Episode #57 - Wants and Needs

One of the things I have been navigating lately is the difference between wants and needs, and what I am allowed to ask for in my life and in relationship, versus what I should be giving myself. Listen to this latest episode of The Living Through Heart podcast for my current take on all of this.ย

Episode #55 - How to Determine Compatibility within Relationship

Episode #55 - How to Determine Compatibility within Relationship

We go to school and learn things like how to add up, ancient history, and geography. And yet we are never taught just how to BE. We are asked the question, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' but are never asked, 'Who are you now? What do you want? What is important to you? What does living in your authentic truth look like for you?'

Is it any wonder that we end up in a relationship that ultimately doesn't serve us, when we have no idea of what we truly want, or who we truly are? In this week's episode, I talk about compatibility within a relationship, how to work out what you want, what you need, and how to know when it's game over.

    85. The Gifts of Tension: Contemplating The Week of 07.17.23

Where can our personal desires naturally and spontaneously be met with receptivity and grace by the social ecosystems of our lives? Where is more work needed to prime these ecosystems for deeper receptivity? Where will we be met with resistance and where might we perceive or receive othersโ€™ disdain? What's our relationship with that external and internal tension?

In this offering, I'm sharing my personal notes and contemplations about the week ahead. Combining astrology, tarot, the Akashic & Cosmic Body perspectives, and guidance from my sacred ancestors, healing guides and my own spirit, I hope these messages will serve you as you walk your path.

While this contemplation was inspired by the energy and the astrology of the week of 07.17.23, I also offer the possibility that the message here is relevant for you - even if you found the episode sometime in the future.ย

This week, the lunar nodes shift into Aries-Libra after having spent the last couple years (give and take) in Taurus-Scorpio. We have the New Moon in Cancer, the Sun will enter Leo, and Venus will begin its retrograde period in Leo.ย

    Needs Vs Wants in Marriage

    Needs Vs Wants in Marriage

096ย  In the world of relationship improvement, โ€œneedsโ€ gets used a whole lot! If you are using it in your own mind or saying it to your partner a lot, it makes sense...you were taught to.

But often when we say needs what we are really talking about is a want. We get these two terms mixed upโ€“and itโ€™s not good for our own emotional well-being, or our marriage, leading to all sorts of power struggles, feelings of resentment, disappointment, and helplessness to make things good between you.

ย In fact, having confusion about the differenceโ€“and where our needs and wants get metโ€“ can be the downfall of many relationships that would otherwise thrive.ย

So today we are going to bust some of this confusion apart and get you some real clarity about the difference between wants and needs in your marriage.ย

We will also dive into where your true power is to get your emotional needs metโ€“and some of the specific differences you might,ย  as a highly sensitive women,ย  have to addressย  around thisโ€“so you can have agency over your experience in your relationshipโ€“and a better marriage for the rest of your life!

What I share today may challenge what youโ€™ve been taught and believed up until now, but it will change everything in your marriage for the better.ย

If you want a light, loving, connected marriage, where you actually enjoy your partner and feel consistently secure and fulfilled , then this is essential listening for you.ย

Truth & Transformation is an unpolished raw podcast about unearthing the crap that holds us back. Aimed at women who want it all and wanna feel damn good about themselves. We will talk openly about struggles, the highs and lows of life, sex, family, relationships, emotions, healing, mindset, dreams, spirituality, vulnerability, money, bisexuality and so much more - in fact, nothing is really off the table. If it's holding you back from the life you want we will talk about it. If you wanna feel damn good we need to talk about the real stuff so that's what we are doing here. I believe when we love ourselves our life really transforms in the most beautiful ways and when we don't love ourselves we don't feel enough or fulfilled. This is a podcast to bridge the gap. It's a podcast about feeling good about yourself, living life in your truth, on your terms.

Meeting Your Emotional Needs with Kim Keane

Meeting Your Emotional Needs with Kim Keane

Todayโ€™s episode dives deep into some things we really struggle with as moms. We talk about how we wrap our identity in what we do instead of who we are. We talk about meeting the needs of everyone else instead of our own emotional needs. And we talk about how the stories we tell ourselves create our reality, real or not.ย

Our guest today, Kim Keane, is a certified life coach, podcaster, speaker, and the founder of Girl Talk, a program for elementary and middle school girls focusing on empowerment and leadership skills.

Kim is a knowledgeable resource for moms since she understands firsthand the struggles and challenges that moms face as she has navigated them as a working mom and a stay-at-home-mom. She wants moms to know they are not alone, they are powerful beyond measure, and they are worthy.ย

    Valentine's Day, Kids, and Sexuality

    Valentine's Day, Kids, and Sexuality

Itโ€™s Valentines Day โ€“ a day when many of us go out of our way to say โ€œI love youโ€ to those who are special to us. Parents, do you know that expressing love and paying attention to your children and teens actually helps them when it comes to their own sexuality? Research has shown that teens will often use sex as a means to express and satisfy emotional and interpersonal needs that have little or nothing to do with sex. Sexual activity becomes a coping mechanism to deal with the absence of love and affection at home. One recent study of ninth graders sought to discover why young teens want or would want to engage in sexual intercourse. Intimacy was the number one reason given, with respondents understanding intimacy as something that would make them โ€œfeel closeโ€ or โ€œfeel loved.โ€ Our kids learn about what it means to love by watching their parents love each other. And, we need to shower our kids with the kind of grace-filled love and commitment shown to us by Jesus Christ.

    Encore: Feed The Need

    Encore: Feed The Need
Positive social interactions and healthy exchanges of attention are basic human needs, analogous to other basic needs like food consumption or sleep. It is fair therefore to assume, that the absence of positive social interaction, at whatever age, may create a want, or โ€˜cravingโ€™, that motivates behaviour to repair what is lacking. Cues associated with positive social interaction, for example smiling faces, playtime, credible conversation, activate neural reward systems. In this episode Anne Dobson, an experienced teacher and behaviour management therapist and coach, from New South Wales in Australia, introduces us to her evidence based effective behaviour management programmes, which support parents, carers and educators in understanding childrenโ€™s behaviour to this end. Effective Behaviour Management is all about communication. We often have unspoken or unwritten expectations about behaviour that we donโ€™t always communicate clearly. Clear communication, ongoing support and regular feedback make all the difference when it comes to finding effective solutions for managing behaviours of concern. In this interview Anne Dobson articulately and eloquently explains how we can Feed that Need for attention in our children, even from the prospective of a busy parent or within a busy classroom. Anneโ€™s Covid-inspired courses aswell as her well-established Great Expectations and other courses are supported by online webinars and post-attendance groups and meetings. Anneโ€™s courses help parents, carers and educators to engage with the children in their care with a greater sense of certainty and confidence. Support through understanding!

Habit Stacker: Using Setbacks For Success

    We're told failure is a positive thing.ย
But if you're like me and you've been rewarded for achievement through life, there's a pretty potent fear of failure.

Being told that failure is important doesn't help to diminish that fear a whole lot. There is a way out however, through these five simple questions I outline in this Habit Stacker episode.
