UFC 282 recap with guest co-host Sayif Saud

UFC 282 recap with guest co-host Sayif Saud

On today’s episode of UFC Unfiltered, the dynamic duo of Matt Serra and Jim Norton return for a recap of last Saturday’s UFC 282 pay-per-view with Fortis MMA owner and head coach Sayif Saud.

Matt and Sayif begin the show talking about the unique motivational and in-fight-advice-giving methods they each use to get a hold of various fighters.

Then, the guys begin a recap of the UFC 282 fights by asking Sayif about what it was like seeing his fighter Alex Morono go from dominating the first two rounds of his short-notice fight against welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio to getting caught in the third round for a knockout loss.

As the topic shifts to Paddy Pimblett’s co-main event victory over Jared Gordon and the split draw in the vacant light heavyweight title fight between Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Błachowicz, Sayif states his case for how state Athletic Commissions can clean up MMA judging across the board.

The guys wrap up the show by talking about which of the 10 consecutive finishes on Saturday’s card they found most compelling, featherweight Alexander Volkanovski’s quest to become a double champion at lightweight, and much more!

Din’s Got Answers: UFC 281 madness, Bantamweight and Lightweight titles, and is Sambo or BJJ more effective with Beneil Dariush

Din’s Got Answers: UFC 281 madness, Bantamweight and Lightweight titles, and is Sambo or BJJ more effective with Beneil Dariush

Matt and Jim are off this week due to the holidays.

That doesn't mean we don't have something for you to listen to.

Din’s Got Answers is a new show hosted by our pal and yours Din Thomas.

    A little about the show:

Got questions about the UFC? Well, Din Thomas is here to answer them. Din will use his experience as a UFC veteran, analyst, comedian, coach to the biggest names in the sport, co-star of Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight, host of The Din Diaries, and more to answer your questions about everything and anything UFC related.

On this episode, Din answers three questions.

First, what’s up with all the madness at UFC 281? Second, who deserves to be next to challenge for the bantamweight and lightweight titles? And third, what’s more effective in MMA, Sambo or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

What’s up with all the madness at UFC 281? The PPV didn’t disappoint, as the main card was filled with all finishes and Israel Adesanya was dethroned of his middleweight belt by rival Alex Pereira. Din recaps the card and drops his answers to everything that happened at UFC 281.

Who deserves to be next to challenge for the bantamweight and lightweight titles? Din has his answer. He looks at the current landscape of the bantamweight and lightweight divisions. Should bantamweight Sean O’Malley fight next for the title? Or, should it be someone else like Henry Cejudo? Then, Din hits on if featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski deserves to fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight belt. Is Beneil Dariush being snubbed? Din touches on every angle to give you his answer.

What’s more effective in MMA, Sambo or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Din has his answer. To help answer this question, Din hollers at his homie, Beneil Dariush, who is a top lightweight contender and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. Beneil gives insight into how he uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to be effective in MMA and how Sambo can be just as or more effective. Their answers will surprise you!

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the show!

#1: Tim Kennedy – To Serve and Protect

#1: Tim Kennedy – To Serve and Protect

“A Fight is a Fight, it doesn’t matter what tools you have, all that matters is how efficient your chassis is.” – Tim Kennedy

My guest this episode is Tim Kennedy, a Special Forces Sniper, a Range Qualified Green Beret, a former UFC & Strike Force Fighter, and the President of Sheep Dog Response.  He is one of the few fighters to simultaneously serve in the United States Army while also fighting professionally and is the recipient of the Army’s Bronze Star Medal.  Mr. Kennedy is the founder of the Acton Academy, which is a K-12 Charter school.  He is also active as a television host, producer, and entrepreneur.

This episode is filled with leadership, mindset, and fighting wisdom from Tim Kennedy’s first-hand experience in life and death situations and his experience competing in Mixed Martial Arts.  My Key takeaway is that “Awareness, Assessment, Action, and Analysis” are essential skills to success on the battlefield, in the boardroom, and in the cage.  In this episode we talk about how important it is to build a physical and mental chassis that can adapt and change in chaos.  We dive deep into dealing with Fear and understanding the value of time.  Time is all we have, it is constantly running out, and we can never get it back.  So live a life with intention, discipline, and focus so that we can be ready to serve and protect when called upon.

    ep#93: Clinton Terry (Blind Grappler)

    ep#93: Clinton Terry (Blind Grappler)

Clinton Terry is a blind Gold Medal Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion who is sponsored by Hyperfly NZ. When Clinton was 2 he lost his sight & went blind. His mother didn't treat him any differently from his brothers, he was forced to live & not be cuddled. He found wrestling at the age of 19. He lost his first 40 matches without scorring a point ‼️ many would have given up, possibly after the first match. Not a real man like Clinton. He went on to become NZ National champion, he then moved on to BJJ where he became world champion in Brazilian JiuJitsu‼️ Most recently he headlined a COMBAT Jiu-Jitsu event in Auckland 🇳🇿 (Jiu-Jitsu with striking) and won that event. Clinton has an incredible story which we break down in this episode.

