    • A poignant reminder of hope and renewal through conversation and reaching out for helpEven in the darkest moments, conversations and seeking help can lead to hope, redemption, and growth.

Even in the darkest moments, there's hope for change and renewal. Samantha's story, as shared on this episode of the podcast, is a poignant reminder of the power of conversation and the importance of reaching out for help. She had planned to take her own life in 2016, but a deep conversation during a camping trip saved her. Samantha's struggles began in her childhood and intensified before her first marriage to Laura. Despite appearances, their relationship underwent a significant transformation, leading them to get married a second time. This unexpected turn of events underscores the complexity of human emotions and relationships. The podcast episode serves as a powerful reminder that no matter how dire the situation may seem, there's always a chance for redemption and growth. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

    • Assumptions in Relationships: A Hidden StruggleOpen communication, understanding, and the willingness to challenge assumptions are crucial in addressing underlying issues in relationships.

Assumptions can lead to misunderstandings and delays in addressing important issues. In the story shared on Endless Thread, Laura, who had married her college sweetheart Samantha in 2006, struggled with her partner's depression for years. Ben, Laura's husband, assumed the depression was related to the stresses of their lives, including the diagnosis and care of their four young sons on the autism spectrum. However, it wasn't until Ben discovered that the three therapists Laura had found listed LGBT expertise that he began to question his assumptions. Samantha, assigned male at birth, was dealing with her own identity and had been ignoring her feelings for years. The couple's relationship became strained, and it wasn't until a decade into their marriage that Samantha came to terms with her gender identity. This experience highlights the importance of open communication, understanding, and the willingness to challenge assumptions to address underlying issues.

    • The weight of hiding one's identitySuppressing one's identity can lead to emotional distress, depression, and even suicide ideation. Allowing individuals to express their true selves is crucial for their well-being.

The pressure to conform to societal expectations and hide one's true identity can lead to significant emotional distress and even suicide ideation. The speaker in this text shared her experience of feeling incongruent with her body during puberty and hiding her gender identity throughout her marriage. Her partner, who lived with her for over a decade, had no idea about her struggles. The crushing weight of hiding her identity consumed her thoughts and led to depression. It wasn't until a list of LGBT therapists was discovered that a conversation about gender identity finally took place. While there was initial relief in discovering the cause of her partner's long-term misery, the implications for their marriage and other aspects of their lives were overwhelming. This experience highlights the importance of allowing individuals to express their true selves and the potential consequences of suppressing one's identity.

    • Navigating significant life changes with open communication and supportTransgender communities on Reddit provided a roadmap and sense of belonging for a couple facing the challenges of a partner's gender transition, helping them to better understand each other and work through their fears and uncertainties.

Open communication and understanding are crucial in navigating significant life changes, even in the face of uncertainty. Laura and Samantha's relationship underwent a significant shift when Samantha came out as transgender. This revelation led to a period of adjustment, fear, and uncertainty for both parties. Laura's initial reaction was to consider leaving, but her love for Samantha and her desire to support her kept her present. Samantha, in turn, found solace and guidance in transgender communities on Reddit. The trans communities on Reddit provided Samantha with a roadmap and a sense of belonging. It was a space where she could see real people going through similar experiences, both as individuals and as couples. This shared experience helped Laura and Samantha to better understand each other and the challenges they were facing. While the journey was not without its emotional ups and downs, the couple was determined to give their relationship a chance and work through the challenges together. The discovery of these communities served as a vital resource for them, offering guidance, support, and a renewed sense of hope for their future.

    • The Power of Online Trans CommunitiesOnline trans communities on Reddit offer valuable support, inspiration, and connections for individuals navigating their gender identity, providing a safe space for asking questions, sharing experiences, and finding acceptance.

The online trans community on Reddit can provide valuable support and inspiration for individuals navigating their gender identity and the challenges that come with it. Samantha's experience of finding inspiration from a wedding album featuring a trans bride on Reddit and later meeting the bride, Tessa, in person, underscores the power of online communities in offering comfort and connection. The Reddit community serves as a resource for asking questions, sharing experiences, and finding understanding and acceptance. The diverse and welcoming nature of the community can help individuals feel less alone and more empowered to explore their gender identity and build a fulfilling life.

    • Trans experiences in media often misrepresent realitySharing stories and supporting each other helps navigate challenges in the trans community

The trans experience, as portrayed in media, often falls into stereotypical narratives that don't represent the reality for many trans individuals. Samantha, a trans woman, shared her experience of feeling excluded and misunderstood during her transition, but also highlighted the importance of sharing stories and supporting each other to help navigate the challenges. Samantha and her partner, Laura, have faced unexpected difficulties, such as being treated as separate individuals in public settings, but have found strength in their commitment to each other. Their journey, filled with both challenges and joy, serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding, acceptance, and communication in the trans community.

    • Explaining Transition to ChildrenUsing age-appropriate language and stories can help children understand a transgender person's transition. Remember, every child is unique and may react differently. Be patient and compassionate during this process.

