    Are toxic relationships wreaking havoc on your hormones and causing anxiety?

    Did you know that mothers who spend all day with their children produce MORE cortisol (the stress hormone) than 98% of the worlds paying professions?

    Nothing puts me into a stressful state like managing conflict and tension.

    It boils down to a LACK OF RESPECT AND SHOWING LOVE.

    The toxic relationships in my life have usually had a cocktail of these traits:

    1. Sarcasm- relies heavily on tone and context making it prone to misinterpretation.  Our kids don’t always get this. Passive Aggressive (avoidance, sarcasm, subtle jabs, procrastination) 

    2. Bad communication- say what you mean and mean what you say

    3. Lack of honoring boundaries in time, money, priorities- none of us know what is happening in other’s lives.  

    4. Emotional manipulation shows itself in

    *****logic

    *****guilt trips 

    ****helplessness(playing the victim) 

    ****even flattery

    ****threats

    ****gas lighting (manipulation when someone subtly or intentionally distorts another’s perception of reality causing them to doubt their own memory, judgment, or sanity.

    5.  Constant criticism

    TO have healthy relationships:

    1. Teach these words when they are happening

    2. Set boundaries

    3. Teach others how you need to be treated!

    4. Heal 

    5. Forgive/ Reconcile

    2. Track spending: use an app, use notes in your phone, log receipts, etc. 
    3. Pick your non negotiables
    4. Shop wholesale

    6. Use grocery pick ups 
    7. Plan big purchases around holiday sales to get deals and avoid shipping/check influencer codes on IG

    9. Research some lifestyle changes. Ie: menstrual cup vs tampons, natural hair color vs treated hair, sustainable coffee at home vs buying out. 
    10. DIY cleaning products and use natural stuff you can buy in bulk!! Vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, etc.

    Summer should be so fun, right!?!  Then why as moms do we sometimes feel so stressed about it!?

    We want the kids to have fun, we want quality family time and BBQs and vacations BUT....

    We also have a change in routine.

    We still have to do our jobs and /or responsiblities all with more kids at home.

    The house is always a mess!!

    Marriage can be hard.

    It can also be the most rewarding relationship we are apart of.

    I am not a therapist, but I do have marriage experience and I've made mistakes and taken intentional steps to have a great marriage.  

    I've also heard from countless friends and women who share similar stories.

    They want good communication.  They want to feel close to their husband.  They want to be a team but they are exhausted and the kids take all they have.

    I share my top tips to calm the chaos in your marriage.  These will HELP, but you may need extra support from a counselor or therapist.  

    I offer tips and things that have helped me SO MUCH!

    1. Date your spouse!
    2. Define roles
    3. Share responsibilities
    4. Manage conflict with set rules to fight fair.
    5. Heal past hurts
    6. Hold in an "open hand"
    7. Discuss "State of the Union" weekly
    8. Flirt/Have sex
    9. Parent Second
    10. Pray with and for your spouse

    Your marriage can improve... it can be amazing.  I don't like saying that it takes work, but it does take INTENTION!

    Are your needs being met?

    We all have basic human needs.... food, water, clothing, sleep and shelter.

    But what about our emotional needs? 

    Different psychologists and organizations have come up with different lists, but this is my favorite.  
    We all have the emotional needs to feel love/connection, variety, significance, certainty, growth and contribution.

    Use these as a journaling exercise!

    When you feel overwhelmed, unsettled, like things are all topsy turvy, check in with this list and pick new thoughts and actions to change things to fill you emotionally!

    Teenage life brings so much insecurity to parenting.

    We hear all of the horror stories.

    Will they stay on track?

    Will they chose the right crowd?

    Will they date the wrong boy?

    I have 4 teenagers right now!! whew!  It isn't for the faint of heart!  But it is not awful either... the right foundation must be set for good communication, trust, and truth!!

    In this episode I share my four tips for healthy communication with teenagers... especially teenage daughters.  They are little versions of us but the world they are living in is much scarier to us because we don't understand it all!

    I hope you listened to episode 140 on The Well podcast! Danielle Emmons shares a powerful story of severe depression and anxiety.  Today, in Part 2, we share tips on how to improve your gut health.  Once you recognize the gut/brain connection you will be amazed at how much better you can feel!

    Some of her top tips for gut health are:

    1.  Improve mental health, take good care of yourself... find peace in your day
    2. Get healthy gut foods and pre/probiotics
    3. Cut inflammatory foods- anything you don't recognize the ingredients and items that have more than 3 ingredients.
    4. Cut down alcohol
    5. Exercise

    Meet my new friend, Danielle Emmons!  She is a registered dietician and helps poeple understand the gut/ brain connection as well as a non-diet approach to weight loss.  But she also has a very important story to tell.  
    Danielle got the Covid shot and later got Covid naturally and had an awful reaction with anxiety and depression.

    I had a similar experience so we want to tell you that if you have experienced this, you are not crazy!

    And you are not alone!

    We will get to more of the dietician content in the next episode but we were having such a great conversation we kept going and made it two parts Enjoy!
