1 Cor. 13 The “Love” chapter seen in its proper context.

1 Cor. 13 The “Love” chapter seen in its proper context.

This is a very important chapter of scripture.

It is very beneficial even without context but yet I do believe what Paul is saying is amplified and clarified by seeing it is in the middle of two chapters on Spiritual gifts written to a church that in many ways was immature and I believe getting ahead of themselves in areas when they lacked Christian character. They wanted the gifts of the Spirit but lacked the fruit of the Spirit.

1 Cor. 8 Don’t use freedom in Christ to entertain sin.

1 Cor. 8 Don’t use freedom in Christ to entertain sin.

In Christ we have been set free from many Old Testament Laws. We also have been freed from the bondage of sin. Sometimes Christians use “freedom” in Christ to justify free or even sinful living. Thank God for the freedom we have been given but always seek to honor Christ in your living.

1 Cor. 7 Sexual intimacy in marriage. Also divorce and singleness. Finally, the challenging topic of remarriage.

1 Cor. 7 Sexual intimacy in marriage. Also divorce and singleness. Finally, the challenging topic of remarriage.

This is one of the more challenging chapters of the Bible for me to preach. Mostly in regards to remarriage. God’s desire is for one marriage for a lifetime. How do we interpret the various passages on this topic and how does God’s grace for our sin fit into this topic in comparison to other sin? Can God love us and forgive us when our actions are not his desire? I believe the answer is yes, however the goodness of His Grace should not be claimed to promote us going in a direction that is not pleasing to Him. Yet, are we not all thankful for His love and grace that covers a multitude of sin!?

    • I misspoke early in podcast when I said Paul wanted us to live “im”moral sexual lives. Clearly you can see throughout the whole teaching that is not what I meant to say. I trust you can tell from all said that was an error in speaking and not intent. I mean to say “moral.”

1 Cor. 4 Dealing with factions and divisions in the church.

1 Cor. 4 Dealing with factions and divisions in the church.

This is an important chapter in church life because with people there can and will be problems.

    The solution.

    1. Leaders conduct yourselves honorably
    2. Church body be careful to in pride to create division in the body.
    3. All seek to build unity and seek to honor one another.
    4. If there is something to discuss do not build factions but rather go to the person you need to talk to alone and be humble. Maybe there are facts to which you are unaware.
    5. If that meeting alone does not yet build unity then agree on bringing in other Godly counsel to assist in building unity.
    6. If you have done all this and division remains that cannot be resolved it may be good to consider finding a new church.

In my experience, sadly, many of these God ordained steps are not followed.

Deuteronomy 33 The blessing on Israel.

Deuteronomy 33 The blessing on Israel.

Even though God knew of their future waywardness God is going to be with them and bless them in taking the promised land. Moses the man of God prayed a special blessing upon the tribes on the presuppose of taking the land.