Explaining a transgender person's transition to children can be a challenging but rewarding experience. Using age-appropriate language and stories can help ease their understanding. For instance, using the example of a person changing their outside appearance while remaining the same inside and continuing to do the same activities with their loved ones. It's important to remember that every child is unique and may have different reactions and concerns. Our hope is that these experiences can help children become more compassionate and understanding towards people who are different. The process of transitioning and reacquainting oneself with loved ones, including children, can be a significant learning curve. It's essential to remember that everyone's experiences with transitioning are unique, and some people may not mind being referred to by their old names, while others may prefer to move on from that part of their past. Transitioning later in life can bring a mix of emotions, as it may involve revisiting past experiences, both beautiful and painful. Overall, being true to oneself and being able to live authentically can bring a sense of freedom and joy.

    • Love and gender transformation bring unexpected changesTransformation, whether personal or relational, can lead to growth, happiness, and stability despite initial fears and uncertainties.

Transformation, whether personal or relational, can bring about unexpected changes and challenges, but ultimately leads to growth and joy. Samantha and Laura's journey of love and gender transition illustrates this idea. Initially, there were fears and uncertainties, but as they navigated through the process, they discovered a new normal filled with happiness and stability. The biggest relief for Laura was the lifting of the burden, allowing her to truly appreciate and enjoy the person she loves. It's important to remember that the journey may not always be easy, but the end result can be worth it. Additionally, they introduced us to Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of trans people, offering a hotline for support.

Looking for a Man, Finding a Record Deal

In April, a TikTok creator mused, "Did I just write the song of the summer?" Girl on Couch's "Looking for a man in finance" song spawned hundreds of remixes, and won her a record deal. While it might seem remarkable that a five-second TikTok sound can command the attention of pop music kingmakers, the industry has been capitalizing on internet memes for decades. Endless Thread takes a crash course in internet meme pop music history.

Gen Z wants you to take political action, one TikTok at a time

Gen Z wants you to take political action, one TikTok at a time

Gen Z is over it. The youngest generation of adults is inheriting a climate crisis, the ongoing fallout from a global pandemic, a polarized political landscape, and a tenuous economic reality.  And many Gen Z members, a generation more likely to identify as progressive than conservative, are ready for something to give.

Enter: Gen Z for Change — a youth-led non-profit that brands itself as, "the place where the creator economy and progressive politics intersect on social media." The group leverages a hundreds-deep network of social media creators to spread calls to action over TikTok. They've also pulled on the programming expertise within their team to develop a caché of semi-automatic tools that take the guesswork out of engaging with their political agenda.

Their latest tool, "Ceasefire Now!!" takes these efforts one step further — resulting in, by Gen Z for Change's count, two million emails calling for a ceasefire in Gaza hitting the inboxes of elected representatives in Washington every day.

Our interactions with nature are increasingly mediated by technology. We scroll through wildlife feeds on TikTok. We use Instagram to plan hikes. Even in the wilderness, we religiously bring our phones to document the experience. And then there are animal cams.

Since the 1990s, people have fawned over livestreams of cute pandas and colorful fish. One could argue that animal cams another example of how we’ve jammed a screen between ourselves and the wild. But the story of Jackie the bald eagle presents a different perspective: one in which technology might bring us closer to our fellow creatures.

    1936 The Art of Breath

One thing taken for granted is breathing. If you take time to silence the chaos and learn the art of breath, you will be on your way to mastering a healthy lifestyle.

The smallest actions can give the greatest results. And breathing is one of these actions.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

However, most of us don't sit around thinking about how we breath and telling our bodies to do something that happens automatically.

That's one of the greatest beauties about how our bodies work. It's these intricate details that give us the opportunity to live out our dreams.

So instead of getting all bent out of shape for what you haven't done for your body and health, pause and be grateful for your breath and breathe with intention.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Breathe with intention!

I am not one who pretends to have it all together. I make mistakes daily. I sell my health short too. And let me tell you, the pantry is a daily struggle for me.

Yet one thing I have learned over the decades is presence. Being present is SO important. And one way to do this is being in tune with your body.

I think of this as creating harmony. Music has been a love for my entire life. I've always had a song in my heart and my mom would say I came out talking and singing. That is one of the greatest gifts they gave me, music.

One area of music that always drew me in was harmony. And that's how I look at our bodies. We need to find the "harmony" of our bodies in the food, fitness, and function.

And the first step is the most foundational one....Breath!

Believe it or not, we all breathe! And there is an art to breathing.

A week or so back, I found myself going out to pick up some essentials at the grocery store. This was the first outing with my mask. Now understand that I am a woman always on a mission and that morning was no different. I had an early morning meeting and interview. So there was no time to dawdle.

So I made the dash into the store picking up a cart on the way. Nothing like the sunshine to kill any germs. I get in the store and my phone rings. My husband found something at home that needed my attention.

As I stood there listening, I realized I was breathing harder and hotter air. I felt the mask hug my mouth and then release upon my exhale.