    IGYE - 10 - Braulio Estima

On today's episode I'm joined in studio by world-renowned martial artist, Braulio Estima.

Braulio is a 5-stripe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and is known throughout the BJJ world as one of the best to have ever competed, but also, one of the best coaches to ever step on the mats.

He teaches seminars all over the world, as well as training within his adopted hometown of Birmingham. He finds himself often in Jersey and I nabbed him for a chat inbetween training sessions during his last visit to the island.

This chat frames his understanding of teaching around his personal and athletic development within professional martial arts. This is a conversation for people curious in the idea of working with people struggling with motivation, how to persevere, why goal setting is important but crucially why the journey is more important than the destination.

Work on Yourself Every Day of Your Life | Duztin Watson, Owner of The RiP Group

Duztin Watson’s military career has influenced his leadership style and mindset, but it’s not the only thing that defines him. In our conversation, he was clear to point out that his military experience is just one part of his lifelong journey, which has been characterized by many ups and downs along the way. The series of sales and business development roles he held after reacclimating to civilian life were instrumental to developing the confidence and skills he needed to start and build his own company.

Duztin knew that the security industry, which is defined by protecting human life and valuable property, was something that aligned with his interests and core beliefs. In 2012, he launched The RiP Group to provide the type of high-quality, high-touch security and related services that he believed was lacking in the marketplace. From the outset, Duztin has focused on building a team where integrity, accountability, professionalism, safety, and constant training lie at the heart of his company’s culture.

Felipe Pena - The Evolution from Preguiça to Everyday Porrada

Felipe Pena - The Evolution from Preguiça to Everyday Porrada

Felipe Pena is one of the most accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt competitors in the world. Felipe’s nickname “Preguiça”, which is Portuguese for lazy or sloth, was given to him by one his early coaches “Draculino” when he was a teenager. Despite being overweight when he first started jiu-jitsu, Felipe became motivated to train harder and eventually realize his dream of becoming a world-class professional athlete. Now, Preguiça represents the Gracie Barra academy and is widely regarded as one of the top jiu-jitsu competitors of his generation. He has solidified this status by becoming the 2017 ADCC Absolute Champion,an  IBJJF No Gi champion, as well as winning the IBJJF World Championships in both 2018 and 2019.

We talk about how Felipe transformed his innate love of competition into the motivation that fuelled his rapid growth in the art of jiu-jitsu. We explore the early influences on his game and the moment he realised that he had a future as a professional athlete. We also discuss the evolution of his incredible work ethic, a far cry from the Preguiça of his youth, as well as his amazing training camp wars with fellow BJJ champions Marcus Almeida “Buchecha”, Romulo Barral and Leandro Lo. Finally, we look at what the future holds for Felipe, from unaccomplished goals, to super-fights as well as life after competition.

Octavio Couto “Ratinho” - The Art of Dynamic Meditation

Professor Octavio Couto, more affectionately known as “Ratinho”, is a 6th degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Romero Cavalcanti, and one of the most innovative and sought-after coaches in the world. Originally competing with Alliance, he was one of seven black belts to form Team Brasa in 2002. A true scholar of the world, Professor Ratinho speaks four languages, and has used his expertise in such projects as incorporating the principles of BJJ into the self-defense program for the Italian Carabinieri Police force. He co-founded and developed the curriculum and operations at AKXE BJJ, the largest academy of Rio de Janeiro, and now travels the world, spreading the gentle art through his seminars.

We talk about his unique philosophies and teaching methods with respect to BJJ, incorporating a deep understanding of body mechanics, movement and connection. We explore his concept of jiu-jitsu as a highly developed form of Dynamic Meditation and all the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that entails. Professor Ratinho also details some of the amazing experiences he has amassed along his journey in coaching both jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts, including stories about his time coaching Fabricio Werdum for some of the sports biggest and most consequential fights.
