Foot Health and Pelvic Health with Natalie Headdings

Natalie Headdings, known as Trainer Natalie on social media, is a prenatal & postnatal exercise specialist, natural movement educator, and host of The Resource Doula Podcast. Through her own journey with movement and background in clinical exercise physiology, Natalie has developed a method for restoring natural movement, improving pelvic floor symptoms, and empowering people to move more freely.

She aims to make movement more fun and accessible for everyone, especially parents who are busy and who have realized there's a whole bunch of stuff they didn't tell you about...like your pelvic floor, and how to correctly train your core, what to do if you're leaking when you lift or laugh, and how to recover well from pregnancy and birth.

Her history in teaching Pilates and doula work led her to learn that there's so much we can do preventatively and restoratively through exercise for things like pelvic pain, diastasis recti, incontinence, and other common aches and pains that come with the demanding job of motherhood. Through The Resource Doula Podcast and in-person events, she provides information to help families make more informed choices about their health and wellbeing throughout pregnancy and beyond.

Natalie lives in Palmer, Alaska with her husband Micah, and when she's not podcasting or teaching, you can be sure to find her wearing minimal shoes and probably talking about sourdough and birth options.

Episode 73 - From Bunions to Ball Games: Foot Health, Toxic Relationships, and Cultural Interplay

Ever struggled with foot health or, even worse, been trapped in the toxic hold of a narcissist? Well, you've got company. In this lively episode, we journey from the cultural charms of Central America, spotlighting Honduras and its soccer team, to the more personal and peculiar genetic foot condition of our guest, Vampiro's grandfather. We uncover the captivating Spanish TV show that has Vampiro's parents hooked, and take a moment to appreciate the unique soccer nicknames that resonate with nations like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Toes to toxic relationships, we've got it all covered! We're pulling back the curtain on the troublesome issues of bunions, discoloration, and toenail fungus that are more common than you'd expect. We shed light on the pitfalls of wearing ill-fitting shoes and their surprising implications. But it's not all foot talk, as we confront the challenging terrain of narcissistic personality disorder, drawing on Vampiro's own experiences with a manipulative woman. We guide you through the recognition and understanding of such toxic behaviors, arming you with the knowledge to navigate and extricate yourself from such relationships.

Finally, we plunge into the thrilling world of sports. Hear us discuss legendary figures from baseball and basketball, and join in on our heated debate over who's the most feared man in the world. Is it Charles Oakley, George Foreman, or Mike Tyson? We also touch on Rick's plans to visit Poland and the impressive feats of free solo climber, Alex Hall. As we wind up, we extend a heartfelt invitation to those who share Vampiro's foot condition to get in touch. This episode promises a rich blend of cultural insights, health tips, and sports debates. What do FEET have to do with Midlife?

What do FEET have to do with Midlife?

Our feet are our foundation; how do you treat yours??

This week we're tackling the not-so-sexy subject of feet. We get pedicures; we play footsie; some of us love a good foot massage. But what are our feet telling us?

We demand a lot from our feet. They provide us with a mode of transportation, keep us mobile and provide balance. Some of us suffer from foot maladies such as bunions, calluses or hammer toes.

In this episode we talk about the importance of caring for your foundation and we give you some tips for caring for your feet beyond a pedicure. We talk about balance (and the importance of the big toe) and we give you tips on footwear and grounding.

There are tons of helpful hints in here. We hope you find something useful in this episode. As always, we would really appreciate a review, so that we can share more info with more people! Please share this episode and subscribe!

Bunions! Toenails! Turf toe! LUNA Machines! And... Vick's VapoRub?

Are your dogs barkin'? Everyone can relate to some type of foot pain or discomfort whether it's as simple as an ingrown toenail or something more complicated like plantar fasciitis. (Just what is that anyway?) Join us for a conversation with Dr. Nicole Bauerly, foot specialist and podiatric surgeon from Hennepin Healthcare, where we cover all things feet better than your warmest pair of socks.  Hear about stress fractures, diabetic foot sores, and that favorite pair of snazzy running shoes you have -- well you might have to get rid of those! Plus we tackle a few bonus questions from our listeners at the end of the show.

Here's the link to LUNA that I promised during our conversation together.

The Feet. Ugh, love ‘em or hate ‘em, we’re stuck with them. Many people experience foot pain and may not know what to do about it, but Joe Pilates understood what to do, in fact, he invented two small devices to help correct the feet. The foot corrector and the Toe exerciser or sometimes referred to as the Toe Gizmo, were designed to strengthen and make supple the very foundation of our skeleton.

I’ve asked our guest today, Karen Moran, a physical therapist to explain from her perspective how the feet play a major role in developing and maintaining a healthy functioning body. Karen is the founder and CEO of Fusion Arts Physical Therapy in Los Angeles, CA., where she specializes in Dance Medicine. Theaters such as the Pantages, the Ahmanson, Mark Taper, and various other theaters in the Los Angeles area have employed her to keep their performers healthy. In addition, Karen has treated professional dancers in companies such as Los Angeles Dance Project, Los Angeles Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance.