For once, I was captivated by my own breath. (Plus this is when I realized I had a lot of hot air, which my husband has documented the day and time as it will go into the history books.)

There is the art of breath and it can be extremely beneficial to the harmony of your body.

    So let's breathe with intention.

    1. Find a comfortable and calm place.
    2. Sit tall as if your head is being pulled up by a string.
    3. Close your eyes and relax your shoulders.
    4. Loosen the tightness throughout your body.
    5. Focus on your breath; breathing in and out slowly and controlled.
    6. As you begin to welcome this calm, your mind might drift off. Bring your focus back to your breath.
    7. Add a thought of gratitude and praise.

You can do this for a few seconds just to start. It can be a weird feeling at first especially if you've never tried it. But as you do it throughout your day, extend the time.

I love doing this when I get frustrated or mad, or even when I'm in a situation that I need to process more calmly than a knee-jerk reaction.

The art of breath will serve your mind and body well. May harmony begin to ignite the wellbeing of your presence.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

    Deconstructing Purity Culture

    Deconstructing Purity Culture

If you grew up in the church in the ‘90s, you probably experienced purity culture—it was the church’s response to the increasing promiscuity in society. Unintentionally, purity culture caused significant harm and didn't fully capture God’s heart towards sex and individual value. In this episode, we share what we believe to be a more biblical view of sex and relationships. We hope you enjoy the conversation.

1910 How Do You Balance Life's Demands?

Life can give you lemons; busyness, stress, and exhaustion. Out of control seems like the new normal. How do you balance life's demands when you can't escape your living room?

But only if you could get less hanging out and more peace in the house.

Children of all ages can stir up so much energy. Yet the challenge is having this energy in one place ALWAYS! At least before, you could change the environment.

Now, you are stuck. Not because you want to be, but because you have to be.

Finding a balance in your own life is one thing. But creating it with the family is another.

So you gotta put first things first.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Put first things first!

Yes, the kiddos matter. But if you don't keep your head on, a lot more can go wrong.

So take a deep breath. Put first things first!

    1. Create an escape moment. This is a way to give yourself space for personal accountability. Run in such a way that you might win. (1 Corinthians 9:24) You may not be able to leave the area, but you can find a moment where you can gain a sense of peace.
    2. Energize with hope. Do something that switches the focus on the positive, not the negative. Dance. Laugh.
    3. Play Hide 'n Seek. You make the rules. Even the little ones can play. You can even play with doubles. Choose a base and you've got this. Just beware! The cat might give you away.

How you feel will be multiplied by the children. They can sense when you are feeling stressed, relaxed, or even nervous. Do your best to project what you want them to feed off of.

1654 How to Get to the Finish Line

1654 How to Get to the Finish Line

When you want to reach your goal, you must learn how to get to the finish line. Because of course, quitting isn't an option.

You have a goal, a dream. Reaching those are always the focus.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://facebook.com/groups/thewomenofimpact

So why are you so quick to throw in the towel when things get tough?

You were created with a burning purpose. Some days, it's easy to live them out. Other days, you want to quit.

If quitting is so attractive, let's look at why we do it.

Our minds and body are in search of what we know. Habits are a preferred way of life. When change is introduced, your mind begins to look for ways to escape the mission.

"Go to what you know," the mind echoes loudly.

But for most of us, the mind's motto doesn't serve our goals or dreams; our life.

How do you get to the finish line when everything is working against you?

    Play the tricks. Reverse psychology.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Play the tricks!

Wrap what is new in what is old.

    1. Stay the course. The worse thing you can do is quit. So don't do it!
    2. Adjust when needed. When you are in realtime, make adjustments. Change what doesn't work. Change what doesn't serve you.
    3. Take A.I.M. Action ignites motivation. Keeping going. You got this!

"One step at a time leads to miles of greatness!"

    1903 Trial By Fire

    1903 Trial By Fire

No one likes trial by fire. But as parents, we are always challenged and stretched. Imagine how flexible that makes you!

It's times like these, when you are overwhelmed, uncertain, exhausted, and anxious about tomorrow, where you appreciate the lighter and brighter days.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

You may not have any idea of what's to come, but what you do know, is your children will always be ready to disrupt and disturb you.

I can remember when life was so simple. No interruptions and very few last-minute trips to the store for the school project. Only the husband had me run out for some crazy reason.

Since having children, this is normal. In fact, if you didn't have the interruptions and last-minute trips to the store for supplies, you would wonder what was happening.

A lot of what we do as parents are ever-changing; trial by fire.

We attempt to understand our roles, what is expected of us, all the while remaining organized and calm.

    But that is not reality!

What are you to do when nothing seems to be going the way you dreamed?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Change your normal!

Do what you know with a twist of what is not normal. In other words, you have to go with the flow and be willing to extinguish all fires.

    1. Be flexible.
    2. Work in your strengths.
    3. Ask for help when needed.

Change your normal. Because in reality, the only normal you have as a parent is change!

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
