These individuals faced criticism and shame for not adhering to societal expectations of continuous forward progress, but they overcame these feelings by trusting in their abilities to adapt and thrive. The speaker shared her own experience of leaving monkhood and the guilt she felt about sharing her learnings in a universal way, but she ultimately gained the confidence to move past the judgment and pursue her goals. This idea of being confident enough to pivot or go back to previous paths is a powerful one, and it's important to remember that it's okay to not have everything figured out at once. Instead, we should focus on trusting ourselves and our abilities to navigate the twists and turns of life.

    • Staying true to oneself and embracing uncertaintyEmbrace experiences, be open-minded, and prioritize self-care to stay true to oneself and navigate uncertainty in life.

Certainty in religion and other areas of life may be elusive, and it's essential to be true to oneself and not compromise personal values. The speaker shares her experience of feeling misaligned with roles she was offered due to her open-mindedness and lack of dogmatic beliefs. She learned that it's okay not to be right for every opportunity and that there's a place for everyone. Losing her mother at a young age was a formative experience that opened up new perspectives for the speaker, leading her on a journey of self-discovery and therapy. It's crucial to embrace our experiences, both good and bad, as they shape who we are. Additionally, the importance of self-care was highlighted, as the speaker shared her use of Ritual's Synbiotic Plus supplement to support her gut health. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself, embracing uncertainty, and taking care of one's well-being.

    • The profound impact of loss and hardshipLoss can make us more empathetic, resilient, and creative, but also leaves deep sadness and longing. Finding positive aspects and sharing stories can help. Personal values are crucial in relationships.

Loss and hardship can shape us in profound ways. The speaker shared how the loss of her mother at a young age made her more empathetic, resilient, and creative. However, it also left her feeling a deep sadness and longing for approval from her ghost. This experience taught her the importance of finding the positive aspects of loss and sharing her story openly, despite the discomfort it may bring to others. Additionally, she emphasized the significance of personal values in relationships, drawing a connection between her strong stance against cheating and her past experiences. Overall, her journey serves as a reminder of the complex ways in which loss and hardship can impact our lives and shape who we become.

    • Deepening connections through shared experiencesIntentional efforts like taking trips and focusing on each other can lead to unexpected discoveries and deepened understanding in relationships.

Meaningful connections in relationships can be strengthened through intentional efforts such as taking regular trips to disconnect from daily distractions and focus on each other. These experiences can lead to unexpected discoveries and deepened understanding, challenging preconceived notions about love and relationships. The speaker's personal story of a dream that felt all too real illustrates the power of shared experiences and the influence of external factors on our perceptions of love. As we grow older, our understanding of love evolves, and we come to realize that the complexities of relationships require open communication, trust, and a willingness to work through challenges together.

    • Understanding the importance of a relationshipRecognize the value of a strong connection and show compassion for each other's unique experiences.

The key to navigating relationships, especially in your twenties and thirties, is understanding the importance of the relationship you have with the other person. Our past experiences can make it difficult to determine what is a deal breaker versus something that can be worked through. Those who have found someone they deeply love and respect often find that they are willing to overlook certain transgressions due to the strength of their connection. It's essential to know your value in a relationship but also have compassion for the other person's values and decisions. Personal experiences can shape our perceptions, and it's important to remember that everyone's journey is unique. A funny and relatable example given was of an ex who had cheated, but the speaker was able to find humor and understanding in the situation, ultimately leading to a newfound appreciation for the experience.

    • The Importance of Time, Compassion, and Empathy in Healing from Past RelationshipsAs we age, we can learn to see the humanity in those who have hurt us and find a way to move forward through self-reflection, personal development, and finding hobbies.

Time, compassion, and empathy are essential in healing from past relationships, no matter how painful they may have been. As we age and gain more experiences, we can learn to see the humanity in those who have hurt us and find a way to move forward. Taylor Thompson, in the conversation, shares her journey of coming to terms with her past and the importance of self-reflection and growth. She encourages focusing on personal development and finding hobbies, even if one has achieved great success in their career. The paradox of being able to make people laugh about past experiences while also sharing the depth and thoughtfulness behind them is a testament to the human capacity for growth and resilience.

    • Focus on personal growth before entering a relationshipEmotionally, financially, and spiritually prepare for a relationship by focusing on personal growth and bringing value instead of relying on the other person for fulfillment.

Being self-sufficient but not necessarily "okay" by yourself is important before entering a relationship. While some people may have successful long-term relationships after ending one or starting one in a difficult period, it's essential to focus on personal growth and bringing value to the relationship instead of relying on the other person for fulfillment. The speaker emphasizes the importance of focusing on one's identity and goals beyond career achievements, as these aspects contribute to overall well-being and personal growth. Additionally, addressing irrational beliefs and fears, such as survivor's guilt, can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life. In essence, being emotionally, financially, and spiritually prepared, but not perfect, is crucial for a healthy and successful relationship.

    • Formative years of self-discoverySelf-awareness and introspection are crucial for personal growth, but relationships also involve growing together and continuing the journey of self-discovery

Self-awareness and introspection are essential parts of personal growth, regardless of relationship status. These formative years spent alone contribute significantly to our understanding of ourselves and help us remove obstacles in future relationships. However, it's essential to remember that relationships involve growing together, and both parties are constantly changing. It's a common misconception that we must be fully self-sufficient before entering a relationship. Instead, the journey of self-discovery continues even within a relationship, leading to a deeper connection and understanding between partners. The time spent alone in our adult lives can be valuable, allowing us to learn more about ourselves and prepare us for the complexities of relationships.

    • The lonely journey home for artistsArtists face challenges being alone after performing for large audiences, but this experience can lead to self-reflection, personal growth, and stronger relationships.

Being alone after spending time in the spotlight and being surrounded by a large audience can be a challenging and lonely experience for artists and performers. Despite the validation and love received from the audience, the absence of a close companion or partner can be difficult to cope with. This experience is amplified when artists spend long periods of time on tour away from their loved ones. However, this separation can also provide an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. The fear of being alone can be alleviated by recognizing the importance of having a strong relationship with oneself. Additionally, the experience of being apart can make the time spent together even more cherished and valuable. Marriage, in particular, can benefit from periods of separation due to work or other commitments. Overall, the lonely journey home is a unique experience for artists, but it can also be an opportunity for personal growth and strengthening relationships.

    • Embracing our paradoxes and contradictionsAccepting and embracing all parts of ourselves, on and off-stage, leads to a more authentic and joyful life

Performing on stage and connecting with audiences is a unique experience that brings love and validation, but it's important to remember that it's just one aspect of who we are. The performer on stage is not a mask or a trick, but a genuine expression of ourselves. We are complex beings made up of various paradoxes and contradictions, and it's essential to accept and embrace all parts of ourselves rather than trying to force ourselves to fit into one definition. The performer and the person off-stage are not mutually exclusive, but two sides of the same coin. It's a reminder that we are multifaceted individuals, capable of experiencing deep connections and building new friendships, even in the face of life's fragmentation. Embracing our paradoxes and contradictions can lead to a more authentic and joyful life.

Do You Compare Yourself or Your Relationship to Others? 5 Surprising Ways to Stop Letting Comparison Steal Your Happiness

Do You Compare Yourself or Your Relationship to Others? 5 Surprising Ways to Stop Letting Comparison Steal Your Happiness

Do you compare your relationship to others?

How can you identify and manage your triggers for comparison?

Today, Jay introduces the concept of social comparison theory, explaining the differences between upward - where we compare ourselves to those we perceive as better off, can lead to feelings of inadequacy if done with envy rather than a mindset of learning, and downward comparisons which involves comparing ourselves to those worse off, which can provide a temporary boost in self-esteem but is ultimately unproductive and unkind.

He shares practical strategies for reducing comparison, such as being mindful of social media usage, identifying personal triggers, and investing in self-improvement. Jay also stresses the importance of understanding the deeper, often hidden aspects of people's lives and why we usually compare our internal struggles with others' external successes, leading to a distorted and unfair self-assessment.

    In the episode, you'll learn:

    How to identify your goals

    How to set mutual goals

How to be mindful of your triggers

    How to invest in self-improvement

By seeking deeper connections and understanding the full context of others' lives, we can develop more empathy and reduce the impulse to compare and shift our focus from external comparisons to internal growth and relational strength, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

8 Signs You Are Subtle Settling In Your Relationship & Overcome the Fear of Being Alone

Do you often feel unappreciated by your partner?

Do you avoid addressing issues to keep the peace?

He begins by acknowledging the pervasive uncertainty many people face about their partners and the fear of being alone that often drives them to stay in unfulfilling relationships. Is it true that the lack of current excitement or passion necessarily indicates settling.

7 Habits to Be Present When Everything Feels Like It’s Moving Too Quickly (Busy People Listen Now)

How can you recognize when you need to slow down?

And what are the benefits of slowing down in everyday life?

Today, Jay addresses the growing concern about how to slow down in our fast-paced world. Many of us feel like time is flying by, and Jay offers practical tips to help us feel more present and in control.

Jay recommends connecting with ourselves, looking at our schedule, and reaching out to loved ones. By waking up 20 minutes earlier than needed, this small change can set a calm tone for the day. How to change your daily habits

How to plan for your day

These small changes can make a big difference in how you experience time. Remember, there's more to life than increasing its speed. Let's slow down together and savor every moment.

    960 The Voice of Truth

    960 The Voice of Truth

In your life, where does the voice of truth come from? Whose whispers gain your greatest attention?

Maybe it's the constant failures and short-comings.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact

Maybe it's the faults of your past.

Maybe it's your own belief that you're never good enough.

Why is it that we hang out with our stumbles and failures questioning our worth?

Never once did God hesitate when He created you; fearfully and wonderfully made, knowing every hair on your head.

Yet where is the voice of truth?

Is it the naysayers, the badgers, the mockers? Is that where your voice of truth is being solidified and defined?

I want you to really think about whom you are putting your trust in.

The K.I.S.S. ~ The Voice of Truth!

REFLECTION: Today, I want you to reflect on these three questions.

    1. Where is the voice of truth coming from?
    2. What is the voice of truth telling you?
    3. How are you using the voice of truth in your life?

If you are hearing God, the only voice of truth, then you know you are loved, given a gift of salvation, and grace for your life's journey.

That's the voice of truth you need to be listening to.

Not the negative CRAP, the doubts and drama of others, and not the daily sagas of self-centered mindsets.

It's all about control, earthly control. What happened to Heavenly control?

Let God wash away the torment of lies that threaten your greatness He's creating within you.

Let it go! Let God have it all!

    Give Him your heart.
Dedicate your life to glorify Him.
Rejoice with the voice of truth.

As you go out this week...

"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness!"

May God bless you this week in all your steps, in all your endeavors. Seek His guidance. Praise His name. The voice of truth!
